Chapter 33
The Light and The Choice
Flint returned the next morning with Jace and Sebastion, blood covering his hands and his face full of fear. Jace had not spoken a word since they brought him back. His once vibrant spirit had dulled after whatever Gia had put him through. Arianna was beyond pissed that a mother could kidnap her child and use him as bait. The one bright point of it all that had happened was that Gia was dead.
Flint brought her back with them so that Gia’s mother could bury her. Arianna didn’t like the idea that they brought Gia back with them, but she understood why they did. All of her attention was now focused on her brother. Sebastion was in the hospital with a bullet wound to his abdomen. He wasn’t healing like he normally would. They were running blood tests to find out why. The bullet they removed was silver. That bitch had wanted to kill him and may still succeed if the doctors couldn’t find out what else was in his system.
They could flush the silver poisoning out of his system with a blood transfusion, which Arianna was gladly supplying the blood for him. That would help him heal if they could pinpoint what the other drug was. Flint had a guess, but the doctors wanted to confirm it. Flint guessed it was wolfsbane. The combination of silver and wolfsbane could kill Sebastion if they didn’t treat him soon. He was lucky that she hadn’t shot him in the heart. That would have killed him before they could have made it to a doctor.
Arianna did not know what she would do if her brother died. She wasn’t prepared to be the Alpha of their pack. The thought of even doing that without him brought her to tears. Flynn stayed with her as she sat by Sebastion’s bedside. Her mate was her rock while her brother fought for his life. In a tiny part of her mind, she thought of Rayne. Their mate bond was weak, but it was still there. Would Rayne feel the pain that Sebastion was in? Would Rayne die if he did?
Arianna knew that not all mates succumbed to death when their other half died. With their bond as weak as it was, Rayne would probably survive his death. A death that Arianna prayed to the Moon Goddess wouldn’t happen. Sebastion had so much to live for. So much that he wanted to accomplish. More that he wanted to atone for
Please Moon Goddess spare his life.
Please let him live for Jace.
The steady beeping of the monitors let her know that Sebastion’s heart was still beating, but he was getting weaker by the hour. His skin had taken on an ashen tone. The dark circles under his eyes stood out against his pale skin. Arianna’s heart lurched when he suddenly convulsed, the monitor sending alarms throughout the room.
Two of the doctors rushed into the room, followed by several nurses. They pulled Arianna from the room so that the doctors could work to stabilize Sebastion. Everything faded down to what was happening in that room. Voices yelling for things that made no sense to Arianna. Nurses were rushing in and out of the room to fetch medicine.
Then her heart broke as she heard the monitor flatline. Sebastian’s heart stopped. Arianna collapsed back against Flynn as she heard the doctors call for the crash cart. All she could do was repeat her prayer to the Moon Goddess over and over as they did their best to bring him back.
Please Moon Goddess spare his life.

Everything around him was silent as he stood on a hill overlooking the large valley that held his pack’s home. His vision seemed cloudy at first before he noticed how everything around him was pale, like he was looking through fog. That was when he heard the soft ethereal music coming from behind him. Looking back, he notices a small log cabin set in a circle of larger Redwood trees.
The cabin itself was surrounded by a luminescent light that seemed to swirl around him as he started walking towards it. The ground as he walked glowed with the same light, making each step he took seemed like a beacon leading him to what or whoever was at the end of the path. The feeling of dread Sebastion felt as he looked out of the valley dissipated with every step he took towards the cabin.
As Sebastion reached the cabin, the light surrounding it exploded. Then he was standing in a small room with the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Her hair was the most vibrant white, similar to the bright light of a full moon. Her eyes were a luminescent blue that seemed to look right into his soul. The dress she wore was a peplos from ancient Greece. The clasp of the belt around her waist was a crescent moon,
The realization of who this woman was, hit him like a ton of bricks. Selene, the creator of all the moon’s creatures, the Moon Goddess. Why had she brought him here? What was going on that the Moon Goddess would visit him? Sebastion’s eyes went wide as the events of his confrontation with Gia came back to his mind.
The Light and The Choice
“You are here because you died, Sebastion,” Selene’s voice was soothing yet firm
“I had to kill her,” Sebastion pleaded with his eyes for Selene’s forgiveness.
“Maybe, but that choice was yours. You died, but I have brought you here to give you a choice.”
“What? I was not a good man. settled on her.
- I have been a terrible father, a terrible leader, and I was a horrible mate.” His eyes looked all over the
over the room, then finally
“All of those are true, but I have seen a change in you. One that I think could be good for all of those you love.”
“What do you want of me?” Sebastion asked with fear etched into his voice.
Selene tilted her head as she studied him for a moment, “Before I get to that, tell me what you see in your future if I send you back?”
“Watching my son grow. into the that he tells me he wants to be, Running my pack with my sister, who has been my best friend since birth. Finding Rayne so I can make amends for walking away from her five years ago when she needed someone to defend her from that monster that called himself her Alpha.” He stated firmly, without hesitation.
“That monster used to be an honorable man that fell into the dark pit of grief when his mate Kara died giving birth to their third child.”
“That does not excuse his abuse of a child under his protection,” Sebastion growled.
“That is very true. He is no longer a dark shadow on Rayne’s life.”
Sebastion frown at hearing this news, “He is dead? How?”
“Rayne had made many allies in this world, one of those helped her, earning him a spot in my sites ”
“Monror,” Sebastion remembered the leader of the rogue pack he ran into while in Bodega Bay.
“Yes, :
and I will watch to see what he does from there on, but he is not your problem now”
“What do you want from me?” Sebastion looked at her as the frustration built.
“I paired you with Rayne because neither of you wanted a mate. I had hoped that the two of you could be a powerful pair. Two wolves who didn’t want mates. It seemed fitting. Five years ago you chose Gia over your true mate. Rayne has given her heart to Parker, a man who has supported her in all things.”
“That shifter has his mate, why can’t he leave mine alone?” Sebastion yelled,
“A mate you never wanted and only want now because of what Gia did to you. Is that fair to Rayne?”
Sebastion looked away from Selene as she spoke the same thoughts he had recently, Was that really why he was now refusing to accept Rayne’s rejection? Did he only want her now because the one woman he had loved turned out to be a greedy whore?
“Parker is a generous man. He loves Rayne for who she is, not because of a mate bond, but for who she truly is. This is very special.”
“He has a mate out th
there somewhere, doesn’t he? Why does he have to take her from me?” Sebastion frowned at Selene.
“I believe Rayne took herself from you, not Parker. She chose him freely, despite the mate bond the two of you share.”
“50! She is my mate, not his,” Sebastion could feel Aries trying to soothe him, but the frustration at being denied something that was created for him was getting the better of him.
Selene sighed as he struggled for control, waiting for him to calm his selfish indignation. “The answer to your question about Parker’s matei he is Rayne’s mate too. He
le was always intended to be her mate. I gave her two to balance the scales after you turned your back on her. He found her sooner than I planned.
is simple,
Sebastion looks at Selene in shock.
Would you rather continue being selfish and risk losing everything? Or will you accept the choice before
“What choice is that?” Sebastion asked after he admitted to himself that his selfishness to a mate he never wanted was wrong.
“Let Allow her to live her life with the man she loves. Go Back to your life, raise your son, get your second chance.”
me go.
Back to wander the world with no memory of who or what you are. You will lose your wolf. Live a human life. You can find love and start Inowledge that this life ever existed”
I will lose either way I chose Schastion frowned at Selene.
Both cheners will be filled with what you would make of them. The choice is your
yours, Sebastion.”
