Kade’s eyes seethed of rage as he watched the news on the TV. The gist of it was that klade cars have been recording huge losses since Klyde was left in charge. Their sales dropped so low that it gave their father a heart attack and he’s currently being hospitalised.

” Everything I worked for… he just let it become trash,” he said switching off the TV. He ran his hands through his hair and seemed so deep in thought that I was certain that if I left he wouldn’t notice. Besides I really needed to use the toilet, so I left.

I had my bath right after using the toilet and I started wondering if I should go to Kade in the sitting room and if I do, what would I say to him. I thought against going to meet him in the sitting room because he never really liked his father so… he wouldn’t care if I say anything to comfort him. 

I lay down in my bed and slept but I didn’t sleep for long when Derrick came running into my room. 

” Mom!” he yelled and I sprang up from my bed and gripped him, wondering if someone attacked him and his siblings.

” What is it? Are your siblings okay?” I asked, turning on the nightstand lamp so I could see his face. 

” I had a nightmare” he said as he buried his face in my hair and sobbed. 

” About what?” I asked, stroking his hair to comfort him.

” it was about you and Dad, I was so terrified –” 

” Derrick? I heard his scream, are you okay Derrick.” Kade said, rushing into the room and turning on the switch so he could see me. 

” He had a nightmare,” I said and Derrick ran out of my grip to hug his father.

” Dad, you’re alive.” He said as Kade lifted him up without any struggle and stroked his hair.

” Of course I’m alive, why would you say that?” 

” I had a nightmare that you and Mom… died and we were all alone.” He whispered the last part and I could tell how much he must’ve been feeling sad and terrified. He must’ve been struggling to wake up from that dream the second it started but he couldn’t, what torture. 

I got up and wrapped my arms around him, ” Your dad and I will never ever leave you – I promise.” I said and took the opportunity to kiss him on his forehead when he turned to look at me.

” Yes Derrick, we’ll always be here for you and your siblings.” Kade said and also kissed him on the forehead. 

” do you want to sleep with your mom?” he asked and Derrick nodded. 

Kade placed Derrick on the bed and I lay next to him, covering him up from his stomach down so he would feel warm. 

” I don’t like being covered up,” he said, coming out of the sheets and spreading them on me.

” I like the cold.” He said and I realized that the room was suddenly cooler, I looked at Kade but he was busy increasing the intensity of the AC. 

” how’s the temperature now?” Kade asked. Derrick gave him a thumbs up and they both smiled. Like father like son I guess. 

Kade sat beside Derrick and Derrick scooted close to me and lay his head near my chest as Kade said, ” you don’t do bedtime stories right?” 

” Those are lame…” Derrick said sounding sleepy already. 

I watched as Kade smiled and stroked his hair. He may not have ever thought that the children were his but the way he handled it naturedly and showed them so much love was just impressive to me. 

The look in his eyes when Derrick started to breathe deeply as he slept was one of a proud father. At that moment, I knew that I was down bad for Kade, I really developed feelings for him faster than anyone in my life. 

” good night Derrick, good night Viola” he said, kissing Derrick on his forehead and also me but he kissed me softly on the lips. 

Okay, what was his deal? What happened to staying away from me? As if reading my mind he sighed and said, ” today is an exception.” 

I could’ve melted right there and then with the way Kade was staring at me intensely. Elizabeth was right, I could see the emotions in his eyes as he looked at me. He cleared his throat and stood up to leave but Derrick groaned and held unto his thumb. 

I realized just how big Kade’s hands were in comparison to Derrick’s and it was so adorable. His blue eyes flashed open as he looked at his father and said, ” Dad, could you sleep with me and Mom tonight?” 

Kade and I looked at each other and he sighed and motioned for me to scoot over which I did. The three  of us lay on the bed with Derrick in between us, sleeping soundly. I was very happy that we felt like a family and I hoped that in a few years we wouldn’t turn out to be like Kade’s family. 

I slept the most peaceful that night and when I woke up the next morning, Derrick was still asleep. I watched him sleep with a slight smile on his face and laughed when he started to talk in his sleep.

” what do you mean? All the girls like me…I’m real popular.” He said at one point and I laughed.

”  Beautiful,” Kade said and I smiled. I knew he was watching me watch Derrick sleep but I was suddenly so flushed and shy to even look Kade in the eye. What did I do to deserve a man like him? This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.

” Thanks…I guess.” I said simply but he lifted up my chin and I took in all of his handsomeness that morning and swooned making him laugh. He suddenly seemed so boyish again and I wondered where that angry, stiff and intimidating man went to. 

” I guess I’m more myself when the children are here” he said again as if he read my mind.

” How do you know what I’m thinking?!” 

” Trust me I don’t have super powers, your face is just super easy to read.” 

” Whatever,” I said and then I realized something, he looked different. 

” Your eyes…they’re almost green but…still blue. You have hazel eyes?!” I said and close my mouth because I almost woke up Derrick.

” be careful, you’ll wake our son up.” He said with a smile and I saw his dimples on both cheeks. He must’ve smiled too hard when he said our son.

” our son? I… like the sound of that.” I said and he fiddled with my fingers. 

” of course you do,”

” Why did I never know about your eyes?” 

” Umm, I always hid it with contacts. I’m short-sighted and I think our son Derrick is too.”

I stared at his eyes, they were so beautiful, why would he hide it – right contacts.

” Can you even see me?” I asked and he chuckled. 

” I’m not that bad Viola…you’re so mean.”  He said, and I laughed at his pout after.

” how are you so soft one minute and then cold the other, you confuse me.” I said and saw his smile fade. 

” I don’t mean to be that way, I… just…I’m sorry.” He said, it was as if his contacts hid his expression a lot. This time, I could see he was genuinely sorry.

” look, I know we can’t umm…” 

“- yeah I know.” I cut in.

” but I still want us to be closer for the sake of our children.” He said and my heart lurched a little. I thought he was going to confess his feelings for me, what a clown I was I guess.

” Why? What’s funny?” 

” I was laughing? I didn’t know. Sorry,” I said, feeling flustered that he caught me smiling like a fool for him.

” Anyway, I’ve got work to do so … later.” He said getting up, all of a sudden he crouched, placing his hands around my waist and carefully avoiding Derrick as he kissed me again. I parted my lips and he slid his tongue in my mouth, making me moan a little before abruptly ending the kiss. 

” Ewww!!” Derrick said and we laughed and stared at him as he rubbed his eyes while still making a disgusted face. 

” Have you two even brushed today?” he pestered and Kade rolled his eyes.

” Good morning to you too Derrick,” he said and Derrick scoffed.

” I’m not falling for that but good morning Dad and Mom, however, I’m starting to think that it was a bad idea for me to ask you two to sleep with me. Woke up to the sight of more horror!” he said exaggerating a shudder as he got to to leave the room but when he opened the door, he was face to face with Dani and Damien who were clutching their stuffed animals while dressed in their pajamas. They were so cute! 

” You slept with Dad and Mom?!” Dani asked in horror and Derrick made a run for it while the two of them chased him. 

Kade smiled at me and then said,” I’m sorry about that whole Alvarez issue I was being immature and just jealous.” 

With that he left my room and Elizabeth entered shortly after, sitting on the bed as she asked with wide eyes, ” what happened here last night?”
