Elliott's POV

By the time I fully accepted the reality of Melissa's absence, two weeks had passed.

To show my resolve to everyone, I temporarily sent Courteney back to her father's territory.

Aaron had thrown multiple fits over this, crying and complaining to me. He even confided that since Courteney's pregnancy, her love for him had noticeably faded. Unable to do much else, I hired a nanny from the community to take care of his daily needs.

I wondered how Melissa was living now.

Could the Dark Alpha be torturing her?

"Can you consider the will of the pack for once? We've all released our Lunas. You should too. If your mark angers Agrigent, we might all pay the price."

The Special Mission Bureau had already sent countless people to repeat the same

nonsense.

Even if I started training warriors now, I doubted we could fend off the Dark Alpha.

With the North and South in conflict, Sebastian Agrigent had become the Wolf King of the North, ruling from the Northern territories.

Although we in the South had the Special Mission Bureau mediating on our behalf, we barely survived through tribute and taxes.

A foolish idea popped into my mind: I should send letters to both Sebastian and Melissa.

If submitting could bring back my beloved, I would gladly do so.

I only told Sawn about this, and he thought I had lost my mind.

"You're going to abandon us? Have you forgotten about those soldiers who died for the region? Melissa's departure brought us such a rare peace; if she had been selfish that day, it should have been you who died. Don't be foolish. She's so intelligent-that's why both and Atrias fell in love with her."

Despite his words, I remained unmoved, prompting Sawn to continue comforting me.

"Atrias has sent many to investigate her situation, but all have returned empty-handed. Elliott, face your reality! We can't compete with those from the North!"

"Melissa is my wife; it's not his place to intervene."

So many men coveted my beloved, and just hearing about it made me want to roar.

Things were already chaotic at home.

Once Sawn left, Aaron, like a little tail, trailed behind me, tugging at my shirt, his voice a whisper.

"Daddy, is Mommy going to leave you? Does she really not want us anymore?"

I looked at his innocent face, unsure how to answer.

"I don't want to stay here. Can we go back to the hillside villa? Aunt Courteney hasn't answered my calls lately. How could Mommy be so cruel?"

"Why are you back so early? If there's nothing wrong, go out and play with your

friends."

I didn't know how to address these issues. I wanted to wait until I had things sorted out before speaking to him.

"Where has Aunt Courteney gone again? I miss her."

At this, Aaron's earlier impatience transformed into a bright smile.

"As for Mommy, where could she go? Let's not allow her to destroy our family."

Seeing that I was ignoring him, Aaron pouted but still ran outside.

I sat on the floor with paper and pen in hand, my mind filled with thoughts of Melissa.

...Rest assured, I swear here and now, fate will never affect our relationship. You will always be the Luna I love. I love you, Melissa! I swear by my surname, Kauffman, that I will never break my promise until death."

If only I had told her the contents of the letter earlier, perhaps these misunderstandings wouldn't have arisen.

If I had the ability, I should have led the army to the Northern Territory.

But this act would be as futile as an egg striking a stone. At least I'm clear-headed enough to see that.

Since I can't launch a frontal assault, I'll find another way.

I need to express my love for Melissa without making Sebastian Agrigent think I'm provoking him. Writing this letter was incredibly difficult...

As an Alpha, I'm actually begging another man to forgive me and take

care of

my wife.

Suppressing my sorrow, I called for my Beta, Hades. He has always been my trusted aide.

Before the ambush, I stationed him in the plains.

That's the main reason why that area is the only one that hasn't fallen.

"Listen, Alpha! You shouldn't have sent Courteney back."

He knew this matter was critical for our entire region, so he was very anxious.

"I just sent her back to stay with her father for a while."

"Stop joking, Elliott! Something's wrong. with you, can't you see?"

Hades did his best to calm me down.

"I know."

Just thinking about Melissa's face made me feel like all my strength was drained.

"I know how great Melissa is. Because of her, the Dark Alpha spared us. We got a chance to breathe. I also honor her as Luna, and I support you in this matter."

"I can't understand why those guys started the war. If it weren't for what they did, I wouldn't be in this mess now."

Not understanding the full story of the ambush, I sighed.

"This whole thing is strange. It's said there were traitors from other regions who provoked. them."

Hades shared some information, but there was no solid evidence.

"Does the Special Mission Bureau know about this?"

I found it hard to believe. If that were the case, how could the authorities remain inactive?

Seeing him shake his head only deepened my confusion.

The Special Mission Bureau was adamant about protecting the interests of the southeastern, southwestern, and western factions. How could they possibly ignore the attack against them?

I had promptly handed over the captured enemy soldiers that day, yet the bureau had not extracted any useful information so far.

"The person

who was captured merely mentioned that they suddenly had the idea of bringing the south under their control. However, since this incident, our three-way alliance seems to have been significantly weakened. Notably, he mentioned the Alpha from the Nottingham Forest region... as if he were implying that he ordered those savages.

to attack us."

"Once again, from the cast! How can these fools not be more settled?"

Thinking about Atrias and the forest region, I wondered what they were scheming.

I sensed something was off, but I couldn't find any evidence or clues to their misconduct.

"Send these two letters to the north for me."

I handed the letters to him, feeling a headache coming on.

"What did you write?"

It was clear he didn't trust me and suspected that I might be declaring war on Sebastian Agrigent directly.

"I'm not as foolish as you think; you can rest easy... It's just my concerns and pleas for that guy to return my wife."

Hades was helpless, but he still did as I requested.

To my surprise, the next day, I suddenly received an invitation from the authorities.

As I stepped inside, I came face to face with Courteney's Alpha father.

"It's been a while, Kauffman! When are you going to marry Courteney? Your Melissa is no longer here, and the Meadow Wolf Pack needs a new Luna. Fate has already arranged it."

I turned to leave, but they clearly had no intention of letting me go.

"Do you wish to oppose the Jengge West Wolf Pack?"

Courteney sat silently beside her father..

"I told you before, Mr. Scarlet, I can never give Courteney the position of Luna. I have fulfilled all my obligations as fate demanded. She has become part of my family, but I cannot marry her; I have a wife. Our region only honors Melissa." As I spoke, I turned to look at him.

"Aside from this matter, I have completed everything that needed to be done. This is the last time I will discuss my personal life with you. I do not care what you all intend to do; even for Melissa, I will not oppose those dark fellows."
