Chapter 344
Chapter 344
After leaving the hospital, Freya drove back to the Kaufmann Residence.
As she drove, a small smile tugged at the corners of her lips, and her eyes sparkled with happiness.
The heavy burden on her heart seemed to have been lifted all at once, leaving her with a sense of relief and lightness in her chest.
The surgery had been successful.
Freya was in a good mood, and her heightened alertness had cased considerably.
A gray car followed her at a distance, tracking her until she reached the gates of the Kaufmann Residence.
The man in the car held professional photography equipment and discreetly captured moments of Freya getting out of her car and closing the door.
Back at home, Freya was immediately interrogated by Sylvia.
“You took your brother to the airport and didn’t return until now! Don’t you think you should explain yourself?” Sylvia’s tone was one of reprimand.
Freya looked helpless. “Mom, when I took my brother to the airport yesterday, Isabella also came over. She said she was bored at home and asked me to go over to her place to hang out.”
Sylvia stared at Freya suspiciously. “Really? Then, why didn’t you call me to let me know? Do you know how worried I was at home?”
Freya wore an apologetic expression and smiled awkwardly.
“Isabella and I were having such a good time yesterday, and we had a bit of wine during dinner. I completely forgot to call.”
“You drank again?!” Sylvia glared.
Freya hurriedly made her escape upstairs. “Mom, I’m an adult now. What’s wrong with having a little wine?”
Seeing Freya flee as if she had done something wrong, Sylvia finally let go of her doubts.
It seemed that Freya did stay at Isabella’s place last night.
In the following days, Freya would leave early in the morning and return late at night, always with a simple excuse.
She was now the director of the herbal sachets brand that was about to be established under the Monaghan Group. Though she held the title of director, she was essentially a brand partner.
With the brand’s establishment approaching, she needed to be present every day for preparations.
Sylvia had no suspicions at all.
Freya shuttled between the Kaufmann Residence and the hospital, and Braxton’s condition improved day by day.
With Ayden taking care of the Kaufmann Group, Freya felt at ease.
Ten days passed.
It was the weekend.
When Freya arrived at Braxton’s ward, she saw Matthew standing there, holding a bouquet in his hand. “Braxton, you didn’t tell me about such a big thing. You’re not a good friend!” Matthew complained.
He turned his head and saw Freya, immediately smiling brightly. “Frey, you’re here.”
Freya nodded and casually took the flowers from Matthew’s hand.
“Matthew, who comes to visit a patient and brings red roses? If people don’t know any better, they’d think you’re here to confess your feelings to my brother.”
As Freya spoke, she inserted the flowers into the vase on the bedside table.
Matthew raised an eyebrow. “I think red roses look the best.”
The three of them chatted for a while, and Isabella arrived with the breakfast she had brought, which she cooked.
Freya and Matthew watched as Isabella displayed the demeanor of a virtuous wife, serving the soup, feeding Braxton, and even wiping the corners of his mouth with a tissue.
“Wow, love is truly frightening,” Matthew commented. “It’s like Isabella has become a different person.”
Isabella, with sharp hearing, overheard Matthew’s comment and narrowed her eyes as she turned to him. “Matthew, are you looking for trouble?”
Matthew burst into laughter. “It seems like you haven’t changed at all. That’s reassuring.”
“Who cares if you’re reassured?” Braxton threw a pillow at him.
Freya watched the three of them joking and stood up, saying, “Brax, since you have someone here to accompany you, I’ll see Dr. Griffiths to check on your recent test results.”
“Okay.”
After leaving the recuperation building, Freya walked toward the administrative building.
The administrative building of Caltun General Hospital was far from the recuperation building, and Ethan’s office was on the top floor.
Freya went to check Braxton’s recent test results. All the values were within the normal range. The one-in- a-million risk had not materialized.
In the office, Ethan wore a pleased expression. “Everything looks fine. In three days, your brother can be discharged.” NôvelDrama.Org (C) content.
Freya also felt relieved. “That’s great. Thank you again, Dr. Grilliths.”
Ethan waved his hand and put the documents back in the drawer, smiling. “I should be the one thanking you, Professor Harlan. I never expected that the first surgery of this disease in Caltun would be one that I performed.”
For doctors, there was nothing more fulfilling than this.
Freya chatted with Ethan for a while with a smile before leaving the administrative building. The building was close to the main entrance of the hospital.
When she reached the ground floor, she noticed a crowd of people gathered at the hospital’s entrance.
“What’s going on? Are they protesting?” Freya was puzzled and took a few steps in that direction.
As she got closer, she realized that several vans parked at the hospital gate belonged to the media.
Among the crowd were both reporters and camera crews.
Freya frowned, feeling that something was not right, and turned to leave.
But it was too late. A reporter in the crowd had already spotted her and shouted, “Miss Kaufmann! Miss Kaufmann!”
Freya quickened her pace. Why are these reporters coming to the hospital to find me?
Braxton’s condition is kept confidential!
“Professor Harlan!” the reporter called out when Freya did not respond.
Freya’s expression changed instantly, but she did not stop walking.
“Miss Kaufman, we’ve already discovered that you are Professor Harlan! Would you be willing to grant us an interview?”
With a cold expression, Freya returned to Ethan’s office. Ethan’s expression grew serious, and he immediately instructed the security guards to drive away the reporters downstairs.
“How did your identity get exposed?” Ethan looked at Freya with concern. “The security downstairs. reported that, although the reporters are willing to leave the hospital entrance, they are still blocking the road half a street away.”
To exit Caltun General Hospital, one must pass through that particular intersection.
Freya’s face turned icy. “Dr. Griffiths, please wait a moment.”
She picked up her phone, and at that very moment, she received a message from Melissa,
Frey! You’ve been exposed!”
Freya clicked on the link Melissa had sent. On a well-known forum, there was a sensational post.
“The True Identity of Professor Harlan! Take a Look!
Freya opened it and found photos of her on the day she completed her brother’s surgery, left the hospital, and returned to the Kaufmann Residence.
The one who posted it was a journalist, while his wife worked in the medical field.
He obtained information about the upcoming new drug from his wife and also discovered that it was bring researched in Professor Harlan’s laboratory
Professor Harlan’s identity had always been mysterious, and the man quickly realized that he had stumbled upon a great career opportunity”
Using his wife’s professional connections, he obtained the contact number that Freya had used to communicate with the National Medical Products Administration.
Subsequently, he delved into the records to pinpoint the laboratory’s location, scrutinized surveillance footage, and utilized an array of investigatory techniques-all of which proved fruitful in his pursuit.
It was akin to online detective work!
