Chapter 1 The Girl Arranged by his Family
It had been years since Jessica Armstrong had been expelled by the Armstrong family. Now she was asked to come back home from the outland, because she had to fulfill a wedding contract in place of her half-sister.
Lorenzo Fletcher was a notorious man in Ameriart. He was terminally ill and had a brutal personality. Jessica’s stepmother didn’t want her own daughter to marry such a terrible man, so she asked Jessica to come back to replace her daughter.
Jessica’s stepmother had planned everything. She must have regarded Jessica as a fool.
On this day, Jessica sat in the waiting hall with her eyes shut. Suddenly, the gate of the waiting hall was flung open, which attracted her attention.
Bang!
Clang!
“Ah! Help! …”
As a flurry of shots rang out and the door was kicked open, the passengers, who were waiting in the hall, screamed in fear and scattered in all directions.
“Boss, that bastard isn’t here! He got away again!” a man with an eye patch growled through clenched teeth.
“He’s doomed! Look what I’ve found here!” The “boss” leered at Jessica, who sat not far away from him, rubbing his hands together.
Jessica never expected that such a disaster would happen to her. Now she was trapped in his waiting hall, her life in danger.
“Well well, what a beauty! How can I pretend not to have seen her?” The man with the eye patch swallowed, attracted by Jessica’s beauty.
“Please let me go. I don’t know anything. I promise I haven’t seen anything,” Jessica pleaded in a soft and sweet voice, putting on a terrified look, but meanwhile, she was sizing them up secretly.
The tough boss strode forward with his eyes fixed on Jessica’s face. She was wearing an exquisite nine-tailed fox half mask on her fair face, her eyes gleaming adorably.
“Don’t be afraid, girl. We aren’t bad guys. As long as you join us, we’ll guarantee you a good life.” The boss ran his greedy eyes over Jessica’s body without scruple.
“Please… Please don’t scare me. I’m a timid girl, and I’ll obey all your arrangements. Please don’t hurt me.” Blushing, Jessica covered her mouth with her hand, acting shy.
Usually, these gangsters played around with prostitutes, and it was the first time they had seen such an innocent and tender girl. They couldn’t hold themselves back anymore and came at her.
Just as a fat hand reached out to rip Jessica’s blouse off, the man felt a piercing pain in the center of his back. The moment he met Jessica’s eyes, he was intimidated by her sharp gaze. When he was about to strike a blow at her, he fell to the ground, unconscious.
Before the other men behind him could react, there came a few flashes of silver light. The next moment, those men slumped down, moaning.
Jessica brushed the dirt off her jacket in disgust and threw a glance at the tall figure who was walking elegantly into the waiting hall.
Grim-faced, the man entered the hall as if he was Satan coming out of Hell.
“Mr. Fletcher, we’re going to clean up this mess now,” a man in black said reverently.
However, the tall man waved his hand.
“You’ve seen something you shouldn’t have seen. What should I do with you?” The tall man rose to his feet gracefully, jerked Jessica in his arms and tilted her chin up with his slender finger to make her look into his eyes.
The tall man’s face must have been kissed by God. It was very easy for women to fall for him at the sight of him.
Jessica, nevertheless, wasn’t born yesterday. Naturally, she realized that the man before her was the most dangerous one.
“I’m Mrs. Fletcher. Mind your manners and let me go!” Jessica looked at the tall man with a scowl, smacking the man’s hand off her face.
Mrs. Fletcher?
The man’s lips curved into a faint smile. Could she be the girl his family had arranged for him?
“That’s all right. You didn’t know. It’s not too late for you to let me go now. After all, the Fletcher family isn’t some family you can mess up with. Be wise and don’t get yourself into trouble,” Jessica said in a stern voice as she saw the man show no sign of leaving.
Everyone in the country knew that the Fletcher family and the Armstrong family would be connected by marriage. The man in front of her seemed smart, and presumably, he wouldn’t get himself into trouble.
The girl standing before him was bold and resourceful. She looked young, but she stayed calm in danger, even if she was on her own. Now he liked her more as his wife.
“Mrs. Fletcher, I’m looking forward to seeing you again,” the man said meaningfully before he left without looking back.
…
The Armstrong residence was bustling with guests on the wedding day.
“You’re a jinx to the Armstrong family. You own mother died for you, and so did your grandfather and the other members of your mother’s family. They’re so unfortunate to have you! Do you think you’ll have a wonderful life as Mrs. Fletcher once you come back? You’ll lead a miserable life after you marry into the Fletcher family in place of me!”
Before Jessica went out of the gate, Bianca Armstrong, her half-sister, grabbed her arm and stared smugly at her.
“What are you talking about, bastard?” Jessica looked around at Bianca, who appeared arrogant and condescending.
“I’m talking about you, jinx!” Bianca retorted without thinking.
“Bastards are bastards, and they never know their place,” Jessica chuckled.
Some of the guests, who were close to the two girls, heard their conversation and couldn’t help but laugh.
Only then did Bianca realize that she had fallen into the trap Jessica had set for her, and that she had become the laughingstock of everyone now.
Jessica’s beautiful eyes looked even more mysterious and charming under her nine-tailed fox half mask. Thinking of it, Bianca got so jealous that she wished she could poke Jessica’s pretty eyes out.Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
