Chapter 68: “Lovely In-Laws”
“Thank you, Ted. Please inform my wife, Kourtney, that we have visitors,” Sebastian instructed smoothly, his voice a mask of composure.
The old butler bowed and swiftly made his way to deliver the message, leaving Sebastian to contemplate the chessboard of power and emotions that lay before him.
He strode out of his study, each step purposeful, his footsteps echoing off the polished marble floors, and then he stopped at the top of the grand staircase. From there, he could oversee the entrance and observe the Allens’ approach.
The door creaked open, and they came, one by one, in a straight queue, like sacrificial lambs entering the lion’s den.
Sebastian smirked, enjoying the view.
This was the Allens, his supposed in-laws-a once proud and formidable family, now shadows of their former selves.
His gaze lingered on them, calculating and detached. He observed the tension in their stance, the flicker of hope in their eyes as they shifted about, unsure of where to stand. Their steps were hesitant, and their eyes downcast, heads bowed in submission.
At this moment, the once mighty Allen looked so small and insignificant while Sebastian stood at the top of the grand staircase, exuding an air of supremacy, like a king, looking down at his powerless subjects. This was his domain, his territory, his kingdom, and they were nothing but trespassers in his world.
They walked forward and then stopped at the front of the staircase, looking up at him with a mixture of fear, resignation, and resentment. Each step they took seemed heavier than the last, burdened by the weight of their impending plea for mercy.
But Sebastian only sneered in his heart. He had no regrets about ruining their corporation at all. In truth, he was just getting started!
“It’s quite a long way up, isn’t it?” he mused to himself, a sardonic smile playing on his lips. “Just like their fall from grace.”
The tension in the room was detectable as the Allens stood before him, their fate hanging by a thread while Sebastian reveled in the power he held over them, relishing in their distress. He watched their expressions closely, enjoying the discomfort evident on their faces.
“What do I owe the pleasure of this unexpected visit from my…. “LOVELY IN-LAWS?” Sebastian said, smiling devilishly, his deep voice echoing in the vast hall, taunting his guests with false hope.
But they all knew he was being sarcastic. It was so glaring now that only Sebastian Woods, this psychotic beast of a Man, could be responsible for their downfall.
Grandma Florence, the Matriarch of the Allen family, stepped in front, her eyes meeting Sebastian’s icy stare. She wasted no time with pleasantries. She wasn’t there for a chit-chat, so she cut straight to the chase, her voice laced with urgency.
“Young master, please, we beg for your mercy. Our company, our livelihood, everything is at stake.”
“Ha!” Sebastian let out a dark chuckle.
He was at a loss for words at the sheer audacity.
He stood there, all tall, dashing, and imposing, his presence commanding the room. They were at his mercy now, and he would make sure they knew it.
Just as he was about to reply to the Old Woman’s plea for mercy, Kourtney arrived beside him at the head of the staircase, her eyes widening in shock and horror as she absorbed the scene unfolding below.
Her entire family gathered below, clustered together like a ball, their faces etched with worry and uncertainty.
Kourtney’s eyes roamed over the surprise visitors. Almost everybody was there.
Her father, Luke, her mother, Margaret, Grandma Florence, Uncle Eliot, Uncle Zachary, Uncle Edmond, Uncle Garrett, her lovely and kind Aunt Matilda, Aunt Betty, Aunt Wendy, her cousins, Diane, Jason, Fiona, Inez, Jessy, Phillip, Harry, Raina, Charis, even the spiteful and bitter Aunt Denise who’s always hated her guts, and then there was also Kathlyn, her “pure and precious” sister who looked like she had lost a ton of weight since she last saw her.
This was her whole extended family in their living room, her blood, and here they were, at the mercy of the man she had married.
As the ever the compassionate soul she was, Kourtney felt a fresh wave of guilt wash over her. She couldn’t bear to see her loved ones in distress like this, no matter what they had done to her.
She turned to Sebastian, searching for a rationale, but all she found was his smirk, a glint of malice in his eyes. She knew that look-it was the look of a predator toying with its prey.
“What… what’s happening?” Her voice was a mixture of confusion and anger, her hands clenched at her sides.
Sebastian’s smirk widened as he met her gaze, a silent challenge passing between them. Kourtney’s arrival added another layer of entertainment to the drama unfolding before him.
He looked down at her, the corners of his lips curling into a smile that sent shivers down her spine.
“They have come to beg for mercy, to atone for their sins. Or what does it look like?” Sebastian chuckled at the words.
His wicked smirk widened as he observed the realization dawning on her the realization that her family’s fate now rested in his hands.
Kourtney’s heart raced as she struggled with her emotions, and she cringed inwardly. She felt extremely bad knowing that the first time her relatives were visiting her new “marital” home was to beg her cruel, ruthless, erratic, and stony-hearted husband not to ruin their goddamn lives.
How pathetic!
She couldn’t stand by and watch them suffer and be humiliated by this man in such a despicable manner. It all seemed utterly heartbreaking.
She turned her eyes back to them and noticed the way they looked at her, their faces pleading for her help, for her intervention. And this only made Kourtney’s resolve strengthen. She couldn’t abandon them, not now, not ever!
Kourtney shook her head. “No”
And with a determined step forward, she walked down the staircase and approached her grandmother, who stood at the war front, her voice soft but firm, “Grandma, I’m sorry.”
Grandma Florence’s eyes immediately softened with understanding, a hand reaching out to caress Kourtney’s cheek as she approached.
“It isn’t your fault, honey,” she said, then turned her gaze towards Luke, her eyes piercing and filled with unspoken meaning.
Luke stepped forward unsteadily, his expression a mix of shame and apprehension. He knew all too well the weight of his mother’s gaze and the gravity of the situation they found themselves in.
Kourtney’s gaze then shifted to her father, Luke, who stood before her, his eyes filled with regret. He took another shaky step forward, swallowing hard before meeting his daughter’s eyes.
“Kourtney, I… I’m sorry for what I did. I had no right to lay a hand on you. Please forgive me,” Luke apologized.

“I shouldn’t have… I shouldn’t have raised my hand against you.”
