My Mute Wife

Chapter 94 You Must not Lay Hands on Him

Alan’s eyebrows jumped unexpectedly and his gaze sank.

The two men were separated by a sofa and coffee table, not too far apart.

The floor lamp was leaning against the sofa, the dim light swaying, shining on Lexie’s face.

This was the first time he had seen Lexie look like this, her ruddy eyes sunk with resentment, yet it seemed less because he had hit her and more like because of the mention of the Mitchell family.

He calmed down, giving a dismissive laugh, “You’re dreaming?”

[There are problems with Mitchell’s medicines, and several of the medicines they provide to their suppliers are fake.]

Alan was stunned.

How could she, an illegitimate daughter, know something that even Edith didn’t know?

[As long as you help me and let me work in Mitchell Pharmaceutical Group, I can get the evidence that Mitchell Pharmaceutical Group is making fake drugs].

After calming down, Lexie’s mind grew clearer.

For what she could not do by herself, she could trade with Alan for mutual benefit, treating Peter as an enemy. The enemy of the enemy could be a temporary friend.

Alan was silent for a long time, and then suddenly stood up holding the coffee table.

Lexie’s face went white again and she grabbed the vase next to her with her hand.

“What do you want?” Alan gave her a look and said coldly, “Aren’t you going to trade with me? Are you going to trade with a dead man?”

“Go and find the medicine chest.”

Lexie froze for a while and looked at Alan who seemed to have calmed down, and only then did she sigh with relief.

A few minutes later, Lexie found a medicine box and came to treat Alan’s wound.

Lexie’s hand shook and when she laid hands again, it was much lighter.

“Why are you suddenly taking on Mitchell Group?”

[He wasn’t treating me well and didn’t treat me like his own daughter, and I wanted to find a way for myself.]

Flora had said the matter of her mother could not be casually mentioned to others, so Lexie did not dare to talk nonsense.

Alan, however, suddenly asked, “Do you know something?”

Lexie was slightly stunned, [Am I supposed to know anything?]

Alan frowned.

Thinking about all the information Jack had found out, he was suddenly distracted, “No.”

After treating the wound, Lexie packed up the medicine box.

Alan’s head was wrapped in gauze, and his original hostility was reduced, the bow on the back of his head looked a bit funny.

“You haven’t explained what happened with that lawyer.”

Lexie paused for a moment in her packing.

Later, she turned around, her gaze calm and strong, [You can lay hands on him.]

Alan’s eyes sank.

Lexie’s quiet eyes made Alan’s heart suddenly tighten.

“Is this your way of warning me?”

[Since you agreed to make a deal with me, I can’t possibly take no interest at all].

“Interest? The interest you want is for me not to lay hands on that man?”

[I’ll help you acquire the Mitchell Group, you can’t lay hands on people around me. Don’t be suspicious of me, this deal is not a loss at all for you, isn’t it?]Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.

Lexie was apprehensive, not knowing how Alan would respond.

Alan looked at her quietly, his eyes growing darker and darker, “Okay, I promise.”

Lexie had always been submissive to him, and today what she said was already unexpected.

Was it really to find a way out for herself? Or was it a lie made up to protect that man?

He would like to see what kind of incident, a bastard daughter, could make.

Late at night.

In the Howard’s villa.

“None of them came back? Did you call Jack to ask?”

“Yes, he said Mr. Alan has something to take care of and won’t be back tonight.”

“What about that mute?”

“Jack didn’t say, but Mr. Alan has been quite cold to her recently, I’m guessing they are not together.”

Diana sipped her tea, smug, “It’ll be fine once the novelty wears off, Alan has seen so many women, what can a mute be capable of? She is not that obedient, he’ll get bored of enough playing.”

“But, Madam, I heard that Mr. Alan came back from his business trip with a woman.”

At those words, Diana’s face changed, “A woman?”

“He also have a flat arranged, and I heard that she is a university student who studied in J City university.”

“Who is she? Did you find out the details?”

Marry shook her head.

That was all the information from Alan’s driver.

After picking up Alan from the airport, the driver was also surprised to see Alan returning with a woman.

Diana’s frown deepened, “Have someone check it out, don’t let her take the advantage.”

“Okay.”

Three days later.

Groundbreaking ceremony for the renovation of the City Library.

Lexie was called to help out with the logistics and in the bathroom, she bumped into Tina.

“It’s been a long time, cousin-in-law.”

Tina gave her a sidelong glance as she looked in the mirror to fix her makeup, “You look good, I thought you’d have to take a year and a half off after that car accident.”

Lexie clenched her fists and shivered involuntarily.

The car accident still haunted her.

[You caused the accident!]

“So what if it’s me? Did you see my cousin pursue anything?”

Tina had a smug look on her face, “The whole family knows that I did that, but what can you do? I told you, even if you were in the Howard family, no one would take you seriously, and sooner or later you’ll have to pay for Victor’s death.”

The gloomy voice echoed in the bathroom and Lexie shuddered.

Tina was a crazy woman.

“By the way, there’s something I need to remind you of,” Tina suddenly raised her eyebrows, looking eerie with a wry smile, “You may not be able to be Mrs. Howard for long.”

“Who would expect there is another person?”

Lexie was unsure, but Tina sneered and walked away with her bag.

The foundation stone laying ceremony was held in the open space.

Alan was also present as an investor.

Lexie stood in the line of ceremonial ladies, holding a tray with scissors that would be used later for cutting the ribbon.

From a distance, she saw that the secretary beside Alan was not Jack, but a girl.

“I’ve never cut a ribbon, is it interesting?”

The girl’s delicate voice was somewhat out of place in this setting.

Alan’s face, however, had a rare look of doting, “Want to try?”

“May I?”

“Sure, it’s just a ribbon cutting.”

Lexie heard these words as she walked up to the two men with her tray. She raised her head and met Alan’s eyes, but his eyes were very unfamiliar.

Without changing his face, Alan took the scissors from the tray and handed them to the girl beside him.

“Thank you,” the girl smiled sweetly towards Lexie, “You look so pretty, Miss.”

Lexie froze.

On the side, Tina also took the scissors and said grimly, “Lydia, I’m afraid, this lady doesn’t want to hear you call her Miss.”

The girl was confused.
