Chapter 158 Rose's Daughter-In-Law
On their way, Athena received a call from Byron.
Athena picked up the phone.
Before Byron could say anything, Athena took the initiative to report. "Mr. Crawford, Madam Stella's
friend is in critical condition. I'm currently escorting her to the care home, the same one where Mrs.
Alivia Crawford is receiving treatment."
"Critical condition? Do you need my help?" Byron asked in a deep voice.
"Let's talk about it when we get there," Athena replied.
Suddenly, Athena heard a faint voice from the other end of the line.
"Understood. Drive safely, don't rush, and reach out to me if you need help." Byron's tone was gentle,
but there was obvious panic in his voice.
"Okay."
Athena replied and then hung up the phone.
Although the voice just now was not very clear, Athena could still recognize it was Heather's voice.
No wonder it was so easy for Byron to agree to let her go tonight.
So he was with Heather.
"Athena?"
On the side, Rose called her.
Athena snapped back to reality and asked, "Yes. What's the matter?"
"If he passes away, do you think I will never be able to find that person for the rest of my life?" Rose
murmured.
Athena hesitated for a moment and then asked, "Madam Stella, may I ask who is that person of
yours?"
"She..." Rose let out a long sigh and said, "She is my daughter-in-law."
"Huh?" Athena didn't expect Rose would say that.
"The person at the care home is actually her adoptive father. It turns out that when she and another girl
were born, there was an accidental switch. This truth came to light not long after she married into our
family," Rose shook her head and continued, "Subsequent events brought considerable shame upon
our family, which I'd prefer not to discuss. In the end, as a result of my momentary oversight and stupid,
her marriage with my son was annulled, and she departed our family, vanishing without a trace."
Athena didn't say anything.
Athena now understood that Rose's longing to find that person was because of her haunting sense of
guilt.
"Only this Christmas did I discover that I had been manipulated all those years ago and that I had
deeply wronged that girl. When I eventually managed to locate her adoptive father, he sternly rebuked
me and told me that she had already passed away many years ago."
Rose wiped away her tears.
"That child's personality resembles mine a lot. She is tough and competent. Back then, I even thought
of cultivating her as my heir!"
"Don't be upset..." Athena comforted Rose softly.
Rose choked, shaking her head. Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
"I just want... whether she was alive or dies, I want to find her and apologize to her."
The atmosphere became heavy.
Athena played some soothing background music.
When Rose arrived at the care home, the person had already out of danger.
However...
When Athena investigated the ward through the window, she could tell that the withered old man was
on the verge of death.
Athena felt that man looked exactly like when her grandma and grandpa were about to pass away. The
signs of impending death were evident in him.
"Madam Stella, we have done everything within our power." The attending physician looked helpless as
he spoke to Rose. He said, "He is still conscious at the moment, so you may want to have a
conversation with him."
Rose shook her head and didn't say anything.
Shortly after, Athena supported her into the ward.
"Herman..." Rose called that man, her voice trembling.
The withered old man glanced at her and asked, "Why are you here?"
"You know why I'm here." Rose's eyes welled up with tears, her once dominant and confident
demeanor dissolving. "We had a history together in our youth..."
"As you said, we had a history together in our youth." Herman gritted his teeth and suddenly became
hysterical. "That's why I trusted you with my most precious daughter! But how did you treat her?"
With Herman's words, alarms from the medical equipment began blaring sharply.
Hearing that, the medical staff hurried in.
Suddenly, Herman's gaze passed Rose and stared at someone behind her.
Herman looked shocked and urgently reached out his hand in that direction.
