Chapter 293

Chapter 293

It was as if the reply was instant the moment she sent out her message. A glint flashed in Sonia’s

eyes. NôvelDrama.Org owns all © content.

Xavier stood by the side watching her, his expression worried. “Are you all right?”

Sonia suddenly regained her senses. She bit the corner of her lip and in a weak tone, said, “I’m

fine.”

Xavier touched her forehead, his concern self–evident. “It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have let you

come here.”

Sonia flashed a weak smile. She did not avoid Xavier’s hand on her forehead either. Her innocent

eyes pooled with tears as she pretended to be strong.

Xavier’s brows moved, and he really felt a little soft–hearted.

After Candice and Alex went their separate ways, she returned to the villa.

She had originally wanted to return to Northdale, but the set of jewelry the old man had given her was

too precious. She was worried that leaving it there would cause trouble, so she brought it

over to the villa.

Hanley and the rest had yet to return and only Yana was around. Yana appeared to be quite well and

greeted Candice energetically.

She saw the bag in Candice’s hand. “What did you buy?” she asked curiously.

“I didn’t buy it,” Candice said. “Someone gave it to me.”

Yana had a look inside the bag. “This person is quite generous. My dad bought this set of emerald

jewelry for my mom before. It wasn’t cheap.”

Candice had already found out the price of the emeralds from Alex, so she merely nodded and

returned to her room.

When she came back downstairs, she bumped into Hanley and the rest who had just returned. Candice

greeted Hanley before entering the study on her own. She had to deal with all the documents that had

piled up from the day before.

As she entered, she received a call from Alex’s grandfather.

“Candice, has Alex taken you home?” he asked, concerned.

“I’m home.” Candice paused for a moment. “Is anything the matter?”

The old man gave a bitter laugh. “Alex. That lad is a dumbass. I know you’ve been wronged. Don’t

worry, I will teach him a lesson.”

Candice did not respond.

His words appeared to be blaming Alex, but in reality, the old man was defending him. “Candy, you’ve

always been the only granddaughter–in–law of the Elysian family. You and Alex-

Candice interrupted him before he could finish. Her tone was calm, without any unnecessary emotions,

“Grandpa, If you want to see me, I can come and see you anytime. But Alex already has. a girlfriend,

so it’s better not to say those things again.”

The old man sneered.” What do you mean girlfriend? I can’t stand that little brat!”

Candice said, “She’s quite good, and Alex likes her a lot.” This was a fact that anyone could see

from Alex’s tolerance towards Sonla.

Candice listened to the old man scold a little more, but she didn’t want to dwell on the matter of Alex

and Sonia with him. She decided to change the topic. They chatted for a while after that before ending

the call.

Afterwards, Candice immersed herself in work. The collaboration with Jessica that she had been

working on was progressing to the next level next week, and she needed to prepare a proposal in

advance.

After hanging up the phone, old Mr. Elysian lost his gentle demeanor. He handed the phone to the

caregiver beside him. “Call Alex and tell him I’m going to Aether,” he said casually.

When Shawn had been a young man, he had acted swiftly and resolutely, and always kept to his word.

Later on, with age catching up with him, he had slowly relegated his authority and did not

care about so many things anymore.

Candice had no idea that after the old man hung up, he intended to trouble Alex. As she was diligently

comparing data, Hanley knocked on the door and entered.

The study had almost become Candice’s exclusive space, and others had begun to knock before

entering.
