Chapter 260

Chapter 260

It was as if Peach had been holding back for a long time. She couldn’t stop crying. She was

receiving a blood transfusion, but now because of her movement there was blood flowing back through

the infusion tube.

Candice’s attention was still on what Peach had just said. Her mind was in disarray as she stared at

her. “Repeat what you just said.”

Peach sobbed, her eyes, now red, fixed on Candice. Her small face, once round, now seemed like a

bag of bones after who knows what Yvonne had done. Her cheekbones protruded, emphasizing her

large and round eyes.

Candice sighed internally, reaching out to pat Peach’s head. “Don’t be afraid. Just say whatever you

know.”

Peach was young and already frightened by the things she was holding back. Although she had not All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.

interacted much with Candice, she had been subtly influenced by Yvonne’s indoctrination, forming the

idea that Candice was a good older sister.

That was why, upon seeing Candice, she burst into tears.

“No, Daddy didn’t want to take Grandpa for a walk. That day, I saw Daddy and Grandpa arguing. When

Daddy got angry, he hit Grandpa, just like how he usually hits me. Then, Grandpa’s face

mask fell off.”

Candice stared at Peach in horror, shocked.

There were surveillance cameras in the hospital, but they were usually limited to public areas like

corridors. In patient rooms, to protect privacy, there generally were no cameras.

The evidence against Ivor was mainly based on his own guilty testimonies, Yvonne’s tacit

acknowledgement, and various previous criminal records. There was no actual surveillance footage in

the patient room. But now, Peach’s words undoubtedly once again confirmed Ivor’s

actions.

A chill ran through Candice’s heart, and a hint of fierceness flashed in her eyes. She closed her eyes,

trying to suppress her feelings.

Candice lowered her head, noticing Peach’s hand. She called a nurse to attend to it and then left

the hospital room.

Greg was waiting outside for her. “Lex just called. Let’s have dinner together tonight. Things on his end

are quite troublesome too.”

Ivor had given Alex’s Information to some unscrupulous people in Noxville. It was unclear what Ivor had

told them, but they were constantly harassing Alex. Furthermore, the impact had reached Aether’s

branch in Noxville.

They were local thugs, troublesome and shameless, causing endless annoyance. Even though the

police had been contacted, Alex had still had to come over personally.

Candice was well aware that all of this was a mess left behind by Ivor, and she had to take

responsibility.

She followed Greg to the doctor’s office. The doctor remembered her. When Candice visited Noxville

previously, she had asked the doctor for help for protection from Yvonne.

Dr. Lenox handed over some documents to her. “Peach’s condition isn’t too good. The best course of

action is to continue with hospitalization, but her family is not around right now. So, I need to ask about

your future plans.”

Peach had been directly brought back to the hospital by the Dorrington police, reportedly at her

own request, so the doctors were aware of her situation.

“Just keep it the same as before. Continue the treatment,” Candice said.

“But-” Dr. Lenox frowned, as if he wanted to say something more.

Candice hesitated for a moment. “I will arrange for a caregiver to take care of her. The usual treatment

can follow your standard procedures. I will cover the medical expenses, but I am usually in Dorrington

and cannot come to Noxville at the drop of a hat, so please take good care

of her.”

This was already the biggest concession Candice could make within the bounds of reason. She could

not bring herself to truly abandon Peach, given their blood relationship. However, she could not

personally take care of her either. It was beyond her.

Having stated her intentions clearly. Dr. Lenox had no further questions.

Greg, however, hesitated for a moment before saying. “Regarding Peach’s medical expenses, our

foundation can also take care of it.”

He looked at Candice. He knew she still owed money to Alex. It was not as if she had to pay

Peach’s medical expenses herself.

Nodding at the offer, she said, “Thank you for your help.”

After leaving the hospital, Candice’s mood was poor. She brooded on Peach’s words until she got

Into the car Greg. Even then, her expression remained somber.

Alex and Sonia had booked a hotel in the city center, so the agreed–upon meeting place was there.

Upon arriving at the hotel, dark clouds gathered in the sky, indicating an imminent downpour.

Following Greg inside, Candice looked up to see Sonia leaning close to Alex, whispering something.

Alex’s profile remained stern, nodding occasionally in response to Sonia’s words.

“Seriously, I rushed all over the entire afternoon, and thought you guys invited me for some good food,

but turns out it’s just to show off your love?” Greg pretended to be disgruntled.

Alex raised a brow, looking at him and said with a drawl, “Is everything sorted out?”

Greg replied vaguely, “I’ll inform them in due time. Taking care of Candice’s sister is not a difficult task.

She already meets the criteria.”

Alex was stunned for a moment. “Who asked you about that?” he asked emotionlessly. He frowned

slightly, his expression turning cold, and a hint of displeasure emerged. “Did you find the things I asked

you to find before?”

Greg suddenly realized Alex’s meaning. “It’s been taken care of a long time ago. I’ll bring it over

tomorrow.”

As they chatted among themselves, Candice stood at the side, pursing her lips. She had been lost in

thought about Peach’s situation, and it did not register that Alex would not casually invite her to

dinner for no reason.

“Candice, why don’t you take a seat?” Sonia smiled at her broadly. “Although Lex said we’re having a

simple dinner tonight, just catching up with Greg. But you know him too. Don’t be so

formal.”

This further confirmed that Alex indeed had not invited her tonight. She had misunderstood the

situation and followed Greg over.

Candice pursed her lips. “I’m sorry. I just remembered I have something to attend to, so I have to

leave.”

“Is it about your sister?” Sonia raised an eyebrow, looking at Candice with a hint of pity. “I heard from

Greg that the girl is quite pitiful. Candice, you should spend more time with her. After all, her parents

are quite unreasonable. I even advised Mrs. Dawson to be more open–minded earlier, but I didn’t

expect such an incident to occur.”

Candice’s footsteps halted, and she looked back at Sonia with a slightly darkened expression.

It was not surprising that Sonia knew these things, but what did she just say? She advised Yvonne?

Candice did not know when Sonia and Yvonne had become so close, but suddenly, certain details. that

she had previously overlooked flashed into her mind.

Previously. Yvonne had mentioned that Sonia had told her that if Candice left Aether, she could receive

compensation. It was the reason Yvonne created a scene at Aether.

There was also the time in Stugan City when Yvonne had subconsciously looked at Sonia.

And during her grandfather’s hospitalization, she had encountered Sonia at the hospital.

Candice’s mind suddenly quieted, and she looked at Sonia, who wore a faint smile on her face, and

Candice’s gaze deepened.
