Chapter 254

Chapter 254

Alex’s expression wasn’t good; he stared at Candice with a slight furrow in his brow.

Her expression remained unchanged. She seemed devoid of emotions or thoughts, like a walking

corpse.

Even when she went in and told the police she wanted to sue Ivor, It was just a routine action. She

wasn’t willing to share any more time or energy than necessary.

Alex didn’t speak, and Candice didn’t either. They just silently looked at each other.

It wasn’t until Hanley spoke from the side, “Mr. Elysian, could you please move? You’re blocking the

way,” that Candice sighed first.

She lowered her gaze to her own toes, and her voice, so light it could almost float away, said, “I’ve

been busy with work for so many years that I never really accompanied him. Now, in his final moments,

can you let me have some peace?”

Alex’s brows furrowed even tighter. Candice looked at Hanley and said, “Could you please take care of

things here for me?”

Hanley took off his coat and draped it over her. His tone softened as he spoke, “Call me anytime if you

need anything.”

She nodded, then lifted her leg and walked away.

She wanted to spend more time with her grandfather.

Joe often said that after a person passes away, the soul was like a newborn baby, muddled and

stationary.

Candice thought she should be with him. Otherwise, he might not find her, and he would be

anxious.

As she walked away, the gentleness on Hanley’s face dissipated. He looked at Alex and said, “Mr.

Elysian, if you have matters to attend to, go ahead. I’ll take care of things for Ms. Renault.”

Alex, with a heavy and cold expression between his brows, coldly sneered, “If you have so much free

time, I’m sure Caspian would be happy to find you some work.”

Hanley remained unfazed. He raised his eyebrows slightly and retorted, “Mr. Elysian, instead of

meddling in others‘ affairs, it might be better to deal with your own family matters first.”

Having said that, he was about to leave, but Alex’s chilly voice stopped him.

As someone who had long been immersed in the business world, the intimidating aura of someone in

power emanated from Alex. He warned Hanley with an emotionless tone. “The mess in the Baldwin

family is quite substantial.”

Undeterred, Hanley, with a slightly narrowed gaze, responded, “There’s no need for your concern.”

After delivering his words, he walked into the office to attend to the situation with Ivor.

Only Alex remained in place, his features dark and his ink–black eyes brewing a storm, making people

hesitant to approach.

After a moment, he lifted his lashes and looked forward in the direction Candice had just left.

His phone rang, and it was Daniel calling.

Alex’s brow tightened slowly, then he turned to answer the call.

Daniel’s voice was as cold and deep as ever, “Come home. I have something to discuss with you.”

Alex’s tone was indifferent. “What is it?”

“I want you to meet someone.”

Candice stayed at the hospital until evening. The news of her grandfather’s death quickly reached

everyone.

Jackson and Nadia, along with a group of people, came over. Kayla and Tamia also arrived.

Candice only exchanged a few words with each person and then stopped talking. Her spirits weren’t

great.

Jackson sighed softly, “Candice, the dead can’t come back to life. Grandpa wouldn’t want to see you

like this.”

Candice nodded. “I know.”

Her face remained calm. Apart from two red eyes, no one would think she had cried.

Seeing her like this, Jackson didn’t know what else to say, so he went out to buy dinner for her

The others didn’t stay for long as Hanley sent them away.

When everything around became quiet, Candice sniffed. She spoke to herself, “I didn’t cry in front of

outsiders.”

Joe had taught her not to cry in front of outsiders, and to be strong no matter what.

Hanley and Jackson soon came back with a bowl of porridge. Candice reluctantly took a few

mouthfuls but soon lost her appetite.

Originally, Hanley had intended to stay and accompany her, but she refused. She shook her head and

said. “I want to be alone with Grandpa. We haven’t had a good chat in a long time.”

At night, the hospital corridor was already quiet. She was the only one here.

She pulled her legs onto the chair, hugging them with both hands and resting her head on her

knees.

Her head was empty as there were no thoughts.

The night was cold with darkness covering the sky.

The Elysian family villa was in the suburbs, so it looked even more spacious and tranquil at night. Belongs © to NôvelDrama.Org.

Daniel had a smile on his face, but when he saw Alex entering, his smile faded for a moment.

He greeted in a deep voice, “This is Aunt Ava. You should have met before in Stugan City.”

Ava had a delicate smile on her face, and she nodded gracefully. “Indeed, we’ve met. He has a good

relationship with Nina.”

Daniel looked at Alex. “Is that so? Why haven’t I heard you mention it? Aunt Ava only has Nina as her

daughter. You can’t bully her.”

Alex’s brow furrowed, and his gaze fell on Nina beside him.

Nina was dressed in a suit, her red lips curved in a smile as she greeted Alex, “Long time no see.”

Alex withdrew his gaze, looking back at Daniel. “Why did you call me back?”

“Can’t I call you back without any reason?” Daniel’s attitude immediately became more serious, and his

sharp eyes were filled with scrutiny and warning.

He said in a deep voice, “Since you don’t have much to do these days, you should spend more time

with Nina. She’s a girl, so it’s unsafe for her to be alone, plus she’s not familiar with the places in

Dorrington City.”

Alex directly replied, “There’s a lot going on with Aether Corporation. I don’t have time.”

Daniel stared at him, seemingly about to speak. However, Ava intervened, “Young people can handle

their own affairs. Besides, Nina is not a child. She’ll be fine on her own.”

She said it casually, but when her words fell, the cup in her hand happened to be placed on the

marble table, emitting a soft sound.

Daniel’s face darkened, and he seemed about to speak, but Alex lifted his leg and went straight

upstairs.

Helen hadn’t been home much lately; she should be with Jeffery.

He went straight to his room. He rarely stayed here, so there weren’t many things in the room.

Alex’s eyes paused, and her gaze suddenly stopped at a certain spot on the desk.

Candice stayed alone in the hospital overnight. When Hanley and the others came the next morning,

her complexion was unnaturally pale.

Nadia touched her hand and exclaimed that her hand was icy.

However, Candice seemed oblivious. Her lips had lost their color, her eyes showing signs of

fatigue.

Hanley frowned and reached to touch her forehead. It felt scorching hot.

Candice didn’t want to be touched. She moved away, but the dizziness made her stagger backward.

Fortunately, Nadia supported her.

When Hanley and the others came, they also brought news about Yvonne and Ivor.

Under the accusations of the surveillance footage and the nurse, Ivor reluctantly admitted that he had

indeed disconnected Joe’s ventilator while Yvonne stood by and didn’t stop him.
