My Mirror Image by Maybe Not (Candice And Alex’s)

Chapter 59

Chapter 59

Nina sat extremely close next to Alex, and he caught a whiff of her perfume as it drifted toward him.

Her knee brushed against him. She leaned in and whispered, “I’m sure I can match up to your secretary.”

Alex’s gaze darkened, his eyes losing their playful spark, replaced by a cool detachment.

He uttered lightly, “My purpose here is to conduct business with Ms. Goodman, not to sleep with her daughter.”

Nina froze in response.

She made a grab for his shirt, trying to convince him, “My mother wouldn’t mind. She’s quite fond of you.”

Alex maintained his cool as he stood up and picked up the prescription Candice

had left on the table.

He gently brushed her off, saying, “I don’t think it’s appropriate.”

After pausing, he continued, “And there’s someone at home.”

Nina looked at him, somewhat embarrassed. Her eyes flickered at the medicine in his hand, and she probed, “Is it your secretary?”

Alex remarked, “It’s none of your business.”

Meanwhile, Candice returned to her room and instantly fell asleep after taking a NôvelDrama.Org holds © this.

bath.

She had been out shopping all day, and the comfortable Stugan climate helped her fall asleep quickly.

In the middle of the night, her phone, which was put beside her nightstand, rang and jolted her awake.

Alex’s voice broke through the silence, powerful and resonant. He merely commanded with two words, “Come over.”

Clutching the phone, her voice hoarse from sleep, she asked, “What’s wrong?”

Nina was probably still in his room upstairs, but he actually asked her to go up there.

Alex did not answer, and the line was cut.

Candice climbed out of bed, donned her jacket, and headed upstairs.

Upon reaching his room, she found the door slightly ajar. After a moment of hesitation, she gently pushed it open and stepped inside.

There was no one in the room; she frowned and considered leaving.

Then she saw Alex emerging in his pajamas through the opened balcony door. His figure was tall and lean, and the belt was loosely tied around his waist.

He was on a phone call. Catching sight of Candice, he threw a brief glance her way before lowering his voice and saying goodnight to the person on the other end of the line.

Candice stood awkwardly to one side, uncertain of his intentions.

He took his time finishing the call.

She overheard him say “goodnight” to someone numerous times, and she could not tell if it was Sonia or Nina.

Alex asked, “What time is it?”

He had finally disconnected the call and checked his WhatsApp, not looking up at her.

Candice shot a glance at him, checking her phone, and responded, “It’s 1:40 am.”

He muttered, “I’m hungry.”

“Do you want me to ask for room service?” she said, frowning.

“I need hot broth for my stomach,” He eventually put his phone away and glanced at Candice..

“But it’s past one in the morning,” she said slowly.

“I’m sure some shops are still open downstairs.”

She asked slowly, “It’s past one in the morning; can’t you eat something else?”

Where could she get some broth for him in the middle of the night? The night wind in Stugan was chilly, and her thin clothing was unable to keep her warm. She had no desire to make the trip downstairs.

His gaze was icy as he pointed to Candice, his voice devoid of emotion, “I didn’t ask for your opinion.“,

Candice turned and left without a word.

Outside, the Stugan City wind was brisk and biting. She shivered in her thin

She was relieved to find a nearby stall still open.

Quickly, she purchased the broth and hurried back.

When she arrived, the door to his room was closed.

A sense of dread filled her as she knocked repeatedly, but there was no answer.

Just as she was about to give up and leave, the door finally opened from the inside.

Alex stepped back into the room without so much as glancing at her.

Candice followed him inside, noticing his laptop open on the coffee table, signaling he was working.
