Chapter 91 As the Hostess
“Of course. Or why would I call you? What a weird question!” Esther left Caleb and walked over to Eva.
“Oh, I remember you are not a friend of mine, Miss Deville.” Eva turned back and stared at Esther with a faint smile on face.
Esther saw the smile on Eva’s face and she was more irritated.
“Oh, maybe we could become acquainted later,” Esther said as if she were Caleb’s wife and she stared at Eva. She would say these words because she thought she would marry Caleb soon and then Eva, as an employee of her husband’s company, would certainly become acquainted with her.
“It is a maid’s duty to serve guests tea or coffee, I remind you. Maybe you failed to learn that during training?” Esther had a contemptuous look at her.
So, you also know you are not the hostess in this house, Miss Deville? Then maybe how I should do is none of your business.” Eva said calmly and didn’t show any anger.
“You! It’s not my duty to remind you. But such a lazy maid would certainly irritate me.” Miss Deville thought Eva would reply obediently. But she was now teasing her.
“And Caleb’s problem is my problem. I’m just remind you on his behalf.” Esther said arrogantly.
“It’s still none of your business.” Eva said coldly.
Esther didn’t win this quarrel so she turned back and walked towards Caleb.
“See how impolite she is!” Esther said to Caleb angrily.
“What do you want to say to me?” Caleb changed the topic quickly.
“Oh, I almost forget it. Here is a cup of soup I made. I want you to have a taste, Caleb.” Esther put on a clever and lovely face and said in a sweet voice. Now she looked as if she were not the same person who had just found fault with Eva. She led Caleb to the table and put a cup of soup before him.
That’s what she learned from her friend. It was said that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. So, she prepared the soup and brought it here.
“Why are the maid here so impolite, Caleb? She didn’t even know how to serve guests.” Esther got a cup of soup for while complaining about Eva.
Esther felt that Eva was a potential threat to her and she decided to drive her out of Rosenfeld Hill as soon as possible.
Caleb stared at Eva, who looked quite indifferent, and thought of how intimate she was with Adam McCallum, and felt quite angry. Then he suppressed his impulse to say anything to defend Eva and took the cup of soup.
“How does it taste, Caleb?” Esther saw Caleb had a sip at her soup and was waiting for his praise.
“Not bad,” Caleb put down the cup directly.
His words inspired extreme joy in Esther’s mind and she said with his arm in her arms, “If you like I can make it for you every day.”
Then she looked at Eva contemptuously.
Eva didn’t like someone staring at her like this. She noticed Esther’s eyesight and walked over to her directly and looked at her carefully.
Esther felt ill at ease and said, “Why are you staring at me? You haven’t seen such a beautiful dress, right?”
Esther was in a customized dress so that she could attract Caleb’s attention and with Eva’s shirt and jeans in sight, she thought Eva was looking at her dress.
“Oh, see how narcissistic you are, Miss Deville. Seemingly, you are not the type of person able to make delicious soup.
“I can do everything for my Caleb. I spent a whole afternoon making this soup. And what about you? A maid who failed her duty?” Esther wanted Caleb to know how and now Eva’s words gave her a chance.
Esther’s arrogant look and the word “maid” made Eva turn to Caleb to see what Caleb would do.
Caleb certainly knew what Eva wanted him to do. After all, he was the one who invited Eva to live with him.
“Esther, Eva is my guest.” Caleb finally opened his mouth.
Esther heard his words and was taken aback. It had never occurred to her that her Caleb would speak up for Eva.
Eva was satisfied with Caleb’s words and sat on the sofa opposite to Esther.
“You said the truth, Miss Deville. The soup would take 4-5 hours to cook. I think maybe next time Miss Deville won’t have to buy it from the restaurant and bring it here herself.” Eva said while fixing her eyes on the box holding the soup.
“What are you talking about? I made the soup myself.” Esther didn’t know how Eva found out the truth. She had changed the package and made sure Caleb wouldn’t know she got the soup from a restaurant.
She was born in a wealthy family and she had no idea how to cook since she was a child. So, she bought the soup from Bearwick and Eva’s words made her feel quite nervous.
Caleb sat beside them calmly but he also kept all Eva’s move in sight.
“Okay, then next time please change the soup box as well.”
Esther heard her words and checked the box. But she didn’t find anything wrong. Then she looked upwards at Eva with rage.
Eva must be lying to her and she even believed her!
Esther knew she had overacted and was afraid that Caleb would notice something through her behavior. She quickly turned to Caleb and found he was still lowering his head to read his newspapers. Seemingly, he didn’t notice her behavior and then she finally calmed down.Belonging to NôvelDrama.Org.
Eva noticed the warning in Esther’s eyes and she didn’t appear to be scared and even looked at her smilingly.
“Oh, well, I think I should remind you here. Never judge a book by its cover and inside could also be noticed, my dear.” Eva was not only reminding her to check the inside of the box but also telling her the importance of inner beauty.
After a while, Esther knew what Eva’s words meant. She picked up the insulation cup on table and saw the logo of “Bearwick” inside the cup. Suddenly, she got flushed and she turned to Eva with an all the more unfriendly face.
