When the call connected, Skylar spoke directly.

Joe’s cold voice came through the phone. “I’m almost there.”

“Really? That quickly?” Skylar was surprised.

Joe confirmed with a low, distracted sound. Over the phone, it sounded as if Joe was in a bad mood.

Skylar’s lips twitched slightly.

Joe and Vera had been together since the afternoon, reminiscing about familiar places from their past. There shouldn’t be any reason for him to be upset. Exclusive content from NôvelDrama.Org.

She wondered if he was upset because she had made him come pick her up in the middle of the night.

Skylar felt a bit unsettled as well. She ended the call and turned to Aiken.

“Mr. Parkinson, could you arrange for someone to pick me up from the hotel tomorrow at 7:00 am?”

Aiken gave Skylar a thoughtful look before agreeing. “Sure.”

He then glanced at his watch. “It’s already past 1:00 am. Why don’t you and Mr. Martin stay here for the night? It’s more convenient.”

It was clear from the call that Skylar and Joe hadn’t been very cheerful. As Skylar was about to respond, there were noises outside the villa..

Aiken looked out and said, “Mr. Martin’s here.”

“Alright, see you tomorrow.” Skylar thought about the clothes and essentials she had left at the hotel and knew it would be inconvenient to stay here.

As she stepped out of the villa, she saw Joe leaning against his car, his long legs standing out.

When he noticed Skylar approaching, Joe looked over at her. Under the streetlights, his eyes appeared even more enigmatic, revealing no clear emotions. It was impossible to tell what he was thinking.

However, it was clear that he wasn’t in a good mood. His entire presence seemed to radiate a cold, distant energy.

When he noticed Aiken, his gaze darkened further.

Walking up to the car, Skylar turned to Aiken and said, “See you tomorrow.”

Aiken nodded. “Thanks for your help tonight. See you tomorrow.”

He then turned to Joe. “Sorry to bother you.”

Joe pressed his lips together and offered a faint smile. “It’s nothing.”

On the drive back to the hotel, the atmosphere between Skylar and Joe was unusually tense. The driver sensed the discomfort, glancing at them through the rearview mirror but avoiding staring too obviously. Skylar felt somewhat exhausted and didn’t want to put herself in an awkward position. She figured Joe’s bad mood was likely due to Vera, so she leaned back and fell asleep in the seat.

Seeing Skylar asleep soundly, Joe’s face immediately tensed, and his lips were pressed tightly.

Joe thought, “See him tomorrow?”

He wondered if she was planning to see Aiken again tomorrow. They had just seen each other today, and she already couldn’t wait to see him again.

If he hadn’t come to pick her up, she would have stayed at Aiken’s villa tonight. The more he thought about it, the more agitated he became.

They soon arrived at the hotel.

“Wake up. We’re here.”

When Skylar heard Joe calling her, she opened her eyes. She felt a bit dizzy and groggy. Sleeping in the car hadn’t been very refreshing.

She got out of the car, feeling sluggish, and made her way back to the suite.

As she headed for the bathroom, she glanced back at Joe. “Do you want to shower first?”

After a short nap in the car, the elevator ride back upstairs made her feel more awake. She was willing to wait for Joe to finish. Moreover, Joe showered quickly.

Joe relaxed his tense expression slightly and said with a smirk, “Why don’t we shower together?”
