Natalie glanced at the empty seat beside her and said, “Excuse me, ma’am, there’s a seat available next to you.”
However, the woman sitting nearby seemed to ignore her, maintaining a blank expression as she continued to stare at Natalie.
Natalie exchanged a look with Skylar. Skylar felt the woman looked somewhat familiar, but it was hard to tell with sunglasses and a mask covering her face.
It seemed like the woman was trying to avoid being photographed.
Just then, the woman spoke up, “I’m Vera.”
“Vera?” Natalie’s eyes widened in surprise.
Although she had never interacted with Vera, she had seen her before. The online news had caused quite
a stir. Vera’s name was now linked to Joe and Lizzie.
Natalie felt relieved that Skylar and Joe had managed to keep their marriage private so the news wouldn’t affect Skylar directly..
However, it was surprising to run into Vera at the mall while they were just casually strolling after enjoying
their fondue. Property belongs to Nôvel(D)r/ama.Org.
With the headlines screaming, if she were Vera, she would likely be hiding at home, waiting for the chaos to settle before stepping outside.
After all, Vera wasn’t even a part of the entertainment industry and had no reason to seek attention. She would want the rumors to fade as quickly as possible.
Given her current disguise, it seemed unnecessary to be out in public.
Skylar calmly regarded Vera. “So it’s Ms. Ruell.”
Vera scrutinized Skylar from a height of arrogance, expecting Skylar to look haggard and heartbroken after being supposedly abandoned by Joe.
However, after observing Skylar and Natalie laughing and chatting happily, Vera realized that Skylar appeared neither lonely nor sad.
Seeing Skylar so composed and at ease made Vera feel unsettled. “Do you know how Joe met Lizzie?” Vera asked, her voice icy.
Natalie rolled her eyes in disbelief. Vera was completely out of her mind. The audacity to ask such personal questions was beyond her.
Vera’s high–and–mighty attitude was absurd. Natalie thought it was ridiculous.
Skylar’s expression remained cold as she replied, “I don’t know. You’re asking the wrong person.”
“How could you not know? You’re with Joe all the time, living under the same roof. There’s no way you wouldn’t know his relationship with Lizzie. Did you already know? Is that why you’re so calm now?” Vera’s tone suggested she had figured everything out.
Maybe Skylar knew everything, which explained her indifference. It also made Vera wonder if Joe had given Skylar enough advantages to keep her feeling secure.
With only two hours of sleep since last night, Vera found it impossible to accept the situation.
Natalie couldn’t hold back any longer and rolled her eyes again. She said, “Don’t you have too many questions? Why should we answer you? Who do you think you are?”
Skylar might be easygoing, but Natalie had a limit. Vera had put on a façade of sophistication and superiority in front of others, but now she came to Skylar fully armed, seeking validation.
She couldn’t help but wonder what gave Vera the audacity.
Skylar glanced at the visibly frustrated Natalie and told Vera, “I have plans with my friend, so you’re free to leave.”
Her tone clearly indicated it was time to go.
However, Vera acted as if she didn’t understand. Peering over her sunglasses at Skylar, she said, “I’m sure you know something. Just tell me what you want. I just want to know if Joe likes Lizzie.”
“You’re asking the wrong person. Go ask Joe directly.” Skylar had lost all patience with Vera.
She realized then that Vera was pretending to be indifferent about Joe in front of others, but it was all a façade.
