Upon reading the message from Skylar, Alexander was taken aback. “How could you think that? Skye, this is not something to joke about.”
“I’ve reviewed the two recent letters from Grandma Viola multiple times. The handwriting is definitely hers, which is why we all initially assumed these were her intentions. However, I’ve suddenly calmed down over the past couple of days and reflected on her usual style.
“These letters seem different from her usual style. I’m about seven percent sure that Grandma Viola is currently being held against her will,” Skylar replied solemnly.
“I’ll have someone look into it right away,” Alexander said after a few moments of silence.
Skylar added, “Please keep Grandma Viola’s situation from Grandma Gloria. She’s not in good health and can’t handle any more stress. As for Grandma Viola… I think it’s best to act as if we’re following the instructions in the letters for now and temporarily leave Jipsburg in a few days.”
She could spend some time in the countryside. It would also be a good opportunity to sort through some of Viola’s belongings there, and perhaps she would gain some insights.
Alexander agreed and said, “I was thinking the same thing.”
After ending the call with him, Skylar reached out to Aiken.
Though they didn’t know each other well, she knew some of Aiken’s abilities. She sent him details about Viola and included some photos.
About ten minutes later, Aiken called her back. “Don’t worry. I’ve already set things in motion and will find her as soon as possible.” His voice was gentle.
Skylar’s previously turbulent emotions settled somewhat. She said, “Thank you. Please let me know as soon as you have any updates. And how much do you need? I can transfer the funds now.”
Aiken was silent for a few seconds before he chuckled and said, “You’ve helped me so much. It’s only fair that I help you this time. Isn’t bringing up money a bit too formal? Don’t worry. Finding someone is exactly what I’m good at.”
With that, Skylar dropped the topic of money. Aiken had a way of putting people at ease, making it easy to trust him.
“Have you and Simona returned to Jipsburg yet?”
It suddenly occurred to her that she hadn’t asked about his and Simona’s situation when she had
contacted him earlier. She wondered if they had returned from Fachington yet.
Aiken laughed and said, “We’re on tomorrow’s flight. Simona insisted on coming back. She doesn’t want to fall behind in her studies. Let’s have dinner together once we’re back,”
“Sure, let me treat you two. It’ll be a nice welcome–back dinner,” Skylar replied.
“Alright.”
After Aiken hung up, his gaze remained fixed on his phone.
Even when Simona stared at him for a long time, he didn’t notice. It wasn’t until she let out a surprised shout that he finally snapped out of it.
“Ah!”
Aiken turned to look at her, surprised by her outburst. He initially thought she had remembered something from her previous experiences. Just as he was about to ask, Aiken noticed Simona staring at him with wide eyes, as if she had just discovered some big secret.
“Aiken, why didn’t I realize it before? You like Skylar, don’t you? I overheard your conversation with Skylar just now. We’re returning to Jipsburg in a couple of days, and it’ll be your birthday right after that. You invited her to dinner because you want her to spend your birthday with you, right?”
Simona was convinced she had figured it out. Nobody knew Aiken better than she did.
To outsiders, it might seem like Aiken had plenty of women around him, but she knew better. He never truly liked any of them–it was all for show. Têxt belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
But it was different with Skylar.
“Don’t be ridiculous. You can say that kind of thing in front of me, but don’t mention it to anyone else.” Aiken frowned, denying it outright.
Simona raised an eyebrow. “Aiken, I’m not being ridiculous. After you hung up, you kept staring at your phone and smiling the whole time.
“And I’ve noticed that you’re always in a good mood whenever you’re around Skylar. Other people might not see the difference, but I do. You like her.”
Aiken’s face grew stern.
“Why not admit it? So what if you like her? From what Caleb told me, Skylar and Joe may be married, but their relationship isn’t exactly great. Moreover, I’ve heard Joe’s been entangled with
Vera for a while now. “Who knows, maybe they’ll get divorced soon. If you can end up with Skylar, I’ll be the first to support you.‘
