Simona said, "Here, take the key card. I'll just take a cab home."

Even though she wished for some significant progress with Stephen, she couldn't ignore her promise to Aiken. Hence, she quickly reined in her thoughts.

For some reason, she felt a growing distance between her and Stephen. In her mind, two voices seemed to be debating. One insisted that Stephen would never deceive her, while the other whispered that he had secrets.

As he stared at the key card, Stephen was momentarily stunned. "It's late. Taking a cab home might take you over half an hour. Why don't you just sleep here at the hotel?"

"I'm not used to sleeping in hotels. I have a lot to do tomorrow, so I should go home. I can see you're tired too. Get some good rest tonight. See you tomorrow! Goodnight," Simona said, waving her hand at him before decisively leaving.

Watching Simona walk away with determination, Stephen frowned. He couldn't shake the feeling that he was losing his grip on her.

They could have easily taken the next step tonight, but she chose to go home instead. That excuse might work on someone else, but it was too flimsy for him.

Once upstairs, he opened the door with the key card and quickly took a shower. Then he lay in bed and called Simona. "Did you get home?" As soon as the call connected, his voice was incredibly gentle.

Simona felt her heart flutter. She closed the door quietly and dropped her bag. "I just got home. I'm about to take a shower. Are you still awake?"

"I can't sleep until I know you're home safe," Stephen replied.

Upon hearing that, Simona's heart raced. "I'm home safe now. You should relax and go to sleep."

"Okay, goodnight. See you tomorrow." His voice was particularly soothing.

It was hard for any girl not to feel a stir of emotions when he said his goodnights in such a tender manner. After the call ended, Simona found herself lost in thought for a moment, her cheeks flushed.

She hurried off to the bathroom.

Stephen's voice was captivating. No wonder some classmates said that even if he wasn't good-looking, his voice alone could drive them crazy. She wondered how enchanting his voice would be in more intimate moments.

Thinking of that, Simona couldn't bear to dwell on it any longer.

"Time to shower! I need to shower quickly."

Ten days passed in the blink of an eye. Minerva came to visit Skylar.

"I've been wanting to meet up with you, but I've been swamped lately," Minerva said, a hint of embarrassment in her voice.

A few days ago, she had called to check on Skylar and learned that she was resting at home to recuperate. Finally, she found some time to visit.

After a few days of rest and drinking nourishing soups every day, Skylar's complexion was rosy, and she appeared more energetic than Minerva. Minerva looked noticeably thinner than when they had last met.

"Are you busy with your new house renovations?" Skylar asked.

Minerva and her fiancé had set a wedding date. They were preparing their new home, a spaciousnovelbin

multi-story villa. If they were

managing the design and renovation themselves, it must have been quite a task.

"Yes, since it's our wedding home, I have some ideas I want to

incorporate. I've spent much time discussing the design with the architect, but we've encountered many issues during the renovations. It's honestly a bit overwhelming.

"Moreover, we're also planning the wedding. You must come to my wedding!" Minerva's face showed signs of fatigue, but it was illuminated with happiness.

Skylar was thrilled for Minerva. "Of course! I'll definitely be there on your big day. I can't wait to see which man has captured your heart."
