Mr. President’s 7
“Miss Winters, meet our President, Nathan Legend. You will be Ins temporary assistant till I get a replacement before you are moved to assist Director Blake, he turned to a middle–aged man with brown hair and few silver strands.
Mercedes felt her stomach hot. So hot it couldn’t be quenched. She lost concentration when Vincent introduced her to the other managers and directors. Her bron gaze nervously accentuated Nathan’s dark ones.
To her utmost plight, Nathan seemed indifferent. Clad in a sea blue shirt and black blazer, he could take your breath away. It was almost as if he never met het or didn’t recognize her, which made her disturbed. Perhaps he was a twin or he just didn’t recognize her because she was formally dressed. Typically, Nathan gave no response which wasn’t a surprise to Vincent, but Mercedes. Vincent went ahead to show her where to sit before he took his position for the meeting to commence. The boardroom radiated a tension that emanated through everyone present. Everything was glass therefore, she could see the outside of the room. Everyone seemed to be in their office. There were no movements.
The meeting continued as if she wasn’t there. She took minutes and tried to understand what they were talking about. It was her first time working in a mining company but she had worked in a jewellery company before so certain subjects seemed familiar. Everyone who sat at the round table looked dignified and well put. Nathan seemed to be the youngest but also with the highest authority. He exhumed an aura that made them coil to his sovereignty.
Mercedes was seeing a different side of him. A side that could make her tremble if not for her feisty nature, His voice was deep, velvery and cold. His eyes carried no warmth and his words were like gold. He exhuded a different aura than any CEO she worked with
At least he didn’t remember her. That was a relief. She could start afresh but, raw knowledge minced her with the understanding of why he looked so familiar to her when he walked into the club. She had heard of his name and saw a picture of him in the newspapers but never in person but he looked quite different than she saw in the paper but that was over a year ago.
Who hadn’t heard of Nathan Legend? The only billionaire whose private life wasn’t out in the open. Sources portrayed him as gay but most people said he was the devil in human form. A sexy devil at that. A multi–time billionaire who never used a driver or bodyguard, with the actualization that the criminals feared to tread his path.
Yet, he was e
every woman’s dream but was attracted to none, which exempted him from all the others and made him greatly honoured. He worked in the mines as a child and built his passion, bringing it to a different light.
Mercedes never thought she would ever work for him because she knew he only hired male assistants. Even in the boardroom, there was no woman present.
Nathan loathed the female race just because of one incident. Therefore, Mercedes was the first woman to be in the boardroom which was why her presence was somewhat momentous. Only the president’s assistants were privy to matters i the boardroom. Assistants to other directors and managers only had to rely on the command of their bosses but not from the direct source,

“Can you give us a summary of everything discussed, Miss Winters?” Mercedes was startled when she heard her name from one of the directors, Dr Blake. His tone was casual with a ghastly excitement that felt odd. She was caught unawares but this was her chance to prove that she was worthy of her role. She glanced at her iPad and gave a summary of everything she had
noted.
“Good. We will work well together, the director said but Mercedes was rather uncertain with his remark. She felt something erroneous. Whichever way, if she was to choose between him and Nathan, she would choose him. She knows that Nathan hates women. It’s a known fact and she was glad he didn’t make her out after that awful encounter yet, she still wanted to be far from him and couldn’t wait for her replacement. His presence made her uncomfortable and put her on the edge.
“If there’s nothing else, then this meeting is over. When Nathan’s deep velvety voice rang, no one else dared to speak. Each person carried their computers and iPad, heading out the door. Nathan walked out without sparing Mercedes a glance. She held her chest and breathed out. Perhaps, what happened was forgotten or she must have met someone who looked like
him.
“It’s time I showed you to your office, Mercedes, but I will also take you through the other departments.” Vincent led the way while Mercedes eagerly followed. He knew when the meeting was going to be over and was also aware that Nathan would not allow an extra minute to his Monday meeting. Everything about him was time and money which made it easy for him to arrange for Mercedes to be introduced to the other staff.
Mercedes realized that there were female employees in the company. Some departments even had more females than males Vincent introduced Mercedes to the other staff as the temporary assistant, which earned her dangerous, haughty and few pleasant gazes. The pleasant ones were the men. Most of the females wished to be in her shoes. After parading all departments with the mature and energetic Vincent, they headed to the last floor.
“For now, you shall be on the last floor. That floor belongs only to the President and his assistant. For your information, no assistant has lasted for more than three days which is why I have made provision for you to be moved to the Director’s office if you get sent away, Vincent carefully explained. He knew of Mercedes‘ capabilities and didn’t want to lose such a gem.
“Thank you.” Mercedes took notice of her surroundings keenly while she followed Vincent. They arrived at the tenth and last floor, the president’s office. Mercedes had worked with a lot of high profile men but Nathan’s office was over the top.
It seemed like a house all in one. The adjacent room to his was supposed to be Mercedes‘ office which had its washroom with an adjoined kitchen. Nathan’s office had a living room set up. His desk was in the corner, his luxury furniture taking greater space. There was also a washroom and a bedroom. A small kitchen and a meeting room gave it a perfect satisfaction to his
Taste,
Even if he decided to live in the office without going anywhere, it was possible. He could as well have his meetings there. He only had to order food, thus if he didn’t want to cook because the kitchen was stuffed with groceries.
Mercedes‘ mouth went so wide, she didn’t realize the two men were glaring at her. “Miss Winters, Mr Legend asked you a question,” Vincent reverberated.
“What?” She was coming out of her trance..
“Are you new in this part of town?” Nathan’s deep velvety voice sounded close to her ears, she shuddered.
A frown creased her face when the meaning of his words sank in. She wasn’t new but Nathan’s ways were just exceptional. “No, I’ve been here for quite long
“If there’s nothing else, make yourself comfortable in your office that is if Mr Legend doesn’t have any work for moment. Vincent led Mercedes to her door and used her office exit. Nathan was merely glaring at Vincent as he spoke. As you at the soon as Vincent stepped out, Mercedes heard the beeping sound of the door code.
Realization hit her that Nathan hadn’t forgotten. He was merely pretending. She stood at the entrance to her office while Nathan ambled close to her. “Haven’t you realized that karma is a bitch?” He blurted in a curt tone.
Mercedes was dumbfounded, her heart thumping like it wanted to fall. She slowly understood the meaning of his words. She could resign this instant but she was broke after changing jobs continuously. She didn’t have à stable income and besides, she needed her job switch allowance to take care of some of her responsibilities. “What do you want?” She carefully
asked him.
Nathan strolled to his desk and motioned her closer. Mercedes sat on a chair in front of him. Nathan brushed the side of his neat cut hair with his palm and leaned closer. “Revenge,” he spat out. His voice was lethal.
Mercedes squirmed slightly before regaining herself. “I did nothing wrong to you, Mr Legend.” She sounded confident to

Nathan’s an
B48%.
The side of his lips curled, as he lifted his head to the right side of his wall. Mercedes broke out into cold sweat. Never had she thought that he took those words seriously. Her $1 note was neatly pasted on the side of his wall, where he could see it clearly. “That was a mistake, I apologise,” she uttered with difficulty. She wasn’t completely at fault but for a short while, she needed this job.
“Not enough?” Nathan sputtered, his dark eyes glaring daggers at her.
Mercedes jaws tightened. “So what do you want?”
“Let’s make it this way, you shall spend the rest of your life, paying for the insult you threw in my face, till I tear that $1 note off the wall, Nathan sputtered coldly.
Mercedes shivered to his words and as if to read her mind, he seethed, “don’t even think about resigning because, I would make sure, that no company employs you and if you run, I will find you…
