Chapter 93 Spectator
Carrie’s expression was contorted. Blanca stood in the doorway. Mr. Johnson’s head was bent. Seemed like Carrie was talking about her?
Why was she taking the bullet?
“What’s wrong, Grandpa? I could hear the fam arguing from a mile away!” Blanca adjusted her mood in the doorway and walked over to the sofa, sitting down on the sofa. She took the old man’s hand and giggled, “What’s that for, Grandpa. We are a family. And you’re so on in years now.”
“You slick little girl, you’re the only one who knows how to talk properly!”
Alan chuckled and clapped Blanca on the arm, sighing, “We’d wanted to have you over for dinner, but…”
“What’s happened?” Blanca blinked.
Seemed like it had something to do with her.
Matthew walked over, stood before the old man, and said, “Grandpa, Blanca’s too young to arrange the birthday feast.”
Birthday feast?
What birthday feast?
Blanca didn’t get it. Carrie, though, was quite happy hearing Matthew’s words. Her contorted expression disappeared and she was all smiles instantly. “Matthew’s right, Dad. Blanca’s still young. Even if you want to give her control of the family, you have to take it slow, right? This is your sixty-fifth birthday. With something that important, I’m afraid Blanca will mess it up.”
From Matthew and Carries words, Blanca deduced the rest.
It was Alan’s birthday coming up.
The old man wanted her to throw a feast for himself, but Carrie felt like it was infringing on her power, and wasn’t happy!
Wasn’t it just a birthday party at the end of it? She couldn’t be assed to give a damn…
“Grandpa, Carrie is right. Let’s hand it over to her after all. I don’t have much experience, and I’m not fit for it. Besides…” Blanca’s eyes rolled and she turned to look at Matthew. Matthew felt there was some special meaning to her smile. Then he heard Blanca say, proudly and shyly all at once. “Besides, since you’re so high in status, Grandpa, your birthday feast has to be a sight to see, and it must take a lot of effort to prepare. But with me… if Matthew doesn’t see me for even just one day, he’ll get really mad.”
“Hah hah hah hah…”
The old man burst out laughing. Matthew froze, though. Since when he needed to see her every day?
Mr. Johnson, though, was covering his mouth and laughing.
The old man was still not going with it. Blanca tossed a look at Matthew. Dubiously, Matthew leant over. His warm scent wafted into Blanca’s face, and made her heart itch. She suppressed her urges and poked Matthew’s firm back with her elbow, lowering her voice. “Bail me out here.”
She wasn’t really Matthew’s wife, and if the old man handed the authority over the family to her, she wouldn’t just have to watch out for Carrie and Louise’s plots against her every single day, she also had to figure out how to get rid of this hot plate. No thank you!
Blanca couldn’t help but clasp her hands together in a pleading expression. Matthew’s eyebrows twitched, and a smile crept across his lips.
Finally turning to him for help?
Matthew shot the look of a spectator at Blanca, who didn’t have the tears to shed at that moment. She pinched his arm in private. “You can’t leave me out to dry here!”This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.
