Chapter 35 You’ve Got Some Nerve!
“What’s the rush?” Carrie spat out the skin of a grape and said, displeased, “The family doctor just said that she’s fine, right? She’ll get better after a bit of rest, won’t she?”
“Mom-”
Carrie was frantic. Her mother had come up with the plot. Nothing was supposed to go wrong, but now everything had spiraled south. She was terrified.
Matthew looked like he wanted to flay her alive. If the matter was known by Alan, she was probably going to be judged by the whole family.
“You and your cowardice!” Carrie shook her head, exasperated. She just had to give birth to such a useless daughter.
If her daughter had half her capabilities, she wouldn’t have been unable to get the man Matthew up to this point.
“A while later, you’ll go upstairs and apologize to Blanca directly.”
“Huh? Me, apologize to her?!”
In Louise’s mind, she was the lady of the house, supported and loved by everybody. Who was Blanca again?
Just some country girl, but now she was flying all the way to the top!
As she saw how timid and irresponsible her daughter was, Carrie was fuming.
“How many times have I told you? Watch where the wind blows, and keep a low profile when you need to. Apologize to her properly, and then no matter what, just insist that you hadn’t meant it. With me here, they can’t do anything to you.”
“Really…” Louise looked indecisively at her mother.
Carrie nodded and patted her clothes down. “Come on. Let’s get this done before your grandfather comes back. If he does, and knows about what happened, I can’t help you either.”
With that, Carrie took her daughter’s hand and was about to lead her upstairs.
“Stop right there!”
There came a bark from behind. The mother and daughter halted in their tracks, exchanged a glance, and turned around.
Carrie was all smiles. “Back early today, Dad.”
Louise also greeted him with a wavering voice. “Grandpa…”
Alan had been visiting a friend when he’d received Matthew’s call and knew that Louise had shut Blanca in a storehouse. He’d flown into a rage and rushed back.
The moment he stepped in, he’d heard Carrie and Louise’s conversation.

“You’ve got some nerve, Louise!” Alan raged. “We Grants have always valued integrity. You might not be my flesh and blood, but I’ve always done my best to teach you how to behave. I didn’t think you’d go so far against Blanca with such methods!”
Talking about the Grant family and then Blanca in rapid succession, he clearly meant that Louise wasn’t part of the family, and didn’t match Blanca’s position in Alan’s heart.
Louise’s eyes reddened and she bit her lip.
“What? You’re pissed?” Alan stamped his cane in his wrath.
Louise stiffened. Sure she was pissed. She was also pissing her pants with Alan here.
“Grandpa, I… I didn’t mean it. I w-was just playing a prank on Blanca.”
“A prank? It’s fun playing a prank with your sister-in-law’s life?” Alan had always been strict with his children, and he really was angry now. He shot a look at Mr. Johnson and spat, “Shut Louise in the storeroom and show her what the prank feels like!”
Everyone obeyed Alan’s word, and Louise’s eyes widened. She tugged at Carrie in terror. “Mom! Mom, help me, I’ll freeze to death in there!”
