Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 80

Even the yacht's restroom was dripping with luxury, featuring a lavish makeup area that was perfectly lit and scented with fragrant aromas.

Not keen on returning to the main hall too soon to play the role of a decorative accessory, Selena ducked into the makeup area, hoping to snag a moment for herself.

A few high-society ladies were busy touching up their makeup in front of the mirrors.

Selena managed to go unnoticed, finding a cozy corner sofa to settle into. She kicked off her killer heels and started massaging her aching calves.

Where there's a group of women, you can bet there's gossip.

One socialite, while applying her lipstick, sighed, "Did you see the effort put into today's gig? Cole must really love Ruby to go all out like this."

Another chimed in, "Oh, for sure! It's nothing like those other high-society marriages that are just for show. Cole and Ruby have grown up together. They're the real deal. It's the kind of love you can't just envy away."Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.

The first socialite, suddenly reminded of something, sneered, "This wedding reminds me of Mr. Bennett and that plain wife of his. The Bennett heir's wedding should've been the event of the year, but here we are, three years later, and still no wedding bells." Mentioning the Bennett family got others all riled up, and they eagerly joined in.

Another chimed in, "Josh practically threw Selena at Everett. He married her out of obligation; of course, he wouldn't want a wedding. It's almost funny that Selena, coming from such a modest background, relied just on her looks and dreaming big." Laughter and mocking filled the room.

Selena's face stayed neutral. Over the years, she'd heard this kind of talk, and worse, at these gatherings. She'd transitioned from feeling angry, resentful, and hurt to a kind of numbness.

She used to put up with it to keep a good reputation, but she wasn't about to let this group of gossipmongers off the hook anymore.

Selena struck the heel of her shoe against the coffee table, the porcelain ringing clearly, capturing everyone's attention.

With a half-smile, she said, "I was wondering what all the noise was about. Turns out it's just a pack of... dogs barking."

The makeup area went dead silent. The socialites exchanged glances and then scattered like startled birds.

Suddenly, a voice cut in, "Selena,

A woman stepped out from another corner, casting a shadow over Selena. Selena looked up, raising an eyebrow. "Margot, you're still hanging around?" She hadn't expected Margot to show up today.

This was the first time Margot was at the same event as Selena and Everett.

Margot was dressed in loose clothes and wearing flats, and her face seemed a bit fuller, hinting at early pregnancy.

So, was she ready to step into the spotlight and not hide anymore because of the baby she was carrying?

Selena's hand clenched unconsciously.

Margot's face darkened; she thought Selena would be shaken by those words but saw no reaction.

Typical, shameless people are always thick-skinned.

Suppressing her anger, Margot

sneered, "Selena, today, I'll show you who's

Feeling it was beneath her to engage, Selena slipped her shoes back on and walked out, eager to leave the negativity behind. But just as she stepped out of the bathroom, Margot, hot on her heels, brushed past her and suddenly crumpled to the floor.
