Chapter 417
Before Everett could react, Selena's voice, thick with worry, cut through the tension. "Everett, my stomach's killing me... the baby, there won't be anything wrong, right?"
Everett's attention snapped to Selena immediately. He crouched down beside her, steadying her shoulders, letting her slump against him. He kissed her temple, murmuring comfortingly, "Everything's gonna be fine, don't worry, I'm here..." He then glanced over at Alex. "Is the ambulance still not here?"
Alex responded quickly, "I called them, but there's a traffic jam. It might be a while yet."
Anyone who knew Newport's traffic understood that once it jammed up, it was anyone's guess when things would clear.
Selena was in so much pain, her whole body was convulsing. Her breathing grew more ragged, and she clung to Everett's arm like she was hanging on for dear life.
"We can't wait around anymore."
Everett made a quick decision, telling Alex to get the car ready and take a different route to the hospital. It might be a bit out of the way, but it was better than standing around doing nothing. Alex nodded and hurried off to get the car.
Everett gently brushed Selena's damp hair away from her face with his cool fingers, speaking softly as if she might shatter at any moment. "Selena, think you can hang in there?"
Selena leaned weakly against him, her breath hot against his neck, tears welling up in her eyes, but she still managed to say, "I'm okay, I can handle it."
She was so gentle, yet so resilient, a combination that tugged at the heartstrings.
Everett's heart ached for her. He slid his strong arms under her back and knees, lifting her effortlessly as he headed for the door.
Margot was loudly protesting, claiming she hadn't done a thing, but Everett didn't hear a word of it. He completely ignored her, showing her nothing but his back, which only made her cry harder in frustration.
The others weren't about to
sympathize with her either, as they
were all firmly on Selena's side.
Aside from her title, Margot had
nothing, and these opportunists only helped Selena to give her a hard
time!
Margot's mind raced with plans for when she finally married Everett and became Mrs. Bennett. She'd deal with each and every one of them, especially that meddling nanny and Bill!
Her anger simmered as she watched Selena, weak in Everett's arms, suddenly meet her gaze.
Selena's face was still pale, tears streaked her cheeks, but her lips curled into a faint, knowing smile.
That smile was sharp and mocking.C0pyright © 2024 Nôv)(elDrama.Org.
Margot's eyes burned with rage as she pieced it all together.
This was all part of Selena's plan for revenge, just like at the banquet when she'd used the baby to make Everett worry and leave Selena for her flashing a triumphant smile Selena's way.
Damn her!
She was trying to drive a wedge between Everett and her!
Margot wouldn't let her succeed. Fueled by a surge of desperate energy, she broke free from the bodyguard's grip and charged forward.
She grabbed Everett's arm tightly, accusing "Everett, Selena isn't hurt, she's doing this to turn you against me. Don't fall for it; she even smiled at me just now, she's full of lies!"

She paused, an idea striking her, and added urgently, "There must be cameras around here, Everett, get someone to check the footage!"
She was so certain...
Everett paused, looking down at the frail Selena in his arms, his expression unreadable.
