Chapter 386
Selena knitted her brows slightly, picking up on the undertones in his words. She tried to figure out where she might have slipped up, but nothing came to mind. Besides, Everett was sharp and not one to miss details. It wouldn't be out of character for him to try and bait her into a confession, just like he did at that party. To spar with him intellectually, she had to keep her cool and roll with the punches without changing her game.
She kept a soft smile on her face, her dark eyes blinking innocently as she asked, "Everett, what is it you want me to say?"
Her voice was gentle, purposefully adopting a playful tone to steer the conversation into a more flirtatious territory.
"Do you want me to say, 'A day without you feels like a lifetime'? Or maybe, 'I've missed you"?"
Selena's fingertips brushed lightly against his Adam's apple, her smile as radiant as a blooming flower.
Everett watched her in silence.
Normally, he would've appreciated her clever and playful banter, but he had seen the calculating side beneath her seemingly sweet demeanor.
He had given her one last chance to come clean, yet she chose to keep up the facade.
Everett's patience had worn thin. The anger he'd been holding back since learning the truth yesterday burst forth, rushing to his head.
"Selena, if you've got nothing to say to me, I've certainly got questions for you!"
He grabbed her slender waist, lifting her and setting her aside. Everett stood up, took a few strides to the cabinet, and pulled down the brown paper bag from the top. With a swift motion, he tossed it in front of Selena, the sharp edge nearly grazing her cheek.
"How did the herbal tonic for your health turn into contraceptive pills, huh?"This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Selena's eyes landed on the brown paper bag, her face losing color.
After he'd caught her with the medicine that day, she'd rushed to have Ava tip off Derick, just in case Everett got suspicious. That way, he'd be prepared. She trusted Derick to handle it all.
So why did Everett still find out?
Seeing her frozen on the couch, her
hair partly covering her face and hiding her expression, Everett stepped forward, gripping her chin to force her gaze upward. Looking
down at her, his words to nov
"Selena, you were quite the chatterbox earlier. Why so silent now?"
With her head tilted back, forced to see his handsome face marred by anger, and feeling the full brunt of his fury, she couldn't deny she was rattled.
But more than anything, she felt helpless.
Her chin ached from his grip, but she didn't react much. The spacious villa fell silent, save for the sound of his angry, heavy breaths.
After a moment, she spoke softly, "How are Derick and Ava?"
Since he'd uncovered the truth, he knew everything. No wonder she hadn't seen Ava when she got back. She feared Everett might have lashed out at them in his anger. Everett suddenly laughed, a harsh, sarcastic sound.
He had clung to a shred of hope,
wanting her explanation, even if it was just a defense, or for her to argue, saying she'd acted out of confusion or anger at him. Even admitting to using contraceptives out of anger would have been something.
But her calm demeanor, her lack of defense, only asking about others and their well-being...
She'd silently confirmed she didn't
want his child, didn't want any ties with him in the future. She was set on leaving him, and her plans for the future didn't include him, he
husband, Everett!
