Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 210

Through the phone, Selena could almost feel the wind howling on the other end. A knot of dread tightened in her stomach, and she practically yelled, "Uncle Brook, don't do anything stupid. I'll handle the money situation. You can't just leave me like Mom and Dad did. I won't forgive you if you do. Do you hear me?" "Selena, I'm sorry..." Brook's voice seemed to drift away as if he had moved the phone.

"Brook!" Selena shouted, her voice fierce. "If you die on me, I won't take care of your wife and kids. Their fate isn't my problem. Once you're gone, our family ties are severed. Do you really want them to end up on the streets?"

Selena dashed to the study as she spoke, grabbed her car keys, flew down the stairs, and jumped into her car, speeding off without a second thought.

Eventually, she found Brook on the rooftop of the Porters Group building. He was slumped on the ground, surrounded by empty liquor bottles. His beard was scruffy, and he was crying so hard he could barely breathe. Tears pricked Selena's eyes. She was terrified of arriving too late and finding a scene like the one with her parents years ago. She couldn't bear to lose another family member.

She approached him, intending to scold and shake some sense into him, but instead, she just hugged him tightly.

Brook kept muttering how useless he was, how he always dragged her down, and how he was just a waste of space.

Selena stayed silent until he had poured out his heart, then helped him up. "Let's go home. I've called Ricky. He'll keep an eye on you. Leave the rest to me."

Brook opened his mouth to protest, but seeing the determination in Selena's eyes, he just nodded dejectedly.

At Bennett Corporation, Everett was in a foul mood, and his angry reprimands echoed from the CEO's office, putting everyone on edge.

Derick, caught in the eye of the storm, was especially jumpy. He was petrified that the slightest misstep, like entering the office with the wrong foot first, might cost him his job.

He figured this had something to do with Mrs. Bennett. Just a few days ago, the couple seemed inseparably in love, causing Everett to neglect his duties. He couldn't fathom what had gone wrong now.

In an attempt to dodge any fallout, he discreetly rang up Jaime for some intel.Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.

After hanging up, Derick let out a long sigh. Apparently, Mrs. Bennett had realized that Everett's affection might not be genuine, sparking the current tension.

In his opinion, Everett had been indifferent initially, but ever since the divorce threat, he seemed genuinely invested in her. Wasn't that love?

Even Ms. Margot never got that much attention from him.

Could it be that Everett was in love without even knowing it?

As Derick pondered, an idea struck when he stumbled upon a news article. He had a plan!

He knocked on Everett's office door and walked in, handing him an iPad. "Mr. Bennett, your wife is in trouble."

As the night wore on, Selena finally returned to her room after Brook had fallen asleep. She had negotiated temporary reprieve with the creditors, promising to presenta repayment plan within three days.

Given her title as Mrs. Bennett, they backed off for now.

She sat cross-legged on the sofa and assessed her uncle's assets on her laptop. The villa, the factory, and some stocks barely amounted to more than a hundred million. They were just a drop in the oceam

She could promptly divorce and use her five percent share of Bennett Corporation as collateral to gather the funds she needed.

Her own savings were even less significant.

But after everything that had happened between her and Everett, would he really be willing to lend her a hand?
