Married At First Glance: I Am Not Ugly

Calling Jessie

The next morning after she woke up, she helped her brother clean up and watched him eat and took his drugs before she left the hospital. When she got home.

As she entered her apartment, she realized how small the apartment had been since but didn’t realize it until she changed the environment.

She went to her room and slumped on her bed thinking about how to start a conversation with Jessie.

She was definitely the last person that Jessie wanted to have a conversation with. But she knew she had to do this to fix Alexander and Jessie’s relationship.

So she called Anderson to get Jessie’s contact.

“Anderson, it’s Marissa.”

“Hey Marissa, how are you doing?” Anderson asked.

“I’m doing good, I need you to help me with something. I need Jessie’s contact.” Marissa said, hoping Anderson will oblige.

“Sure, but why do you need her contact?” he asked her.

Marissa hesitated for a moment, unsure how to answer Anderson’s question. Should she be honest and tell him that she was trying to repair the relationship between Alexander and Jessie? Or should she lie and say that she needed to talk to Jessie about something else?

She decided to be honest.

“I know that things have been tense between Alexander and Jessie, and I want to try to help fix things. I think I can talk to Jessie and get her to see things from Alexander’s perspective.

I know that she might not want to talk to me and I understand how she feels but I want to try anyway. So please help me, Anderson with her contact.” Marissa explained.Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.

Anderson paused for a moment, thinking over what Marissa had said. He knew that Jessie was still upset about the whole situation, but he also knew that Marissa was a good person and that she had Alexander’s best interests at heart.

“I’m not sure if I should do that, Marissa. Jessie is very upset and I don’t want to make things worse.” Anderson said, “But at the same time, I know that you really want to help and that you care about Alexander. So I’ll think about it and get back to you.”

Marissa was relieved that Anderson was at least considering it. “Thank you, Anderson. I really appreciate it. I know that you have Jessie’s best interests at heart too, and I understand why you’re hesitant. But I really think that I can help make things better for everyone involved.”

“I know you do, Marissa. I’ll think about it and let you know what I decide. In the meantime, I’d suggest giving Jessie some time and space. She might just need a little while to cool off.” Anderson said.

Marissa nodded, understanding what Anderson was saying. “You’re right, I don’t want to push her. I just want to help.”

“I know, and I appreciate that. Just give her some time, okay?” Anderson said.

“I will. Thank you again, Anderson. I really appreciate it.” Marissa said.

“It’s no problem. I’m always here if you need to talk. And I hope things work out for everyone involved.” Anderson said with a smile.

Marissa returned the smile. “I hope so too. Thank you for everything. I’ll talk to you soon.”

“You’re welcome, Marissa. Take care and have a great day.” Anderson said, signing off.

Marissa hung up the phone, feeling a little bit better than before. She knew that she couldn’t force Jessie to talk to her, but she knew she had to do this to help Alexander not get affected, especially the contract he had worked so hard for.

Few minutes later, her phone beeped informing her that she had received a message from someone and picked up the phone and realized that Anderson had sent her Jessie’s contact.

So she replied to him to say thank you for sending Jessie’s contact.

Then she took a deep breath as she dialed Jessie’s number. She was nervous, but she had to do this for Alexander.

“Hello?” a female voice said on the other end of the line.

Marissa paused for a moment before speaking. “Hi, Jessie. It’s Marissa.”

There was a long pause before Jessie responded. “Hi, Marissa.” Her tone was cold and distant.

Marissa swallowed hard, trying to stay calm. “I wanted to call and apologize for everything, but I think it’s better we do this in person than on the phone. What do you say?”

There was another long pause before Jessie responded.

“I don’t know, Marissa. I’m still pretty upset.”

Marissa took a deep breath. “I understand, and I don’t blame you. But I just want to clear the air and make things right. Can we meet for coffee or something?”

Jessie was silent for a moment, and Marissa could hear her breathing on the other end of the line. Finally, she spoke. “Okay, I’ll meet you for coffee. But I’m not making any promises about forgiving you or anything like that.”

Marissa felt a wave of relief wash over her. At least she would have a chance to talk to Jessie in person. “That’s okay. I just want to talk to you and try to make things right.”

They decided to meet at a coffee shop near Jessie’s apartment in the next one hour.

Marissa spent the rest of the day trying to think of what she would say to Jessie. She wanted to make sure she said the right things and didn’t make things worse.

Just then, a another call came in to her phone and she checked and realized that it was Alexander calling.

She took a deep breath and picked up.

“Hello.” she said.

“Hi, Marissa. I need to talk to you about something.” he said.

“Sure, what do you have in mind?” she replied.

“I…um… wanted to inform you that I have decided to terminate our contract marriage after the dinner meeting on Monday evening. I know we agreed that after three months, but with the situation of things and Jessie finding out like this, I don’t want to cause more issues than it had already caused.

I hope you understand.” he said.

Marissa felt her heart sink as she listened to Alexander’s words. She had known that this might happen, but it still hurt to hear him say it out loud.

“I understand,” she said, trying to keep her voice from cracking.

“You need to make things with Jessie work out and not destroy your relationship because of me.”

“No, Marissa. This isn’t because of you. None of this is your fault alright. I did this and so I have to fix it so that no one gets hurt in the end.” Alex explained.

“I appreciate you understanding me, Marissa. You really are a good person, Marissa….”he said.

There was silence from both ends as they both didn’t know what to say to each other.

“I have to go now. Take care Marissa.” he said and hung up.

Marissa took a deep breath and left her apartment to meet Jessie as she had promised.
