Married At First Glance: I Am Not Ugly

A Story And Her Brother

Marissa went to the hospital to see her brother and was surprised that he wasn’t in his ward. She rushed to meet the nurse on duty.

“Hello, please am looking for my brother Samuel Preah, that ward over there was his and I went there but couldn’t find him.

Where is he?” she asked, her heart beating as she was scared something might have happened to her brother.

The nurse looked up from her computer screen and gave Marissa a reassuring smile. “Oh, Mr. Preah is doing just fine,” she said. “The doctor took him upstair for a walk and to get some fresh air, that’s all.”

Marissa breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank goodness,” she said. “I was worried that something had happened to him. Where did he take him?”

“He took him to the rooftop garden,” the nurse said. “It’s a nice place for patients to get some fresh air and enjoy the view. Your brother seems to be doing really well, so the doctor thought it would be good for him to get out of his room for a while.”

“That’s wonderful to hear,” Marissa said. “I’m glad he’s doing so well. Can I go see him now?”

“Sure, you can.” But I think they would be coming down any minute, since the doctor has a new patient coming in soon. You can just wait a bit, they should be down any minute now.” she said.

Marissa nodded and smiled as she waited. She was scared that something had happened to her brother. Her brother’s illness was the reason she entered into this mess and now she doesn’t know how to end the mess.

She had fallen head over heels in love with Alexander but she can’t tell him because they were business partners and not a real couple.

And besides, he’s in love with Jessie and can never be in love with someone like her. While she waited, she kept sighing without knowing that the nurse wondered what could be wrong.

She walked up to her and handed her a cup of coffee. Marissa looked up and grabbed the cup with a smile on her face.

“You look like a lot is in your mind. But don’t think too much about your brother’s health. The doctor said, he’s doing really well and his body is recovering faster than we anticipated, I guess maybe because he’s still young, but that’s a good sign isn’t it?” she explained, sitting down beside me.

“It’s a very good sign,” Marissa said, feeling a little better now that she knew her brother was doing well.

“I guess I was just worried that something bad had happened to him and how I would live with myself if anything happened to him.

He’s my only family and my parents entrusted him to my care and so it’s my duty as his sister and only family to take care of him.” she said, sipping the coffee.

The nurse nodded.

“Yes, it’s your duty, and you are doing so well. Your brother got this far because you didn’t give up on him. You risked everything I’m sure to provide the money for his surgery and that’s sacrifice, dear.Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.

So don’t think about anything else and appreciate that your brother is alive and well.” the nurse explained.

She raised her hand and pointed to a young woman who was sitting quietly in the lobby waiting.

“You see that young lady over there, her husband has been in a coma for three years after an accident.

When he was brought in, the doctor on duty that day checked his pulse and then his injuries and realized that it wasn’t going to be an easy surgery.

According to the doctor’s report he had rib fracture, severe traumatic brain injury, a serious lung injury, spine injury, fractured pelvis, spleen damage and more. He was in a very critical condition and had less than a 20% chance of survival.

He was rushed to surgery and the surgery lasted several hours. Afterwards he was put on life support and was transferred to the ICU for further treatment.

It was there that his wife came and stayed by his side every day. She would bring in flowers and her favorite music for him, hoping he would hear it.

It was a long, hard road for her and she never gave up. She always believed that he would wake up.

Sometimes when he had seizures while in that state and the doctor’s would attend to him, she would go to a corner and cry because she felt she didn’t want him to see her cry.

Then she would wipe her tears, put on a smile on her face and then walk back into her husband’s ward to be with him and she would read and sing to him.”

This story was incredible, and Marissa was in awe of this woman’s strength and resilience. She couldn’t imagine going through something like that, and she had a newfound respect for the woman sitting in the lobby.

“What happened next?” Marissa asked, her voice full of emotion.

“After three years in the hospital, his condition began to improve. He started to breathe on his own and was taken off life support.

Then he started to move his limbs and his eyes started to open. Eventually, he started speaking again. It was a long, slow recovery.” The nurse explained.

“But why is she still sitting in the lobby and not inside his ward?” Marissa asked.

“She just sits there sometimes, to think and then she goes back in there and stays with him and they talk.”

Marissa smiled and looked at the young woman sitting in the lobby. Just then she stood up and walked into her husband’s ward.

Marissa sat there thinking about the woman’s story and what it must have been like for her. She couldn’t imagine the pain and heartbreak that she must have gone through, and she felt a deep sense of respect for her strength and resilience.

Just then, she heard footsteps behind her and turned to see her brother Samuel with the doctor.
