Chapter 1932
Chapter 1932
Persephone looked up and nearly burst into tears. “Morpheus…”
“It’s okay.” Morpheus smiled, patting her head. “I’m here. Don’t be afraid.”
Tears streamed down Persephone’s face. She didn’t know how she managed to stand up from that hard, tiny chair. Her whole being felt chaotic, yet she could keenly sense the person beside her, giving her strength and offering reassurance.
“She’s my wife.” Morpheus spoke slowly, his sharp gaze scanning everyone. “We finished dinner, went out for a stroll, happened to be at the dock, and unexpectedly encountered the ship explosion.”
“Is that true?” The officer remained skeptical.
However, the officer who had just entered the room clearly had a higher rank than the one questioning Persephone. Despite his doubts, he didn’t press further.
The officer pondered for a moment, perhaps reluctant, then continued. “Sir, the person in the adjacent room…”
“His name is Seamus Rutherford, my wife’s cousin.” Morpheus’ expression didn’t change. “He’s visiting.”
“Why were you all at the dock?”
“Can’t we be at the dock at the same time?” Morpheus smirked, his hand resting on Persephone’s shoulder, protecting her firmly.
“Is there a law in Flinge that relatives can’t meet in the same place?”
“Well…”
“It’s just a coincidence. We have no connection to that ship,” Morpheus asserted. “And since we were just out for a walk, there was no need to carry identification. If you need it, we can go back to my place for it now!”
“Oh, that won’t be necessary.” The officer outside smiled, patting Morpheus’ shoulder. Their eyes met, communicating everything without words.
“Morpheus is my friend, and I’ve met his wife,” the officer addressed the others. “It’s just an accident.” NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.
Everyone exchanged glances, and Morpheus left with Persephone confidently.
Persephone was still shaken. The image of the ship’s explosion haunted her like a ghost. She felt a chill despite the midsummer heat, shivering several times.
Morpheus took off his shirt to drape it over her, wearing only a tank top, and enveloped her in his strong arms.
“Seamus, Seamus!” Persephone suddenly remembered. “He’s still…”
“He’s out too.” Morpheus’ voice was low. “I spoke to them. They won’t trouble him.”
“You…” Persephone paused. “You spoke to the police?”
Morpheus didn’t reply but glanced elsewhere.Books Chapters Are Daily Updated Join & Stay Updated For All Books Updates…
Persephone frowned. Who could talk to the police like that? Why did they listen to him, and why did they not trouble her when he intervened?
Could it be…
“Flinge is different from other places.” Morpheus turned to face her with an enigmatic look. “It’s a lawless zone where nobody has control. My acquaintance with the police is merely because they like watching me in boxing matches, that’s all.”
“Is that so?”
“Mostly.” He remained nonchalant and watched her pale face, which stirred his heart faintly. “Tonight scared you, didn’t it?”
Persephone involuntarily leaned forward until her head rested against his chest. Listening to his heartbeat, she finally felt secure.
“Let’s go home,” he said with a smile. “I’ll cook you something delicious.”
