Chapter 20 It’s so Melodramatic

Alicia curled up her lips speechlessly. "No, I'm going to sleep with my mom tonight."

After that, she rushed into the bathroom, took a shower, quickly grabbed the quilt and pillow, and went out.

Edmond didn't stop her.

However, when he came out of the shower, he saw Alicia sitting on the bed awkwardly, with a strange look in her eyes.

"Mom was woken up and made me return."

Edmond chuckled, "Why don't you sleep in the living room?"

"You are the one who should sleep in the living room."

"I am a guest."

"You are her son-in-law, a family member."

Edmond heard this, decisively got into the quilt, and lay down. He said elatedly. "Since we are a family, there is no problem sleeping in the same bed."

Alicia felt trapped and gritted her teeth in anger.

"You jerk trap me again!"

Edmond didn’t care.

Not long after they lay down, Edmond’s phone rang.

Edmond picked it up, and Alicia vaguely heard the anxious tone on the other end.

In the dark, she couldn't see Edmond's expression, only hearing his deep answer.

"Okay, I see."

Hanging up the phone, Edmond went out of bed and began to change his clothes into a shirt.

Alicia stared at his hurried figure for a long time and couldn't help asking, "Is it Diane?"

Her voice was light with some hesitation and uncertainty.

Alicia regretted it immediately and secretly scolded herself, “Alicia, you idiot. How can you ask so like a jealous woman?”

Edmond paused for a moment.

Then he tilted his head slightly and answered calmly.

"It was raining heavily in the suburbs. A big tree was knocked down by lightning and hit a passing car. The head of the injured was pierced by the glass and needed urgent surgery."

Alicia was silent for a few seconds and said, "Then go quickly."

Edmond nodded, changed his clothes, grabbed the car keys, and went out.

Alicia looked at the closed door in amazement, feeling a little subtle, and suddenly she laughed and whispered to herself. "It's so melodramatic."

Alicia covered herself with the quilt and tried to sleep.

But she was doomed to have trouble sleeping tonight.

As Melissa woke up the next morning, she saw Alicia doing Yoga on the balcony and asked in surprise.

"Where's Ed?"

Alicia answered calmly.

"There was an emergency patient in the hospital last night and he went for surgery."

Melissa knew it and went to make breakfast herself. After the meal, Melissa filled a pot of porridge and handed it over.

"Send the porridge to the hospital for Ed."

Alicia was about to refuse when Melissa went on.

"Ed always forgets to eat every time when he gets busy. Remind him to eat more when you have time. He never cares about his own health."

Alicia thought Melissa’s words were reasonable.

Edmond always ignored his health, or he wouldn't indulge in sensual pleasure all day and do something that was harmful to his kidney.

Alicia took the thermos bottle to the hospital by some strange coincidence.

It was not the first time that she had been in Edmond's hospital. When Melissa went to the hospital for surgery, Alicia came frequently.

But today was the first time Alicia went to see Edmond in person.

Alicia asked a nurse at the counter about Edmond. The nurse’s gaze fixed on the thermos and she asked Alicia with a polite smile.

"Are you also here to deliver lunch to Dr. Agos?"

Alicia immediately knew that she was definitely not the only woman who came to deliver food to Edmond.

Alicia hesitated and thought maybe she should come back, while the nurse went on. © 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.

"Dr. Agos has been in surgery for almost ten hours, and it's estimated to come out soon. You can sit over there and wait."

Ten hours?

Edmond hadn't slept at all since last night and kept operating, right?

Alicia felt that it was cruel to leave after knowing the fact, and finally, she went to the bench and sat down.

There was a girl with a youthful look at the other end of the bench. She seemed like a college student, who lowered her head and played with her mobile phone.

Alicia sat down across two empty seats beside the girl. After a while, she heard the girl click on the voice message.

A friend's excited voice came from the loudspeaker.

"Lauren, come on! Seize the chance of dating Dr. Agos later and win his heart! Sis, I will pray for god to bless you! "

The girl didn't expect her friend to say so. She blushed, turned down the volume, and wanted to make sure whether anyone else heard it, but as soon as she turned her head, Alicia’s meaningful smile came into her sight.
