Chapter 3244 Marine Corps
"How on earth could so many of you let Garrett escape under your noses?"
At the Martial League, Matthew, who had panda eyes, was in disbelief when he heard the crown prince's report. Even with the Stormbringer and the escort ships around, who could believe that Garrett could still escape unscathed?
Noticing the disbelief in Matthew's eyes, the crown prince scratched the back of his head. "Gadel is as slippery as an eel. He wasn't on the main ship but rather on the escort ship, hiding. We managed to recover all of his ships, yet he had already been ejected from the bay. Rest assured, he won't pose much of a threat without Garrett around."
Shaking his head, Matthew rose to his full height. Then, at the sight of the crown prince's anxious look, he guided the man back to the seat. "Shawn, I need a break. Please handle the matters here for me."
At that, the crown prince turned his gaze to the towering stack of paperwork on the desk, feeling a mix of frustration and resignation. He could handle them, but he disliked it.
Noticing Matthew's fatigue, the crown prince then reluctantly sorted the files, trying to comprehend what the Martial League needed. Meanwhile, Matthew went to lie on a bench on the other side of the room.
He rested on a thin blanket that was spread over the bench, too tired to even move it. Lately, the responsibilities of matters including the Martial League had overwhelmed him and drained him. The recent upheaval involving Montiria, Garrett, and the financial tycoons had also left him worried about resources.
Looks like handling the Martial League is making me so swamped that I don't have time for myself. It doesn't help that Sasha has returned to Montiria, a place where I'm banned, thanks to Gloam Division ruining my reputation with their interference.
Matthew's exhaustion led him to slowly close his eyes, leading the crown prince to lower his voice.
...
The afternoon gave way to the evening, with the sunset spilling through the window, causing a soft glow on Matthew's cheeks.
Waking up from a peculiar dream, he opened his eyes as his eyelashes fluttered.
In the dream, Matthew dreamed that he had found Sasha but couldn't approach her. Each time he tried to move forward, she would retreat. No matter how hard he tried to close the gap, it never worked-she would always move backward to maintain it
He then glanced at the wall clock, which read 5:30 p.m.
At the same time, the crown prince noticed Matthew waking up but was caught aback by what he saw.
"Are you crying, Boss?
Matthew touched the corner of his eyes when he heard this, only for his fingers to feel damp. Oh, dear, I cried in my sleep. "It's nothing," he claimed. "My eyes teared up because of the bright sun."
The crown prince glanced at the setting sun and at Matthew's expression, feeling doubtful. You
might be able to trick others, but et
don't you think you can pull the wool
over my eyes with such an excuse!
Both men were unsure what to say, causing the room to fall into a state of silence. It was only broken by the sound of knocking at the door.Property © NôvelDrama.Org.
"Lecarres Summit Warden, someone is here to see you, claiming to be a friend of yours."
"Okay, I'll be right there." Matthew then got up from his seat, only for the crown prince to follow suit, explaining, "I'm coming along!"
The crown prince jumped from his seat, eager to follow Matthew.
Matthew was helpless. The crown prince looked like his expression would darken if he prevented him from following. With a resigned sigh, he relented and suddenly found himself missing Leanna after her long absence.
"Alright, let's go, you brat."
