Chapter 19
I scowled at his question.
“Sorry. Are you the husband?” He reiterated a different question.
“Yes.” I answered with no second thoughts.
He then gave me a huge grin. “Congratulations, Mr. Di Angelo. Your wife is pregnant.” My eyes bulged from their sockets.
Holy shit. That was not what I had in mind.
I immediately shook the feeling away, not forgetting my concern towards her. “Is she okay? Why does she look so pale and thin? Why did she vomit? How far along is she?” I bombarded him with questions I thought I could never ask because of the shock. I was so worried for her and the news of her pregnancy overwhelmed me to the core.RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only
Doctor Rogers gave me a soft smile. “She’s about 9 weeks pregnant. It’s normal for pregnant women to have morning sickness although not all are like that. Her symptoms are quite severe but it’s only normal so you don’t have to worry. You could bring your wife to my clinic to check her and the baby for an ultrasound.”
I was still stunned at the news. I didn’t know what to say anymore.
“Once again, congratulations, Mr. Di Angelo.” We then shook hands.
“Thank you so much, Doctor Rogers. I’ll see you in your clinic for the ultrasound then.” Leo walked him out and made one of my men drive him back towards his clinic. It’s the least I could do for suddenly pulling him out of his work just prioritize my woman.
I went inside to check up on Hailynn. She was sitting on the bed, her back against the headboard, her legs were under the quilt. I noticed she was staring into space.
“Amore.” I beamed.
“Stay away from me.” I froze. Her eyes suddenly filled with contempt and it was all directed to me. “This is your fault.” Her tone was filled blame and venom.
I was stunned at her sudden reaction.
“Amore, what are you saying?” I tried to suppress my growing anger at her blatant disrespect towards me. I was still elated at the news. I don’t want to ruin it just because of one of her pregnancy hormones.
I sauntered towards her. I flinched when she screamed. “Don’t come near me, putain de bâtard! Get out!” She then threw one of the pillows at me. I caught it instead of dodging it. “Get out, Dante. I don’t want to see your face.”
“Calm down, amore.” I was already feeling frustrated. “What you are doing is not good for the baby.” Hell, I don’t even know what’s good and bad for both mother and child.
“Calm down? How can I calm the fuck down when this is all your fault! I don’t want this child, Dante. I don’t want this life. And I certainly don’t want you!”
It was silent for a moment. The only thing I could hear was my aching heartbeat. The conviction in her voice threw me off. I stare at her, eyes full of pain and sorrow. It reflected what I’m feeling right now.
The last time I was hurt this much was when Uncle Domenico died, my second father. I don’t think I could bear to feel what she just said.
“Right. Of course.” My eyes roam randomly, maybe as an excuse not to give away what my soul truly felt. Words suddenly flowing out of spite. “Tell me when you’re ready. We could see someone who could get rid of…” I couldn’t continue, much less think about it. “For now, rest. You’re exhausted, amore.” I said softly. My demeanour softened. I was tired too.
I didn’t look at her when I left. I couldn’t bear to see her or the state she’s in.
I didn’t know when it happened but somehow, I managed to care for her in just a short amount of time. I didn’t know that this lust could be something more. I realized that when I knew that she’s going to be the mother of my child.
But that’s just wishful thinking now.

“What are your plans now?” Leo asked as we walked to the garden located at the back of the mansion. He suggested going for a walk and calming down by getting some air.
I just noticed that the whole lot was huge. There was a pocket forest a couple of meters away further than the garden. A huge lawn was in front of the mansion, a wide pathway in between.
I inhaled. “She hates me. She doesn’t want the child either. I guess the only option is to abort the child.” I sighed exasperatedly.
Hailynn was on bed rest. It was hard for her to do even a simple day to day activity without getting a headache or feel nausea. It clenched my heart to see her like that but I couldn’t comfort her, not when she detests me right now.
“Maybe you should give her some time. With all the sudden pregnancy news and her hormones, of course she’d react that way.”
“And what if she did feel that way. After all I’ve treated her, she despises the hell out of me, Leo.”
“Time, fratello. You two created a wonderful thing together, a child, your heir… with both of your genes. If you decide to let him or her go, I swear to you, fratello, you will regret it. Remember family comes first. If she doesn’t want your child, then take responsibility.” His words hit me. Just when I succumb to giving up.
Leo has always been sincere with a lot of things. He was calm but he wasn’t always serious. He has cool composure and is the opposite of me who has a short temperament.
“This is one of the reasons why I chose you, my second in command.” After everything that happened, I finally smiled. He just makes everything better and this is why I trust him the most.
Leo was simply Cara and I’s long lost brother. I’m sure I would miss him if he chooses to go on with the mafia. But he will have Cara’s side and that itself is a strong reassurance for me.
He shook his head. “You know you have no choice. We practically grew up together.” I chuckled at his joke. “Hey, I’ve already scheduled a doctor’s appointment for Hailynn. I hope you two won’t consider any way involving getting rid of him… or her.” His hand was patting my shoulder. “But I’m pretty sure it’s a he.” He grinned.
