Chapter 7 

Madelyn gently pushed the door open. Andrew was still sleeping. He had lost so much blood from last night to today, after all. No matter how strong he was, his body wouldn’t be able to handle it. Didn’t he care about his life?

She cautiously approached the bed. Seeing that the IV drip was almost finished, she bent to get another bag. Before she could straighten up, Andrew grabbed her wrist.

It turned out he was already awake. He looked at her icily, which scared her. She said, “Your IV drip has almost finished. I was just going to switch to a new one.”

Why was he looking at her like that again? Had something else happened? She tried to think about what could’ve gone wrong, but her memory failed her because she hadn’t cared about Andrew in her past life. She couldn’t remember much about what had happened to him.

The tension thickened. Madelyn knew things were taking a turn for the worse when she saw the look on Andrew’s face. He wasn’t in a good mood, which affected her. She barked, “Who do you think you are, coming to see me? I’m your uncle’s wife!

room. Easton’s breathing grew heavier on the other end of the line. It was especially audible in the silence.

Madelyn saw Andrew’s expression become uglier. She was about to hang up to continue appeasing him when Easton said, “He’s threatening you, right? Don’t worry, I’ll send you abroad as soon as possible.”

At that, she couldn’t help glancing diffidently at Andrew. Then, she forced the words out through gritted teeth, “You and Elena make a good match. Can’t you understand simple words?”

Easton fell silent. Was it because he was shocked by her bluntly exposing his and Elena’s relationship?

Madelyn struck while the iron was hot and snapped, “Don’t think I don’t know what you and Elena are up to. If you dare scheme against me and manipulate me in the future, I won’t let you two off the hook!”

Then, she hung up with Andrew watching her silently. When she realized that the phone call hadn’t done anything to clear the air, she felt even more diffident. “Darling, let’s change the IV drip first, okay?”

Andrew still didn’t look happy, but he released her. She was relieved to see that he wasn’t throwing a tantrum anymore.

After the incident with the medication being tampered with, Madelyn was ultra- careful when handling anything to do with Andrew. She was afraid of even the slightest thing going wrong. She checked the IV drip repeatedly before changing it.

Once she was done, she turned away with the empty IV bag in hand. Andrew said. behind her, “You’re not allowed to see him in the future.”

She turned back and met his dangerous gaze, feeling a little conflicted. It was precisely this hesitation that made Andrew’s expression darken again.

Damn it. It had barely been five minutes since she had appeased him!

Madelyn leaned against the side of the bed and looked at Andrew innocently. “Don’t get me wrong, darling. I swear I won’t see him! He’s the one who’s bugging me.”

“You’re not allowed to see him!” he said commandingly.

“You don’t need to!” Andrew would personally deal with Easton.

Madelyn didn’t dare aggravate Andrew because of his wound, so she said, “Alright, alright. I won’t seek him out, and I’ll make sure he can’t come in if he does come to

see me.”

She could only go along with Andrew for now. She would do everything he said.

The dangerous glint in Andrew’s eyes faded when he saw how obedient Madelyn was. She turned away again, but he grabbed her wrist.

“What now?” She turned back around. She had already agreed to his request. Was it not enough for him?

Andrew said, “I want you to sleep with me for a while.”

Madelyn fell silent. His words made her instinctively tremble. The maids had already cleaned up the room, so there weren’t any traces of their activities that morning. Still, the memory was etched into her mind.

She sat by the bed and said, “How about I accompany you like this? Now, hurry up and go to sleep.

Seeing that she wasn’t getting into bed, Andrew’s gaze darkened again. She hurriedly got in and lay with her back to him, feeling the heat from his chest. She didn’t dare move, afraid that she would tug on his wound.

“Aren’t you sleepy?” Andrew asked. He could tell how tense she was.

Madelyn hurriedly said, “Of course, I am. I’m super tired.”

Too many things had happened in one night, and she was exhausted. Warmth enveloped her as she lay there, and she slowly relaxed. When she eventually fell asleep and sank into a dream, she felt like her soul had been tugged out of her body.

In her dream, she saw Elena linking arms with Andrew and dragging him into a bedroom. His gaze was tender as he watched her. Then, the scene morphed into that stormy night at the cliff’s edge. It was as if this dream was a farewell to her past.

“No, don’t…” Madelyn had somehow turned to snuggle into Andrew’s warm embrace. Her mumbling awoke him. He looked down to see tear streaks on her face.

She opened her eyes bleary and met his gaze. Her tone was still tinged with despair as she called out, “Darling…”

Andrew stiffened. Then, he placed a warm hand on her back. He didn’t do anything else, but it was enough to make her feel secure. With a sigh, he said, “You’re the one who’s always wanted to leave me. When have I ever not wanted you?”

Madelyn started crying, her body twitching as she did so. He hadn’t wanted her in her past life and had opted for such an extreme method to leave her behind. No one knew how hopeless she had felt at that moment. She even wanted to kill Easton and Elena but couldn’t.

“Tell me, Maddie. Things had always been great between us, and you said your wanted to marry me when you grew up. Why did everything change later?” Andrew asked. It was a question he had wanted to ask for years.

Madelyn was abandoned at a hospital’s entrance. She was just a newborn then, and Andrew had been eight. He begged his parents to bring Madelyn home because he adored her.

He kept her by his side since she was three, even bringing her to school with him. They grew up together. Why did she start distancing herself when she turned 16? She even started hating him.

A few broken scenes flashed through Madelyn’s mind at the mention of her change in attitude. A trace of sorrow flashed in her eyes. “It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have. believed Elena’s words.”

Now that she had seen Elena’s true colors, she wouldn’t defend her anymore.

That year, she was ten and Elena was 16. Elena met Andrew at Athena’s birthday celebration. After that, the Garcia family suddenly came knocking, claiming that they were Madelyn’s real family.

Madelyn had thought it was a lovely reunion between family members, but it turned out they only thought of her as a stepping stone for Elena to get close to Andrew.
