Madelyn forced herself to smile as she walked up to them. Grandma, Mom, Mr. Rivera said that you’ve been waiting for me for quite a while. You must have been getting anxious!”

She walked over to Athena and took her arm affectionately.

Athena tried to pull her arm away silently, but Madelyn

tightened her hold on it. “I went to buy your favorite blueberry pastries just now, Grandma.”

“I was also going to go and get your favorite roasted chicken, Mom, but it was taking too long, and I was afraid that I

wouldn’t make it for lunch.”

Did Madelyn really think that they had asked her back for lunch?

All the maids present looked askance at Madelyn. Didn’t she realize that she was doomed?

Athena’s face puffed up in anger.

Beside her, Grace looked rather sinister as she called out sternly, “Maddie.”

When Madelyn heard Grace’s stern voice, she looked up and met Grace’s ice–cold eyes.

She let go of Athena and went over to Grace instead. Grace was sitting ramrod straight, and she looked very forbidding. However, Madelyn blithely slid into her arms. “Are you angry about the report from yesterday? I’m sorry that I made a

mistake!”

She was humbly admitting her wrongs. However, was this. something that could be solved by just admitting that she was

wrong?

The air seemed to become colder, and everyone’s hearts.

Grace looked menacingly at Madelyn. Madelyn held on to

Madelyn lowered her head further. “Mom, didn’t you always tell me that if I’m ever being harassed by a man I don’t like, I should just beat him to death? Am I not allowed to hit him just because he’s my husband’s nephew?”

Grace and Athena exchanged glances, looking confused. Clearly, something that they didn’t know about had also happened last night.

Grace looked at Madelyn again. “What on earth are you talking

about?”

Madelyn took a deep breath and looked up tearfully at Grace, who felt a sudden, piercing pain in her heart.

Before Madelyn could speak, Carrie’s figure appeared on

television She was speaking passionately about the kind of maddening love that came with youth. At the same time, she spoke sharply about the need for correct morals.

On the screen behind her, scenes of Madelyn beating Easton up were shown.

Athena and Grace could clearly see the fierce look on Madelyn’s face and Easton’s contorted expression.

Everyone present gasped.

Madelyn was shocked to see how ugly she looked in the report.

“W–What’s this?” Athena looked at the television, then at Madelyn. She was so shocked that she could not speak.

Grace looked down in surprise at Madelyn, who was in her arms. Madelyn’s eyes were shining, and she looked perfectly

innocent.

Grace looked back at how fierce she had looked while beating Easton up, and she had trouble accepting it for a long time.

When she saw how Grace’s stare had frozen, Madelyn murmured, “Was it really wrong of me to beat him up?”

Grace clapped a hand to her forehead. “Maddie.”

“Yes?”

Madelyn felt that one had to be a bit of a shrew to beat someone up. How could she do that while being elegant? Couldn’t Carrie have picked parts where she looked better, though?

She couldn’t bear to look at herself either.

“Oh. Well, can I hit him or not?” Madelyn looked innocent, as if she had accidentally made a mistake.

She had neatly sidestepped the reason why Grace and Athena had called her back.

From the report and the snippets of the surveillance footage, it was clear to see that Easton had been harassing Madelyn. Provoked to anger, Madelyn started beating him up.

Athena and Grace also realized that Easton hadn’t come back that night. Had he been beaten up so badly by Madelyn that he was in hospital?
