Love's Redemption

Redmption 97

Redmption 97

Chapter 97

“Yes. There are issues with the lighting.” While I was explaining, Bree had already walked over to the scaffolding where Brandon was working.

“Young man, why aren’t you wearing a safety harness? What you’re doing is dangerous. Safety always comes first.” As the chairman’s wife, Bree spotted an issue immediately.

Brandon had actually been wearing a safety harness, but he had taken it off when he climbed down earlier. He didn’t wear it again as he went up just temporarily.

“Yes, we’ll be careful.” I then called out to Brandon. “Why did you go up without your safety harness? Come back down now.”

Brandon climbed down obediently and admitted. “That was my mistake. I’ll be more careful next time and won’t do it again.” NôvelDrama.Org content rights.

He looked like a young boy who had made a mistake and was sincerely owning up to it. For some reason, I felt like I had been too harsh on him.

Bree looked at him. “Safety rules are there to protect you. You owe it to yourself to follow it. You can only love others when you love yourself first, don’t you think?”

Even though Bree wasn’t actively involved in the business, she spoke with wisdom and guidance befitting a chairman’s wife.

Somehow, to me, her words carried an additional insinuation.

“I understand, Mrs. Gildon,” Brandon replied politely.

“Working all morning must have been tiring. I brought lunch for everyone, please have some.” Bree’s tone softened into that of a caring mother.

Brandon thanked her and went to eat. As Bree watched him walk away, she remarked, “That young man seems strong and handy.”

I understood the implication behind her words. She viewed Brandon as a mere laborer. Last night, Chris had been the one expressing his disdain for Brandon. Today, it was Bree’s turn.

I finally realized the purpose of her visit. She must have heard something from Chris and came to see Brandon for herself.

“He’s the engineer in charge of all lighting works.” I clarified.

However, as the chairman’s wife who had met all sorts of influential people, she just gave me a faint smile.

“You must be hungry. Let’s have lunch in the office. We can talk while we eat.” Bree suggested warmly.

“Okay.” I agreed.

When we reached the office, the driver had already set up the table beautifully with all my favorite food.

I was certain it was different from what Kara and the others were having.

“Thank you, Bree.” My voice was filled with gratitude.

“This was the only way to see you since you won’t come home,” she said as she gestured for me to sit. “Dig in, or it won’t taste as good when it gets cold.

I didn’t hold back and started eating.

“Slow down.” Bree laughed at my enthusiasm.

“It’s so good,” I replied, playing along. I wasn’t being insincere. I’d just grown accustomed to behaving this way after living with the Gildons for so long.

It made everyone happy, so why not?

“Maddie, is there really no hope left between you and Chris?” Bree finally asked.

I froze for a brief second before nodding.

Bree sighed. “It’s his loss, and a loss for Zack and I.”

“No, Bree. It’s my loss.” I felt a wave of sadness.

As I lowered my head to drink some soup, she continued, “Even though you and Chris won’t be together, I still hope to pair you with a good man.” with a good man.”

She couldn’t be hinting at me and Conrad, could she?

“Bree, I’m not interested in getting into another relationship.” I quickly interjected, cutting off any further suggestions.
