Redmption 82
Redmption 82
“What’s going on? Why are we taking a break?”
I rushed over to Brandon, demanding answers.
“Two days off a week is mandated by the government. Given our tight schedule, taking one day off shouldn’t be a problem, right?” Brandon’s question. left me speechless.
I tried to keep my anger in check. “Mr. Howell, you’re right, but we’re on a tight. deadline. I’ve already said we have a final deadline. Can we postpone the break. and focus on meeting the deadline first? I can pay you extra for the overtime.”
Brandon looked at me intently. “It’s not about money. We aren’t machines, we need regular rest. Besides, rest is essential for better work performance.
I knew he had a point, but our situation was special.
I took a deep breath and tried to adjust my tone. “Mr. Howell, is it absolutely necessary to take a break today?
“Yes,” Brandon said firmly, and I turned to leave.
Then he added, “You all need to rest today too.”
I was enraged. I turned to look at him. “Mr. Howell, it’s enough that you rest. Don’t worry about us.”
Kara, who was watching from the side, stifled a laugh. Yet Brandon remained calm. “Ms. Crown, if you don’t rest well, you can’t work well either, just like last night-”
“Brandon!” I cut him off, my palms sweating.
This jerk was really pushing it. I’d just told him not to mention last night, and he almost did.
I stared at him and finally gave in under his steady gaze. “Fine, we’ll rest. We’ll take a break too.”
“Kara, let’s go!” I called Kara.
Ms. Crown,” Brandon called after me, “I need your help today.”
The anger in my chest was building up, ready to explode at any moment. I gritted my teeth. “What now, Mr. Howell? Do you need a massage or a back rub on your day off?”
“That won’t be necessary. I need to buy some things and I need Ms. Crown to guide me,” Brandon said casually.
I almost laughed. “Fine, have Ms. Spraggins accompany you-”
“I want Ms. Crown to go with me!” Brandon interrupted.
Kara, who had been holding back, finally couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
This made me laugh too. Where was the aloof and stoic Brandon now? He was acting like a three– year–old, so childish and immature.
“Mr. Howell, you’re not a child. Don’t you think this is too… much?” I teased.
Brandon wasn’t embarrassed at all. “I’m unfamiliar with this place. What’s wrong with you helping me? Besides, you previously-”
“Fine, I’ll go!” I interrupted him again because I knew what he was about to say.
If I refused, he’d bring up the Amaty incident, and I couldn’t let Kara know about
that.
“Can I come along?” Kara would not want to miss this opportunity.
“Sure!”
“No!” RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only
Brandon and I spoke at the same time, me agreeing and him refusing.
Kara looked at me, then at him, confused. Brandon spoke up, “It wouldn’t be convenient for Ms. Spraggins to come along. Am I right, Ms. Crown?”
He was putting the ball in my court again.
Seeing his look, I knew if I insisted on bringing Kara, he’d mention the past.
Indeed, one couldn’t tell a lie, for a single lie required a hundred more to
sustain it.
Finally, I turned to Kara. “It’s your day off. Why don’t you spend it with your boyfriend? He must miss you too.”
Kara glared at me, upset that I mentioned her boyfriend in front of Brandon.
I ignored her. Brandon’s stern gaze forbade her from coming any closer. Finally, she left reluctantly, looking back every few steps.
I was certain she had become suspicious about my relationship with Brandon. That was something to deal with later.
For now, I had to handle the man in front of me.
