Redmption 61

Chapter 61

Derick nodded and walked into the amusement park as I followed right behind him. Content (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.

“Why did you leave the group?” he asked.

“It was a group chat for you guys, and I don’t say anything in there anyway. With me around, you guys have to be so cautious of what you have to say.” I was telling the truth. They used to throw around dirty jokes here and there, but Chris had always reminded them of my presence.

His exact words back then had been, “Watch what you guys say. My girlfriend is here.”

I remembered re–reading the word “girlfriend” countless times, feeling overjoyed

“You’re pretty thoughtful,” he said. His words brought me back to reality.

I didn’t reply. He stopped in front of a scooter and asked, “Can I try this out?”

“Go ahead.”

The moment I gave him the green light, he actually got onto the scooter and began to zoom around.

“Hey! This is pretty fun.” It was as if he had suddenly become a three–year–old.

I stayed silent as I watched him play. After turning a couple of rounds, Derick finally asked, “Are you really giving up on Chris?”

I leaned against the railing and said, “I’m allergic to cheaters, remember?”

He turned another round before rolling up next to me. “Don’t you think letting go would be doing someone else a favor?”

“I’ve always been open to charity.”

He laughed at my reply and stopped the scooter. “Do you know what everyone talked about after you left the group chat yesterday?”

“I don’t want to know,” I replied straightforwardly.

Derick went ahead and said it anyway. “They all said you let go much too easily,

and it meant you never loved him enough in the first place.”

I nodded slightly. “Probably.”

“Do you know what Chris did when he saw that?” Derick asked, looking at me calmly.

I thought about it for a second before saying, “Did he leave the group?”

He gave me a thumbs–up. “You guys are a perfect match when it comes to that.

“Well, a red rose is the perfect match for him now.” The moment I said that, Kara jogged up to me.

“Ms. Crown, our food is here. Do you want to eat now?”

I looked at Derick. “If that’s all you wanted to say, feel free to play around for a bit. I’m going to have my lunch.”

“Go ahead. I’m going to revisit my childhood,” he said. He sometimes acted like a child, but he was also the closest to Chris.

That was why we were also close, and he didn’t try to talk me out of my

decisions. All he did was ask me what I thought and told me what I needed to know.

“You really are unforgiving when it comes to pissing people off, Maddie!” Derick called out from behind me.

I turned around. “What?”

“I can’t believe you liked his story! What a queen!” he said, giving me another thumbs–up.

I smiled mildly. “He posted it for me to see. I have to let him know I saw it.”

While eating, Kara tried to dig for gossip. “Ms. Crown, is that the person Mr. Gildon sent to get you on his side?”

“No. He’s just here for a random chat. Don’t think too much about it. Even if the president himself came, he wouldn’t be able to help Chris‘ case,” I said,

causing Kara to sigh.

“You’re really good at cutting off ties, Ms. Crown. I would have given in,” Kara said.

“Everyone’s different. We all have things we’re good at,” I said as I poked at my meal. I had no appetite and was even beginning to feel a little bit nauseous.

At that very moment, my phone rang with a call from Mr. Lachy. He said the lighting technician was here.

I asked Mr. Lachy to bring the lighting technician in before forcing some food down my throat. Even though I wasn’t hungry at all, I knew I would need to energy to run around the amusement park while working later.

However, Mr. Lachy entered with the lighting engineer before I was done with my food. I looked up and froze in shock when I saw who it was.
