Love's Redemption

Redmption 254

Redmption 254

Bree hadn’t mentioned that Chirs and Jewel would be joining us. If she had, I definitely wouldn’t have come. It wasn’t that I was afraid to face them, but their presence was definitely affecting my appetite. “Maddie, you’re here. We’ve been waiting for you,” Bree said cheerfully as she greeted me with a hug

a gentle

It was hard to refuse Bree’s kindness, so I forced a smile and replied, “Bree, I thought it would be just us.” “Well, it was just us… They… Bree pouted toward Chris and Jewel. “I ran into them unexpectedly.”

I didn’t believe they had run into each other by chance, I wasn’t a child anymore. I knew better than to believe that.

But if I left now, it would only make Bree uncomfortable and make me seem unable to handle the situation.

So, I mockingly responded, “What a coincidence.”

“Sorry for disturbing you and Mrs. Gildon,” Jewel added.

If they knew they were intruding, they should have just left instead of sitting there so comfortably.

When I first met Jewel, I genuinely thought she was as sweet as she looked. But now, I had a clear understanding of how much she could pretend.

I didn’t bother to be polite. “If I’d known you were coming, I wouldn’t have come.”

Jewel’s expression faltered slightly, and Chirs’s face darkened. He then asked, “Can we start serving the food?”

It was then that I realized Bree’s comment about waiting for me wasn’t just a formality.

However, it was quite awkward that Jewel, Bree’s future daughter–in–law, was left sitting there while Bree didn’t even serve any food.

“Go a

ahead and serve the dishes, including the orange juice,” Bree said as she led me to sit next to her.

With a stern face, Chris signaled for the waiter to bring out the food.

‘Maddie, you’ve gained some weight recently. Your hands are plump. Bree observed closely.

I had recently gained two pounds, all thanks to Brandon. Normally, I should have been heartbroken and losing weight after a breakup.

Thinking of this, I smiled and replied to Bree, “Yes, I’ve gained weight. But it’s because I’m in a good mood, eating well, and sleeping soundly.”

A clinking sound came from across the table as Chris’s cutleries clattered onto his plate. I saw Bree glance at him before saying. “It’s thanks to Brandon taking good care of you.”

Bree’s sharp words seemed targeted. Now, I even wondered whether Bree was my biological mother. When it came to me and her son, she was clearly on my side.

I smiled and pressed my lips together. Bree then asked, “Is Brandon free? If he is, he should come too. The more, the merrier.”

“Mom!” Chris retorted, his voice stern.

Before I could respond, he said, “You love the grilled fish here. Would you like to order it?”

“Yes,” Bree replied without hesitation. “Maddie loves it too.” Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.

Jewel’s delicate face became even paler. But this paleness was tinged with a reddish hue, a result of being ignored and pricked at by Bree’s sharp words.

The sight was genuinely pitiful. Yet, there was often something to despise in those who were pitiful. Everything that had happened was her fault.

Though I had moved on from my past with Chris and had no reason to target Jewel, I could see that Bree clearly disliked Jewel. Her sharp remarks were evidence of that.

Chris ordered the grilled fish, effectively cutting off Bree’s invitation to Brandon. In reality, I knew that Bree wasn’t genuinely inviting Brandon. She was just using him to provoke Chris.

As the food arrived, two glasses of orange juice were served. With four people in the room, Chris didn’t like the sweet drink, but there was Jewel. That made for an awkward situation.
