Love's Redemption

Redmption 242

Redmption 242

I received Brandon’s message half an hour later. “Goodnight, girlfriend!”

I couldn’t help but wonder what he might have been doing in that half–hour. Perhaps he was taking a cold shower to cool off, just like in novels.

Thinking about the abrupt halt earlier made me too embarrassed to reply. I had a restless night, likely because I didn’t take a cold shower. It felt like something was crawling inside me.

The phrase “the gate of desire, an insurmountable chasm was something I had now experienced firsthand.

I slept poorly and restlessly, so I woke up early. But no matter how early I got up, it was never earlier than Brandon. He was already out for his morning run. His energy and stamina were truly impressive.

With such vitality, he had to be quite vigorous in intimate situations too. I felt as though I was under a spell, unable to stop thinking about that aspect…

This was all Lisa’s fault. She gave me such terrible advice last night. Thinking of this, I ignored how early it was and sent a message to Lisa.

“Are you hungry? Get up and join me for breakfast.”

I had the oatmeal from last night, but I was hungry now from overthinking all night. Normally, if I told Brandon, he would prepare breakfast for me. But today, I thought it best to avoid him.

I felt a bit petty, but I couldn’t help it. After more than 20 years of living, last night was my first experience with such things. Although nothing actually happened, I almost wished something had.

I found it increasingly embarrassing. I wondered if other couples would feel the same way after reaching, the final step, waking up feeling like this. I sighed. I was becoming more and more useless.

As soon as I sent the message, but before my fingers had even left the keyboard, Lisa’s video call came through. © NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.

“Well, looks like last night didn’t go as planned,” Lisa teased as soon as she connected.

I

“If it weren’t for you, would I be hungry this early?” I shifted the blame onto her.

Lisa, who was dressed in a white lab coat, was lounging on her break chair. “What happened last night? Spill the beans. I need a pick–me–up.”

I rolled my eyes. “Dr. Carline, do you have no medical ethics?”

“Feel free to attack me, but don’t insult my sacred profession,” Lisa said, poking the screen.

“Treat me to a meal, and I’ll tell you everything.” I got up. “You’re at the hospital, right? I’ll come find you.”

Lisa yawned. “Sure. Bring me some scrambled eggs and toast.”

Got it, Dr. Carline.” With that, I ended the call.

I sighed and went to the bathroom. Looking in the mirror, I was surprised. Despite a rough night, my complexion looked surprisingly good.

My face was pale but flushed, and my eyes had a glimmer. It was strange.

1 thought, “Shouldn’t I be sporting dark circles? Is this what they mean by being refreshed by love?”

I quickly washed up and changed clothes, then quietly opened the door. I planned to slip out without disturbing Brandon. My plan was perfect.

I managed to lock the door and go downstairs. I let out a sigh as I approached the car. Just then, Brandon’s voice cut through the early morning fog.

“Where are you going so early?”

I froze, tightening my grip on the car keys. Without turning around, I quickly said, “I’m going to see Lisa.”

As soon as the words left my mouth, I heard Brandon’s steady, powerful footsteps behind me. I instinctively started to move faster, trying to get away

But I couldn’t outpace his long strides in the end. Brandon stepped in front of me, his dark eyes locked on mine.

“Are you not feeling well? Is something wrong?” His voice was tense, filled with concern.

I couldn’t meet his gaze and simply shook my head. “No, no. It’s just that Dr. Carline’s on duty and hungry. I’m taking her some food.”

A few years ago, this excuse would have been perfectly reasonable. But now, with the advent of food delivery services, one could get whatever they wanted with a tap of their phone. Hence, there was no need to trouble someone so early in the morning.

Brandon wasn’t foolish, and he naturally knew I was lying. He simply said quietly, “I knew you would try to avoid me.”

I was taken aback and looked up at him.
