Love's Redemption

Redmption 226

Redmption 226

Brandon looked puzzled. “Hmm?”

I stepped closer to him, so close that I could smell the soap from his recent shower. It had a pleasant

scent.

I remembered how, back when my parents were alive, our home always used bar soap for washing hands and bathing. Nowadays, people mostly used hand sanitizer or body wash, and it was rare to even smell the fragrance of bar soap.

“Are you wearing a disguise?” I asked, probing him.

Brandon furrowed his brow and glanced at himself. “How much have you had to drink? You seem off.”

I had only had one drink, but he noticed it.

His response made me smirk as I reached out and tugged on his shirt. “Brandon, stop playing dumb. I’m not talking about your clothes. I’m asking if you’re hiding something about your identity. Are you extremely wealthy? Maybe even a hidden big boss?”

Brandon’s jaw tightened. “I don’t understand what you’re saying.”

He started to step back, trying to distance himself from me.

“Do you not understand, or are you pretending? Or is this all just an act?” I pressed, intentionally lingering

close.

Brandon said nothing. He just watched me as I stared back at him.

Under the dim light in the stairwell, our gazes locked in a silent confrontation.

Flashes of the small courtyard where Ellie lived crossed my mind, along with thoughts of her illness and my first impression of Brandon. Eventually, I looked away and chuckled. “You’re so poor, it couldn’t be you.

As I spoke, I let go and turned to head back to my room. However, Brandon stopped me and asked, “Did you drive yourself?”

I laughed. “No, I had a chauffeur.”

With that, I then playfully added, “I value my life and don’t want to endanger society.” NôvelDrama.Org copyrighted © content.

The coldness in Brandon’s eyes softened a bit as he reached out to pat my head. “Good.”

The gesture was reminiscent of soothing a child. I blinked at him. “Brandon, I envy Ellie.”

Brandon asked, “Why?”

I smiled slightly. “She must have been very cherished by you.”

Brandon’s gaze grew more intense as he took my wrist and guided me into his room. “Let me make you some tea.”

I wanted to decline, but his warm hand was so inviting that I found myself following him back into his room. I really couldn’t resist temptation.

Before long, he had prepared a cup of tea for me. I noticed it was in a cartoon cup featuring a cat’s head. This was clearly a cup meant for girls. But Ellie wasn’t here…

“Whose cup is this? I don’t want to use someone else’s stuff,” I said, both deliberately and as a test.

“It’s yours. I bought it just for you.” Brandon’s words made my heart skip a beat, and my cheeks flushed.

I sipped the tea, and its sweetness gave me a feeling of being cherished.

“In the future, don’t drink alcohol alone. It’s not safe,” Brandon said.

“I was with Derick. I told you before that nothing would happen with him around,” I explained honestly.

Brandon’s expression darkened slightly, and he remained silent.

I took another sip of the tea and then heard him ask, “Do you really trust him that much?”

“Yes, he has always been good to me. He treats me like a sister.” I gently touched the cup.

Brandon didn’t respond. Then, I thought about Eden, whom I had met tonight. “Guess who I had dinner with tonight?”

“Not Derick?” Brandon’s tone was slightly off.

I didn’t dwell on it and said, “I also had dinner with Eden, Arthur’s son.”

Brandon’s expression immediately darkened. “What are you planning to do?”

I hesitated, wondering whether to tell him that Eden had agreed to take me to see Arthur.

Before I could decide, Brandon said sternly, “Madeline, I know what you’re trying to investigate, but don’t get involved. I will handle it.”
