Redmption 192
Redmption 192
To speak without thinking my words through was a big mistake.
I realized how inappropriate those words were as soon as they escaped my lips.
Brandon responded just as I was finding a way to take them back, “Okay.”
Had he just agreed to it?
Wasn’t he going to hesitate? Shouldn’t he reject the offer to save his pride as a man?
Even if Brandon was fine with the idea of being my man, he should have refused to borrow my money. Yet he showed no intention of doing so.
I figured that he must really need the money and desperately wanted to cure his sister. The thought made me sympathize with Brandon, who had always been tough and strong.
The pang of sympathy was unsettling. I cleared my throat lightly, “Have you taken your sister to a doctor? Give me a copy of her medical records. I can get someone to check it out.”
“Okay,” he agreed again.
I stood up. There was nothing more to say. “Thank you for today. I’ll get going.”
He looked at me. “Call me if you feel unwell.” Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.
“Sure.” I smiled. I sighed in relief as I turned away.
Being cared for was surprisingly stressful.
When I got home, I leaned against the door trying to steady my breathing and emotions, but my phone, started ringing. I walked back to my room and found that it was a call from Chris.
I had no idea why he called, but just the thought of him made me sick.
The call disconnected. I noticed there were over twenty missed calls, mostly from Chris with a few from
Gordon.
No doubt Gordon’s calls were at Chris‘ behest.
Chris must have something urgent to say, given how persistent he was. When he called again, I picked up. “Hello?”
“Maddie, where are you? I miss you.” Chris‘ voice was laced with pain. It was clear that he was drunk
I remained silent. He chuckled bitterly. “Right, you’ve dumped me.”
I said nothing still. Chris called out my name softly. “Maddie, are you sure about that? We’ve been together for ten years. You’ve always loved me…”
So Chris knew. He had always taken advantage of my feelings for him, hadn’t he?
“Maddie, say something. Tell me, is it really over between us? Can’t we get back together?” I heard something shattering as Chris spake.
It seemed that he was indeed drunk, so I refused to hear any more of his nonsense. “Chris, I’m hanging up.
He stopped me. “Don’t! Madeline, will you feel hurt if I end up with Jewel?”
A cruel question to the core.
He was twisting the knife in my heart.
any pain?”
I solemnly said, “Chris Gildon, would it take me to die like lan for you to feel
The line went silent as if the call had been cut off, but I knew he was still there.
I didn’t hang up either. I brutally exposed the truth Chris had been avoiding.
I could tell that he must be in agony. I could almost see him writhing in pain. But he deserved all of it. No pain could compare to death.
“So you know…” Chris spoke in anguish after a long silence. He then hung up.
I held onto the phone for a long time while listening to the dial tone. My heart felt like it was plummeting.
I couldn’t sleep well that night. The memories I shared with Chris flooded my dreams, from our first meeting to our ten years together.
Our past rewound like a movie that replayed in my dreams all night long.
