Redmption 166

Chapter 166

I wanted to have shaved ice, my favorite treat. Brandon, however, frowned upon seeing my order.

“Not a fan?” I teased.

“Not exactly the healthiest choice,” Brandon commented.

I smiled mischievously. “Wow, Brandon. You seem to be quite the expert on women’s health. Is this really your first time dating?”

“Yes,” Brandon affirmed.

I pouted and shot him a look which said I didn’t believe him.

“Well, I do have a sister, so I’ve picked up a thing or two about women’s health.” Brandon’s words caught me off guard, and my hand paused in its movement.

A sister? This was news to me. Suddenly, a melody popped into my head–how many good sisters do you have?

As if reading my mind, Brandon added, “We share the same parents. We’re related by blood.”

I retracted my gaze and took another bite of my shaved ice. “You never mentioned her before.”

Just never found the right opportunity to bring it up,” Brandon mumbled as he took a bite of my dessert. He frowned immediately after.

Clearly, he didn’t like it, just like Chris. He used to preach about how these icy treats were detrimental to one’s health.

Recalling this memory, I felt upset. “If you don’t like it, no need to force it down. You can order something else.”

“It’s okay. It’s just a little cold.” Brandon looked at me. “Eating something so cold at night might not be the best idea for your stomach.”

I stayed silent as a way of protesting. Brandon seemed to get the message and didn’t press the issue any further. We finished the shaved ice quietly.

“Maddie?” A familiar voice, tinged with surprise, sounded behind me.

Turning around, I saw Derick. A young woman with flawless makeup was holding his arm.

“Hello, Derick,” I greeted.

“Enjoying some shaved ice all alone?” Derick asked as he hadn’t noticed Brandon,

Before I could answer, Brandon put his spoon into my bowl and scooped up a portion of my shaved ice. It’s a little too cold. You shouldn’t have too much,” he said.

Derick’s eyes widened as they darted back and forth between me and Brandon. He clearly wanted to ask what was going on.

Remembering how Derick was related to Chris, I smiled slyly. “Actually, I’m here with my boyfriend.”

As I spoke, I wrapped my arm around Brandon’s. He nodded subtly in Derick’s direction without hesitation.

“You?” Derick finally managed to get a good look at Brandon, and he finally recognized him. They had met before at the amusement park the last time.

Brandon nodded again, but he remained silent.

But Derick was shocked and shook his head in disbelief. “No way… Maddie, what’s going on here? Tell me.

“There’s not much to explain. I have a boyfriend, and we went to the Gildon estate to visit Zack and Bree just now.” I wanted to show Derick that we were serious.

“This… This is all happening a little too fast, wouldn’t you say?” Derick sputtered.

I scoffed silently. Compared to Chris, who had already gotten together with Jewel before we even broke up, wasn’t I going slowly?

“Remember when you encouraged me to move on, Derick?” I countered.

Derick scratched his head sheepishly and chuckled. Alright, alright. I knew you were tougher than you looked: You bite.”

His gaze shifted to Brandon, and then he mouthed to me, “Well done.”

I knew Derick supported me in leaving Chris. He had always sided with me when it came to my relationship with Chris. He was a really good friend.

“Alright, you two enjoy your dessert. Bring him to hang out with me sometime. Let’s see what he’s made of,” Derick said. He then left with the young woman.
