Love's Redemption

Redmption 128

Redmption 128

Chapter 128

I was puzzled about who was pranking me when I got other calls about rings. and wedding arrangements.

It wasn’t until then that I realized this was more than just a prank. When I

asked who was behind these orders, I discovered how crazy Chris really was. NôvelDrama.Org © 2024.

It

was all him.

I knew he wasn’t the type to play childish pranks, so I called him, suspicious of another possibility.

“Chris, what are you trying to do? We’ve broken up. Why are you ordering wedding dresses and rings? Are you trying to disgust me?”

“Don’t think I’m that petty and childish. Didn’t you think I didn’t care about you? Didn’t you doubt my love for you?

“Let’s get married right now. That should prove I only want to be with you, right?

Chris‘ words only deepened my disappointment.

“Chris, do you think loving someone means making her wear a wedding dress and a ring? Do you even know why I broke up with you?” I asked furiously.

He paused for a few seconds. “Isn’t it just because of Jewel?”

“Yes!” I admitted. “So, how do you plan to deal with her?”

He fell silent and reluctantly replied, “I’ll cut ties with her and get her out of the company. Is that enough?”

His tone was so begrudging.

“And then, you’ll hide her somewhere else, like a kept woman?” I mocked.

Chris snapped, “Madeline, that’s enough! How can you be so unreasonable? I’ve mentioned this before. Jewel is pregnant and alone. She’s having it tough. How can you not have a bit of sympathy?

He was fierce and growling.

I moved the phone away from my ear, not wanting him to damage my eardrum.

Chapter 128

Even so, I heard Chris‘ angry voice on the phone. “Madeline, you’re a woman, too. What if it were you? How desperate and helpless would you have been if my family hadn’t taken you in when your parents died?”

“Taken in?” His words felt like a sharp knife stabbing my heart.

So, in his eyes, I was just an abandoned child, and his family had kindly offered me shelter.

“So, your kindness to me was just out of pity, right?” My voice trembled.

Chris was silent for a few seconds, then said, “No. That’s not what I meant.”

“Chris, I don’t need your pity. Give your love and affection to whoever you want. Once, I was an orphan, and you bestowed your feelings on me out of pity.

“But now, Jewel is the one in need. Go love her instead,” I said.

I bit my lip hard, feeling as if my whole body was drenched in icy water.

It didn’t matter if our love had changed or his feelings had shifted. The world, changed every second, and so did people and hearts.

But the realization that his past kindness was fake and was born out of pity hurt me deeply.

“Madeline, you’re being unreasonable. You know that’s not what I meant,” Chris argued.

“Chris, it no longer matters. Please, stop bothering me, okay?” I was exhausted.

This post–breakup entanglement was mentally and physically draining.

Chris scoffed coldly, “Madeline, you are mine! I will never let you go, and you have no right to say no.

His domineering words made me realize he simply couldn’t accept being the rejected one.

But I had made up my mind. No matter how much he kicked up a fuss, I wouldn’t have turned back on my word.

“If you don’t mind making a scene, go ahead,” I said before hanging up.

As always, the call with Chris drained me completely. I trembled uncontrollably and didn’t notice when Lisa came up behind me.
