Redmption 12

Chapter 12

His expression stiffened slightly. “Given the situation last night, I was afraid something might happen to her. You know lan was his parents‘ only child.

Now, Jewel’s baby is their entire hope. If anything were to happen…”

I understood his unfinished sentence.

“So, from now on, anything related to her will always be your priority, right?” I asked coldly.

Chris was silent for two seconds. “Things will be different once the baby is

born.”

I started to laugh. As I turned, the newly risen sun stung my eyes.

“Chris.” I looked at him. “There will be other problems after the baby is born. The baby might get sick or have accidents. As long as you use this child as an excuse, you and Jewel will always be in some kind of entanglement, and I will always be the one you abandon.”

Chris fell silent at my words.

I made my stance clear. “Chris, if we get married, I don’t want my husband to be taking care of another woman every other day.”

‘Madeline, give me some time. I’ll sort this out.” Chris‘ eyes showed signs of inner conflict.

“What is there to sort out? She’s someone else’s wife. Even if she needs care, you shouldn’t have to take it this far. And…” I paused. “You weren’t lan’s only close friend. There’s Derick and a few others. Why are you the only one so involved?”

His emotions were evident on his face when he replied, “Because I was the only one with lan when the accident happened.”

Hearing the pain in his voice and thinking about his guilt and remorse after lan’s death, I asked, “Chris, did you do something to betray lan?”

“Madeline,” Chris called my name coldly. “Do you really have to dig into this?”

“Yes, because it’s affecting me no… I pressed my lips together. “Chris, since Content (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.

wife, let’s break up.

“This way, you won’t have to be torn between me and Jewel. Besides… you’re not interested in me. Why make things hard on yourself?”

As I said this, I realized how deeply his words from that day had hurt me.

“Madeline!” Chris‘ anger peaked. After a moment, he coldly asked, “Do you really want to break up? Are you sure?”

“Yes, I’m sure,” I said firmly.

“Fine, don’t regret it,” Chris stated before he turned around and threw the white

roses into the trash can.

After he left, I stared at the discarded white roses, my eyes stinging with tears.

He had told me not to regret it.

Those three words revealed his true thoughts. He probably believed that I

could never leave him, which was why he felt he could hurt me over and over again.

Although things between Chris and me had fallen apart, I was still his

assistant, so I had to continue working as usual. But now, my work included wrapping things up and handing over my responsibilities..

I didn’t immediately resign because I wanted to finish the projects I was working on, especially the amusement park project.

This project was my suggestion. It meant a lot to me.

Before my parents passed away, I was a happy girl. My parents doted on me and took me to amusement parks all over the country every year. Dad even said he would build an amusement park for me one day. Unfortunately, they died in a car accident, leaving me an orphan.

A year ago, Chris acquired a new piece of land. When discussing what to do with it, I suggested building an amusement park. To my surprise, he agreed and put me in charge of the entire project.

For this, I was grateful to him. He allowed ne to fulfill Dad’s wish.

and I would ride the Ferris wheel together, and I would tell my parents not to worry about me anymore–I was doing well, loved, and cared for.

But now, it seemed that this wish of mine wouldn’t come true.
