Chapter 55
“Don’t be mad, Heather. It’s not worth getting upset over an imposter,” Ethan said, his voice filled with soothing warmth,
“But Ethan, what’s really happening here? You need to explain things to us so we can start figuring out a strategy together. Your know, three heads are better than one.”
Ethan sat down, his face serious, pondering for a long while before he began to speak. “Layla and I, we’re the president of
Aerionia’s kids.”
“The President’s children?” Heather was slightly surprised but didn’t want to wake Lola, so she tried to suppress the shock inside
her.
“Yes. Layla is the youngest in our family and the most cherished. Jenna, her twin sister, was the one who arranged for Layla’s abduction and made her disappear.
“You know the rest, about how Layla was found by the Mitchells. Now, about the person outside, I’d bet it’s Jenna. But her reasons, or what’s going on back in Aerionia, I’m just as in the dark as you are.
“I think the real Layla’s disappearance has something to do with Jenna, so I plan to return to Aerionia to investigate.” Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
Ethan voiced his thoughts, wishing he could investigate non–stop to find Lola as soon as possible.
Jenna had long since abandoned any feelings of family love, her eyes fixed solely on profit.
“Betray her own blood for personal gain? What a monster!” Heather seethed, her anger mixed with deep concern for Lola’s safety.
Dominick’s veins throbbed on the back of his hand as he realized Lola had been suffering from the very beginning, betrayed by her
own sister.
He harbored a murderous intent towards the woman now asleep in the next room. Any threat to Lola was a target for his wrath!
Ethan, noticing Dominick’s thoughts, gently shook his head. “Hold on, don’t do anything reckless. If she really is Jenna, killing her won’t help us find Layla. And if we’re mistaken…”
“There’s no mistake,” Dominick said with certainty. “She can’t be Lola.”
Lola, though no longer the naive and carefree little girl she once was, still carried a hint of purity. But the woman before them, her eyes clouded and distant, couldn’t possibly be Lola.
“Let’s do it this way. We shouldn’t alert the enemy by acting rashly. I’ll go back to Aerionia to investigate the current situation and find out why Jenna is impersonating Layla in Talondria. You stay here and deal with her. If you can find out Layla’s whereabouts, that’s great. If not, make sure you don’t blow your cover.
“Right now, the enemy is in the open, and we’re in the dark, which is good for our investigation.”
Dominick’s face was stone–cold. He couldn’t stand being around this despicable woman.
She bore Lola’s face, yet her actions were something Lola would never do.

Just thinking about it made him want to destroy that face!
She didn’t deserve to use Lola’s face for such vile deeds.
“Dominick, I know this is hard for you, but think about Layla. She must be going through a lot right now. We need to work together effectively.”
Ethan patted Dominick’s shoulder, his eyes filled with trust.
But the reality was much harder than they imagined.
Dominick, still asleep, suddenly sensed someone approaching. In an instant, he was fully awake, his eyes deep, betraying none of the grogginess of someone just waking up.
“You’re up?”
Lola seemed to have been there a while, standing at the doorway and watching him. A smile spread across her face as she saw him, a hint of flirtatious in her eyes.
“Did you sleep well? I had a great sleep last night, very sound. It really is more comforting being by your side,” Lola said, moving towards Dominick.
Dominick’s eyes narrowed slightly, his stance distant though he remained silent.
“It’s good that you slept well.”
His words seemed innocuous, but the indifference in his tone was palpable, laced with a subtle detachment.
Lola’s smile faltered, but she quickly recovered, then she walked over with a smile, unable to hide her shyness in her eyes.
This expression, combined with Lola’s beauty, was irresistibly charming. Yet, all Dominick felt was a coldness rising within him.
The more she used Lola’s face to display these artificially shy expressions, the more he couldn’t help but want to kill her.
In a daze, Lola was already sitting before him, perched on the edge of the bed, her eyes shyly meeting his.
“We’ve been at odds recently, and it’s affected our relationship. But I’ve come to realize that, since you’re in my heart and I’m in yours, why don’t we just be together properly? What do you say?
Dominick was stunned for a moment.
It would be wonderful if these words truly came from Lola’s mouth.
She said she still held him in her heart and spoke of them living well together in the future.
These were the words Dominick would trade anything to hear.
But the reality was, these words were spoken by another woman.
Dominick couldn’t fathom what this woman, assuming Lola’s identity and wearing her face, truly wanted.

Getting close to Ethan was beneficial to her, but it seemed like this woman was putting all her attention on him.
Dominick’s eyes narrowed slightly, his deep gaze revealing nothing of his emotions at the moment.
Such a risky venture surely had a significant purpose.
“Dom? What’s on your mind? Do you think…we can’t be together anymore?”
Lola’s eyes couldn’t hide her despair, and she looked down as if about to cry.
“No. I just woke up. Not in the mood.”
70%
That was all Dominick could manage. He struggled to find sweet words for a face that looked familiar but wasn’t the person he
knew.
Hearing this, Lola smiled faintly, “I just knew you wouldn’t turn me down. Life’s too short, you know? We should make the most of it. Now that we’ve found each other again, let’s not waste this chance. I’ve let go of the past. How about we start fresh? Let’s get married again, starting today.”
‘Forgive? Remarry? What gives you the nerve to even suggest that?”
A flicker of coldness passed through Dominick’s eyes as his lips curled slightly. He was intrigued to see what this woman was really playing at.
Once he figured out her game and knew where Lola was, Jenna would not be let off the hook.
“We’ll do as you say,” Dominick responded with few words. He should have been pleased upon hearing this, yet he wasn’t.
Lola couldn’t help but feel puzzled, hesitating as she looked at him.
Dominick flashed a warm smile, adding a touch of charm to his appearance.
Lola’s doubts faded, and she suddenly leaned in, pressing against Dominick’s chest. “Dom, then should we…”
Her hand moved up Dominick’s waist, inching higher. Her words trailed off, but her intentions were clear,
Dominick furrowed his brows, finding such intimacy hard to accept. Yet, he was aware that showing too much discomfort could blow his cover!
