Chapter 22
The night was silent, wrapped in solitude.
Dominick sat in the backseat, his eyes quietly observing the world outside the window while Ellie’s words echoed in his mind, haunting and relentless
“I don’t know what she’s been through, but she was a mess. Wounds crisscrossed all over her arms, her flesh was turned inside out, and there was blood everywhere. Some wounds locked to be self–inflicted, others as if they were made with some object. She begged me not to tell you!
“I don’t know what kind of grudge you hold against her, Mr. Sinclair, but I hope, for the sake of her once being your wife, that you won’t hurt her!”
“Has there been any word on Brenda?”
Dominick looked up coldly at Henry in front of him who was busy driving.
Henry hadn’t expected Dominick to suddenly mention Brenda. He paused, then said, “I’ve searched everywhere possible. After Brenda left Sinclair Manor, she just vanished, as if someone deliberately erased her traces”
Dominick narrowed his eyes, speaking coldly. “If we can’t find Brenda, then we start with the people around her. It’s been two years. She must have
contacted someone.
“Sure.” Henry nodded in acknowledgment.
Two years earlier, Lola had been abducted. Brenda maliciously concealed it, leading to Lola being forced to jump off a cliff. Except for an anonymous video sent to the police, everything else seemed off. The video was sent by a local photography enthusiast who had originally planned to capture the sunrise but instead stumbled upon that scene.
Fearing that he would get involved, yet feeling a pang of conscience, he eventually sent the video he captured to the police.
The dark, leaf–strewn courtyard carried an air of desolation, and it felt strangely cold even in the summer.
Dominick thought about how this place once brimmed with life.
His visits had grown rare due to Jessica, but whenever he came, he would always find her there. Sometimes, she’d be a busy, diminutive figure in the kitchen, wearing a peaceful smile. Other times, she’d be absorbed in a book in the yard, her delicate features bathed in sunlight, radiating purity and
sweetness.
At times, she’d be on the balcony watering the plants, focused and camest, occasionally looking up to offer him a warm smile.
Dominick touched his chest, feeling an emptiness there, as if nothing could fill it again. A dull ache lingered, not like a wound’s pain, but more like the feeling he had when he was abandoned by his birth mother at seven years old and returned to the Sinclair family….
The next day, Anna and Henry pushed open the office door and walked in. Looking at the person seated at the back, they remained silent for a long
while.
“What’s the matter?” Dominick looked up coldly at the t
two people before him.
After exchanging glances, Anna bravely stepped forward, hesitated for a moment, then slowly took out a document and handed it over. “It’s from the court. It says that due to the breakdown of your relationship with your wife, the court has decided to annul your legal marriage.”
With a snap, Dominick’s pen broke in half in his hand.
Blood dripped onto the document on the desk, blooming like flower blossoms as it spread.
Dominick’s gaze quietly settled on the document for a long time before he finally reached out to take it.
Filing for divorce in court was clearly Lola’s doing, and the court ruling in favor of the divorce without notifying him was obviously due to Ethan’s influence. To this day, Dominick had not figured out Ethan’s true identity
At that moment, Dominick suddenly felt as though the little girl who used to follow him around no longer belonged to him…
In the pitch–black night, two dark vehicles sped along the road.
“Ms. Lewis.”
Lucas, sitting in the passenger seat, glanced back at the woman resting behind him.
“Our severe blow to the Sinclair Group has already cost them around 200 million dollars. But strangely Dominick merely had the incident suppressed and the news blocked. Not only did he
refrain from retaliating against us but he even dug into his own pocket to cover the losses.”
Lola slowly opened her eyes, gazed out the window, and suddenly smiled, “What is that, compensation!”
Lucas didn’t respond.
Rumors said that Dominick was cold and heartless, a man without a soul. He was known to be ruthless in the business world and even went as far as eliminating his own brother to seize control of the Sinclair Group. But this time, no matter how they attacked, he maintained an attitude of complete compliance.
It seemed more like…he was deliberately spoiling them!
“Heh!” Lola scoffed coldly, then her eyes turned icy as she asked sharply.
“What about the Moore Group?”
“The Moore Group isn’t like the Sinclair Group. Its several clothing companies and real estate holdings are practically paralyzed, suffering heavy losses. It’s likely they’ll seek shelter under the Sinclair Group, or perhaps… They consider an alliance through marriage with the Sinclair Group to jointly counter us,” Lucas said.
Lola was about to say something when the car ahead suddenly braked hard, and she was thrown against the front seat
Steadying himsell, Lucas frowned and looked ahead. The dark road was suddenly illuminated by several bright headlights, making it as bright as day. A group of well–trained men in black descended from the vehicle, striding towards Lola’s side with a menacing air.
“Who are you?”
Eric and Brian, who were in the car ahead, had already stepped out to intercept, but before they could get close, they were stunned to the ground by stun batons wielded by the approaching men.
Lucas‘ expression changed abruptly as he urgently instructed the driver to reverse. Just as the driver took a step back, two SUVs suddenly sped up from behind, blocking their way. Lucas‘ face darkened. He pulled out his phone only to find that it had no signal.
“Ms. Lewis, stay in the carl Lucas yelled at Lola, then swiftly opened the door and shouted at the driver, “Lock the doors!” This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org: ©.
Perhaps due to the successive kidnappings, Lola seemed numb, or maybe she no longer knew what fear was. She quietly looked up, observing everything outside the car window.
She watched as Lucas and a man in black fought each other. It seemed the assailants weren’t after Lucas, Eric, and Brian’s lives. They simply restrained them on the ground. A tall, backlit figure walked slowly out of the crowd towards Lola.
He wore a black trench coat and leather boots, his hair tips and refined facial features barely discernible due to the backlight. Lola couldn’t see his face clearly, but there was something vaguely familiar about him.
“Is it you?”
Lucas blinked in surprise at the sight of the person walking toward them,

The man approached Lola with steady footsteps. He stopped in front of the car door, and for some reason, the locked door suddenly opened on cue Pulling the door open, the man looked down at the woman sitting inside, her face calm as ever,
“Lola, I’m taking you homel”
