Love Redux: Fated to the Handsome Doctor

Part 106 # Sowing and Reaping

Miriam’s steps hurriedly traversed the corridor to reach the elevator on the west side of the building.

“Damn!” Her slender fingers busily searched for the contact of a travel agent to call. Miriam had to leave the country immediately. Unfortunately, her cell phone signal didn’t support her mission, so Miriam decided to postpone it until she reached the main lobby.

“Hello?” Miriam finally managed to contact her acquaintance. “Prepare a ticket to Washington for me tonight, at-”

“Dr. Miriam Rajapatni?” Someone suddenly interrupted her conversation on the phone. Miriam was surprised, half-distracted. Her mind wandered to the destination she was supposed to reach that evening.

“Who the hell are you?” Miriam asked, raising an eyebrow. She felt she didn’t know the men in front of her wearing T-shirts. Three muscular men with an athlete’s build. They looked out of breath, as if they had just chased a ghost or a criminal trying to escape.

“I’m Detective Ragas, you need to come with us to the police station to give a testimony,” the muscular man with a mole on his cheek said to Miriam.

“W-what?” Miriam took a step back, truly not expecting that there were police officers trailing her. “Y-you’ve got the wrong person!” Miriam immediately turned around and headed for the emergency staircase. She went back up to find another way out of this hospital building safely without being chased by the police.

“Get her!”

“Roger, Captain!”

The atmosphere in the hospital lobby became chaotic, with many people surprised by the soap opera-like chase in the treatment area. Many people were curious or even recorded the chase and uploaded it on the internet.

“Damn!”

Miriam ran quickly towards the emergency staircase. Her heart was pounding fast, not expecting that her escape attempt would be detected by the authorities so quickly. After all, Miriam had just planned to flee abroad again after being caught by Shanon.

“That crazy woman! How dare she!” Miriam cursed angrily, imagining how her cheerful afternoon turned into misery when Shanon’s men dragged her from Canada to return to Indonesia.

That afternoon, Miriam was relaxing and about to watch a music performance at her favorite cafe when the large men finally caught her and abducted her on Shanon’s husband’s private jet. They took off to Jakarta in a short time, and that’s how Miriam had to plan her escape again because she knew she was a key witness in Lara’s case.

“A key witness? I could be charged as Seno’s accomplice. Damn it!” Miriam growled, continuing to run in another direction. She remembered there was a secret passage usually used by nurses to transfer VIP patients so they wouldn’t pass through the main lobby.

“Right! That corridor!” Various thoughts raced through her mind. Miriam even forgot about the existence of that secret corridor!

Miriam hurried towards the secret corridor. Her heart beat faster and faster. Every step she took was accompanied by excessive fear and worry. In her heart, Miriam regretted her action of escaping from the director’s room earlier.

“What if Dad already knows that there’s an undercover agent on duty? Damn!” Miriam cursed herself endlessly, but it was too late! She had to take responsibility for her conscious choice, and that’s what she was doing: fleeing as much as possible, as fast as possible.

“Stop!”

The police officers were still trailing behind her, trying to catch Miriam and interrogate her at the local police station. However, they lost sight of Miriam in the blink of an eye. The police officers didn’t expect that a doctor could run so fast.

Miriam continued to run until she reached the secret corridor that required a special fingerprint key. Miriam-as a former high-ranking official-of course had special access there, but she had to be quick. After opening the door to the corridor, she had to close it tightly.

“You won’t catch me!” she whispered to herself, trying to keep calm. Finally… click! The green light came on, indicating that the door had opened. Miriam’s fingerprint could still be used!

Without hesitation, Miriam jumped into the secret corridor and quickly closed the door. She knew that no one would chase her in here, at least for a while.

But the calmness only lasted for a moment. Shortly after, the sound of loud footsteps echoed in the corridor. The police had found Miriam’s trail and were now trying to chase her into the secret corridor.

“She’s here! Don’t let her escape!” Detective Ragas shouted to his team.

But Miriam could breathe a sigh of relief. No one could enter this secret corridor. While the police needed time to unlock the door, Miriam could escape freely from the building.

“Damn fools!” Detective Ragas cursed as he pounded hard on the door.

“Now what?” one of his subordinates asked. The captain just shrugged, thinking for a moment. But a woman’s voice broke the tension among them.

“I’ll help you, gentlemen,” she said coldly as she walked towards the door. And… a moment later, the iron door handle could be opened!

“Y-you?”

“Shanon Ramsey Kennedy, the new owner of this hospital. Please continue your exercise,” she said with a smirk.

“Let’s go! Hurry! Thank you!” Detective Ragas and his team immediately chased Miriam back into the darkness of the secret corridor. But Shanon then flicked her finger.

“You might as well wait for her to come out through another door, more efficient, right?” she offered.

The captain’s feet stopped abruptly. “Really, is there a secret exit?”

“Of course!”

“Alright! Restu, Pandu, you chase after that doctor, I’ll wait at the exit door!”

“Roger, Captain!”

Meanwhile, Miriam continued her escape, trying to find a way out of this hospital. She knew that the police wouldn’t give up easily, and she had to move fast before they found her again.

After wandering through hidden corridors, Miriam finally found the exit door. Dim light from outside greeted her, giving her hope that she would soon be free.

“At last!” Miriam cheered! But when she opened the door, to her surprise… Miriam was greeted with a sight that shattered her dreams and future.

“W-what?!” Her body froze, unable to move. Before her, Detective Ragas stood with his gun raised, ready to shoot if Miriam tried to escape from him, once again.

“You can’t escape the law, Dr. Miriam. It’s time to be accountable for all your actions.”

“D-damn! ARGH!”

Detective Ragas calmly took out handcuffs from his left pocket, ready to secure Miriam and take her to the police station.

“Bravo! Bravo!” Applause resounded as Detective Ragas led Miriam to the police car. Shanon Kennedy seemed to lead the line of spectators intentionally to humiliate Miriam.

“Look at this, Miriam. You’ve sown what you’ve reaped. Enjoy the prison, my dear!” Shanon exclaimed with a cunning smirk on her face.

“Bastard!” Miriam cursed and struggled as she was dragged into the police car. She never thought her plans all along would be in vain. Amidst the crowd, Miriam could see her Papa’s face turning away when they locked eyes.

“Dad ….” Miriam whispered, but she no longer saw her Dad’s face, only his retreating back. “Dad! Don’t leave me! Dad!” Miriam lost control even more, but the police still dragged her until she was forcibly put into the prisoner transport vehicle.

Miriam’s apprehension operation immediately went viral on social media.

Lara-who was already in Andre’s apartment-found out after being sent a link by Mahya. She never thought that Andre’s former fiancee would meet such a tragic fate. Lara felt sorry, but… the law had to be upheld.

“You will truly reap what you sow, Doctor,” she murmured softly. Lara then contacted Andre to ask about his whereabouts. She couldn’t wait to hear the complete story from her lover. However, her efforts seemed to be in vain because… it was Shanon’s voice that answered her call.

“Hello?”
