Chapter 20
Samuel glanced at the incoming call but didn’t answer immediately. Once the screen went dark and the call ended, he called back.
The call was quickly answered by Ellana Foster.
“Your father’s birthday is next werk. Are you coming back?
“I’m not sure,” Samuel responded vaguely. His eyes narrowed slightly but revealed no emotion.
“You haven’t been back for three years. Your father may not say it, but he’s thinking about you. Even a phone call would be nice. It’s not right for a father and son to be so estranged”
Samuel flicked the ash from his cigarette and remained silent.
Eliana knew that Samuel disliked discussing such topics, so she quickly changed the subject. She said, “Since you and Natasha have confirmed your relationship, we should arrange a time to meet the Green family and officiallydiscuss your future together.”
Samuel pinched the bridge of his nose in exhaustion. “We can discuss it then. There’s no rush.”
“You’re not in a hurry, but I am I want a grandchild. Since you finally want stability, it’s best to settle things early and have no worries,” Eliana said, eager to see things move forward. “You’re not getting any younger. Don’t make the lady wait too long. You need to take the initiative.”
Samuel responded with a vague acknowledgment but didn’t give her a direct answer. Then, he adjusted his collar and felt iccitated as he recalled Shelmaine’s comments from earlier.
He said, “I have other things to take care of. I need to go.”
“Samuel?”
The call ended, and Samuel put on his coat and lett.
He drove around aimlessly, and the cool evening breeze made him feel even more restless,
Without realizing it, he found himself near Shelmaine’s studio
Samuel had been here a few times before when they were still married, but he had never gone up because Shelmaine had always refused to let him…
Samuel had never inquired further about it either, so he didn’t know which floor she was on-
He parked by the roadside and looked up at the brightly–lit building. Then, he absentmindedly smoked while reminiscing about their divorce
Shelmine had been so unwilling to even glance at him and had left him without a second thought,
It was what he had hoped for. Yet, he felt an unexpected emptiness.
Just as Samuel was lost in thought, he noticed Shelmaine’s figure emerging from the building. She was dressed casually with her long hair cascading down–she was a natural beauty
But she wasn’t alone there was a man in a suit walking beside her.
Shelmaine seemed distracted and nearly twisted her ankle. Fortunately, Trevor caught her in time.
After steadying herself, Shelmane thanked him.
“It’s nothing “Trevor said. Then, he asked in concern. “You still don’t seem well. Are you sure you don’t want me to drive you home?
“No, it’s fine. I don’t want to trouble you. I live nearby, so I get there soon,” shelmaine replied.
Trevor then advised her, saying, “Don’t worry too much. While work is important, you still need to take care of yourself too.
“Alright. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome. Here comes the car. You should get in.“Trever, ever the gentleman, held the door open for Shelmine.
After giving some instructions to the driver, he said, “You can go now.”
The car soon pulled away, and Shelmaine leaned back in the seat and closed her eyes to rest. Her fatigue was evident
After a while, the driver cheerfully remarked, is that your boyfriend? He seemed very concerned about you.”ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
Shelmaine opened her eyes in confusion and didn’t respond
The warm–hearted driver continued, “You’re both a good–looking couple.”
“No, he’s not my boyfriend.” Shelmaine simply said.
