Chapter 10
Chapter 10 Leaving
“Jake?”
Sienna didn’t know Jake and Gwen’s actual relationship. She just felt that Gwen’s presence was starting to annoy her.
“Just let Ms. Lawson leave. Mom and Dad are still waiting for me to take you home for the gathering. It’s been a long time since we last got together–they’ve missed you a lot.”
Her soft voice snapped Jake out of his trance.
The Halls needed to make amends for the Charleses out of guilt. It was true that Jake needed to visit Sienna’s parents out of respect.
But Gwen didn’t seem to be affected even after hearing Sienna’s words. It was as though everything in Jake’s life had nothing to do with her anymore.
Jake felt quite stuffy on the inside. Mixed feelings were all he felt at the moment.
“It’s over there.”
Gwen turned to look in the direction that Jake pointed with his tilted chin. Only then did she see her ID being, pressed under a water cooler.
The fact that he mistreated her ID like that made her feel as though she had been mistreated and abandoned as well.
“Thanks.”
Gwen suppressed the bitter feeling as she headed over to pick up her ID. After that, she left without any hesitation. She could feel a cold gaze being pinned on her back the whole time.
The moment she opened the office door, everyone in the public office area turned to look at her immediately.
Some people were eager to watch more drama unfold before their eyes. Some people sympathized with her. Then again, most of the crowd was merely curious about what was going on.
There were even rumors about her flying around. They said she had been chased out of the company by Jake’s actual fiancée because she had tried to seduce him.
Gwen was supposed to be Jake’s legal wife, yet she ended up being branded as a mistress. That thought made her eyes go red after she stepped into the elevator. Still, she forced herself not to cry.
It wasn’t until she reached the lobby on the first floor that she heard footsteps echoing from behind her.
To her surprise, Cedar passed her an umbrella. “Ms. Lawson, it’s raining right now. If you’re feeling chilly, I can give you my jacket as well.”
It turned out that not everyone in Hall Group was cold–hearted.
When Gwen noticed that Cedar was about to take off his jacket, she quickly stopped him. She suppressed the bitter feeling in her heart before saying, “It’s fine. Thank you, Cedar. Goodbye forever.”
Having noticed how dejected and lost Gwen looked, Cedar parted his lips, yet he didn’t know how to respond to her.
While he deliberated on what to say, he witnessed Gwen leaving Hall Group’s lobby with a steel–like resolve in her eyes. She soon rushed into the heavy downpour.
Only during moments like this could the downpour clear her mind.
After getting into a cab that was heading toward the airport, Gwen stared at the heavy rain outside the window. She could still make out the faint outlines of the city she had lived in over the past few years.
Finally, she couldn’t resist dialing a certain number. The moment the call went through, Gwen used all of her energy to utter a name. Her voice was laced with nothing but exhaustion.

The call was over after a few moments.
Eight hours later, a private jet landed on the tarmac of Bellmont Airport. A tall and well–built man, who was dressed in black, wrapped an arm around Gwen protectively. His bodyguard carried her luggage while escorting the duo into the jet.
It was already late at night when a black Bentley slowly cruised into Hall Manor’s compound.
Jake looked out the window from the backseat. He found himself looking at one particular wing of the manor, had two stories. It was being shrouded by the shrubbery at the moment.
The bedroom light was usually left on, but now, it was completely shrouded in darkness. The lack of lights kept reminding him about Gwen’s departure.
Sienna could feel Jake’s bad mood. She thought her father’s words had pissed Jake off earlier at dinner.

“Jake, I know our families have suffered from major heartbreak because of Emily and Joshua’s tragedy. There’s no need to rush the wedding. You don’t have to take my dad’s words to heart. He’s just anxious because of my pregnancy…
Sienna’s voice succeeded in derailing Jake’s train of thought. He glanced at his sleeve, which was all wrinkled because of Sienna’s grasp.
“It’s wrinkled,” he stated coldly.
Sienna released her grip on Jake’s arm out of instinct. After that, Jake opened the door and got out of the car, leaving Sienna stunned in the car. She could only stare at the man’s receding silhouette.
She couldn’t understand what was going on. Back in the office, Jake had allowed her to sit on his lap. Why was he acting so differently right now?
But Sienna couldn’t be bothered to dwell on that question. She quickly followed Jake out of the car.
