“When will you be back?”
She checked the time, “Probably in a couple of hours.”
“Damien, your wife sprained her ankle. If you two really aren’t in a contractual marriage, come and pick
her up!” Luke’s voice rang out from behind Clarissa.
He and Emily had crept up behind Clarissa, and Emily still lead the lowel wrapped around her, It was as
if she was afrald that people couldn’t see lier body.
“You sprained your ankle?” Damien asked.
“I’m fine. I just twisted it going up the stairs…” Clarissa choked up a little, suddenly feeling aggrieved.
Her own brother was doing his best to humiliateher in front of an outskler. Damien hung up.
There was no way Clarissa would allow Luke to see through her emotions. She wiped her tears away
surreptitiously before turning around to say to him, “Luke’, do you really think I’ll fall for your tricks? I
won’t show you whatever you want to see one will only boost about the things that they’re lacking, and I
have nothing to boast about because I’m not missing anything. You and your girlfriend keep showing off
about your relationship, but I bet it doesn’t really mean anything.”
After that, she went back to her room and continued to pack.
Emily leaned against the door frame and appraised Clarissa. Aside from being you innocent, what else
was special about Clarissa? What exactly did Joseph see in her?
and
Clarissa knew that Emily was watching her, but she continued packing and ignored the latter, She was
almost done when her phone rang again.
Once again, it was Damien.
“Open the door,” he said.
She was wondering what door he was referring to when it suddenly occurred to her. Was lie here?
She limped over to the door hesitantly and opened it, only to see Damien standing there,
“You sprained your ankle?” He looked down at her feet.
Clarissa was a little surprised. ‘He’s probably here to prove to Luke that we’re not in a contractual
marriage.’
She nodded. “It’s nothing serious.”
Damien walked into the apartment and helped her over to the sofa. He squatted down to take a
look at her ankle before saying, “Why didn’t you tell me that you came to get your clothes? Come on,
let’s go home.”
He stood up and naturally listed her into his arms, carrying her downstairs. From the very beginning to
the end, he didn’t spare Luke and Emily a single glance. The apartinent was on the third floor, and
Damien carried Clarissa all the way down. Clarissa’s heart warmed wlien she recalled the time he’d
carried her like this at the hospital. She lightened her aims around his neck and leaned against his
chest.
He glanced at her.
When they got to the main entrance, they happened to run into someone. Damien (rowned briefly, then
continued on his way.
Clarissa saw who it was as well – Joseph. He looked like he was in a rush, and she felt that he was
probably here to see Luke. Why was he all sweaty, though?
When Joseph saw them, he skidded to a stop and turned to watch them. Damien carried Clarissa into
the car. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Joseph staring at them, so he leaned down and pressed
his lips to liers,
Clarissa’s face burned up instantly, and she reached up to wrap her arms around Damien’s neck.
She knew Damien was doing this to show Joseph not to desire what wasn’t his.
Damien got into the car, and then glanced at Joseph again.
“Does it still hurt?” lie asked Clarissa.
“No, not anymore. You don’t need to act like this, really. There’s nothing between us.” She didn’t feel
too comfortable with Damien’s reason for kissing her.
“Did I say anything?” He smiled, but it didn’t reach bis eyes. “Is your brother plotting something again?
Why was he at your apartment?”
“That’s what I’d like to know as well.” She frowned, “Thanks for carlier.”
“What for?”
“Thank you for saving me from humiliation. Otherwise, my brother would’ve been convinced that we’re
in a contractual marriage.” Though Clarissa had sounded firm when she was speaking to Luke, she
hersell knew that she wasn’t consident at all. If Damien hadn’t shown up, she truly had no way to prove
hersell.
Fortunately, Damien had come!
Though he’d kissed her just to show Joseph up. Clarissa was appeased by the fact that he’d helped
her save face. “You’re welcome.” Damien’s tone was, oddly enough, rather sarcastic.
