Chapter 49

Chapter 49

Chapter 49 Our Marriage Is Real Clarissa and Damien lest after breakfast. Damien didn’t even have to

ask Clarissa where they were heading to, for he already knew that Columbia Hospital was the

destination. Clarissa, on the other hand, simply concluded that Damien was powerful enough to know

everything

The moment they reached the parking lot, she wanted to get out of the car immediately.

“Maybe it’ll be better if you stay here,” Clarissa said to Damien. In truth, she herself wasn’t sure what

she was afraid of. “Is there anything in the ward? Something I’m not supposed to see?” Damien was

lighting up a cigarette. with his narrowed eyes and his casual way of speech, he looked no better than

a violent thug.

Still, Clarissa found it attractive,

Staring at him, her cheeks flushed a bright red. “The hospital’s dirty and crowded. It’s not a suitable

place for people like you.” Damien glanced at his watch. “I’ll come to pick you up at four.” “Okay.”

Clarissa let out a sigh of relief. It seemed he wasn’t planning to visit her mother from the very

beginning. Most likely, his presence here was due to Grandpa Lawrence’s insistence.

And so, Clarissa went straight to the neurology department.

The hospital hallway was heavily crowded, and there were video cameras pointing toward a certain

direction.

Clarissa was about to walk past the crowd when she caught sight of a familiar woman clad in a green

dress, a cigarette stuffed between the fingers. NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.

Immediately, Clarissa stopped in her tracks. Madelynn was here!

As it turned out, the latter was in the midst of a filming session.

Clarissa had always seen Madelynn as someone manipulative and arrogant. Thus, she didn’t stay to

watch and made her way to her mother’s ward without wasting a single second

Much to her surprise, Luke and Joseph were there as well. Standing next to them was a woman in her

mid-forties, probably a caregiver.

“Oh! You’re here, Miss Johnson.” The caregiver was quick to give a polite greeting as soon as she saw

Clarissa. “I’ll be your mother’s personal caregiver from now on. My name is Anne Rowe.”

“Was it Dr. Fisher who hired you?” Clarissa asked.

She could already see how professional Anne was with just one glance. Only moments ago, Anne was

tidying the bed. “Weren’t you the one who did that?” Anne asked back, perplexed.

“Huh? No, it’s not me.” “Clarissa, weren’t you the one who requested a caregiver from Dr. l’isher?” Luke

threw Clarissa a suspicious stare. “It was President Lawrence who asked me about it,” Dr. Fisher said

as he entered the room, dispelling all their doubts. “Anne is our best and most expensive caregiver.”

“President Lawrence?” Both Luke and Clarissa gasped simultaneously.

Joseph, on the other hand, looked slightly down.

After all, he wasn’t the one who found the caregiver.

“You guys didn’t know?” Doctor Fisher asked.

Clarissa could feel her heartbeat accelerating.

Dr. Fisher began to explain about the medicine and liow to administer them. After he was finished, he

left.

“Don’t let your guard down when you’re with Damien Lawrence! Who knows what he’s planning to do?

Did he try to threaten you or anything, Clarissa?” Luke asked.

In truth, his words were meant for Joseph. Luke wanted Joseph to know Clarissa and Damien’s

relationship was purely business-like, and that Joseph was free to court Clarissa.

“Stop it.” Clarissa, however, didn’t pay attention to Luke.

Joseph pulled Clarissa’s hand and asked, “A word outside?”

Clarissa soon followed liim out to the hallway.

“It’s been a while, Mr. Moore,” Clarissa said, her tone casual.

“The course has ended, so there’s no need to address me as Mr. Moore anymore.” Joseph, too, spoke

just as casually.

Joseph never had the chance to ask her questions, especially after what happened in the training

class. He later found out from Luke that Clarissa would visit her mother every Saturday. Thus, he

requested to come along with Luke. Were it not for Uiat, Luke wouldn’t even be there.

“Once a teacher, always a teacher. Is everything okay, Mr. Moore?” Clarissa asked.

“If you need financial help, you can come to me. You don’t have to worry about returning the money

first. You’ll earn more when you’ve acquired your license. There’s no need to get into a contract

marriage with Damien Lawrence,” Joseph explained through clenched teeth.

As soon as Clarissa heard the words “contract marriage”, a frown graced her lips.

She quickly realized that Luke was, yet again, trying to be a matchmaker again. Since the latter

couldn’t get any benefits from Damien, he switched his target from Damien to Joseph. Most likely, Luke

had been telling Joseph that Clarissa’s marriage with Damien wasn’t

something to be concerned with. Clarissa refused to be involved in a love triangle, especially when she

was still married with a husband “Mr. Moore, the relationship between Damien and me isn’t like what

you think. Our marriage is real.” Clarissa flashed him a small smile. Joseph, however, frowned.

Instinctively, he held her hands. (Clarissa… “Mr. Moore, I’m married.”

Having said that, Clarissa turned around resolutely and walked into the ward. Grandpa Lawrence would

hear about the rumors concerning her and Damien’s “fake marriage” sooner or later, so it would be

better for her to explain everything now rather than wait for matters to escalate into something worse.

After all, it was a small world.
