Chapter 26

Chapter 26 How Can I Earn More Money? On Monday at four o’clock in the morning, Clarissa was

already sitting on a train. She traveled for two hours and took another three buses to head up the

winding mountain road. Finally, she reached her destination. In total, it took six hours.

When she arrived at Sunshine Elementary School where Zach used to teach, she started puking.

Headmaster Lewis was kind and polite. According to him, Zach was a very sincere person. Others

would only volunteer to create a good image for themselves. On the other hand, Zach genuinely cared

for the students. Headmaster Lewis passed Zach’s diary to Clarissa. There was a picture of Zach with

his students surrounding him inside. He had a red scarf on and looked really handsome. Clarissa’s

tears fell uncontrollably after seeing the picture. She felt sorry for Zach.

Clarissa walked around the school with Headmaster Lewis. Then, she glanced at her watch. It was

almost noon. In about three hours, she had to go to Dainien’s grandfather’s house.

There was a car parked by the roadside. The driver was a young man. It appeared that he was waiting

for the bus. He had a hot temper and was kicking the car’s wheel in an annoyed manner.

Clarissa went up and asked, “Do you need help?”

The man was overjoyed to see her.

“My car ran out of gas. There aren’t any shops or towns around here. This place is big and there’s no

signal on my phone.” Clarissa recalled there was a storeroom in the school. There were a few

containers of gas inside. Headmaster Lewis said it would be used on heating stoves during winter. That

way, students could stay warm. “From here, go straight and turn left. You’ll see a huge locust tree. Next

to it is Sunshine Elementary School. You can find gas there.”

Clarissa said while pointing to the front.

The man looked confused, so she sighed and added, “Let’s go. I’ll bring you there.”

With that being said, the man locked his car and followed Clarissa to Sunshine Elementary School

They talked along the way. Coincidentally, the man was also from Genovia. Apparently, he was an

employee of a small company and was there on a business trip. He thought there would be a gas

station not too far away, but he was wrong and ran out of juice. If it were not for Clarissa, he would

have to spend the night on the mountain.

Since both of them were from Genovia and happened to meet in a secluded town, they felt like old

friends running into each other in a foreign place. Just like that, the two of them exchanged their

contacts.

The man’s name was Landon Davis.

With the help of Headmaster Lewis, Landon’s car was rcfueled.

Landon wils grateful to Clarissa and offered to send hier to Eastfield’s train station, which she

accepted.

Clarissa hurriedly boarded the train. After settling down, she look out her phone. Damien had called her

over ten times. She did not hear her phone ring at all. It was probably because there was no signal.

There was also a message with only three words.

Stranger: Where are you?)

Clarissa immediately replied.

( There was no signal carlier. I just saw your message.)

Instead of texting, Damien called her and said coldly, “You’ve used my name to take a day’s leave,

right? Where did you go?”

Clarissa could tell that he was surpassing his anger over the phone. ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .

“I thought we were only going to fetch your grandfather at 3.00 pm Why did you call me in the

morning?” Clarissa was insightful. She quickly changed the topic. Damien asked again, “Where did you

go?” He did not fall for it. Clarissa thought, ‘I stemnly told him not to date two people at the same time

just a few days ago, but now I’m getting my ex-boyfriend’s diary.’ If she told the truth, she was asking

for trouble. Therefore, she said, “I was angry because Howard didn’t include me in the ‘Stars of New

East’, so ! went shopping the entire morning.”

Damien knew Clarissa was unhappy with that incident.

He was partly responsible for that matter. After all, at that time, he was furious.

So, he stopped questioning her. His tone slightly softened as he said, “Initially, I planned to go to my

grandpa’s house in the evening and return the next morning. However, there’s a last-minute meeting

tomorrow. I’ve decided to go in the morning and return in the evening. I’m already on the way. You don’t

have to go to Florin. I’ll send you an address. Go to the villa first and wait for my grandpa to come.”

“Okay.”

Clarissa thought, ‘A sickly old man living alone in Florin is truly worrisome. I understand why he would

want his grandpa to move in with him, but does that mean I have to do the same for the time being?’

Everything depended on Damien’s arrangements. Clarissa did not obsess over that matter for too long.

She started reading Zach’s diary. The past flashed across her mind, such as the time Zach and her first

met, dated, and his days volunteering in the school. Clarissa’s tears fell on the diary. In Zach’s diary, he

often mentioned how the Eastfield children were disconnected from the

outside world. His biggest wish was to buy a computer for each child in Sunshine Elementary School.

That would require thousands of dollars. He did not have that much money.

Clarissa clenched her fists tightly. She had to fulfill Zach’s wish.

She calculated the money she had. After signing the agreement, Damien gave her two hundred

thousand dollars. After that, she got about a hundred thousand dollars for her performance at his

grandfather’s house. Roughly, she had accumulated about three hundred thousand dollars. Most of the

money was used to pay her mother’s hospital bills. Additionally, she needed to put aside some money

so Doctor Fisher could hire a caregiver. Clarissa thought, ‘How can I earn more money?’
